Fighting some boredom, making a random, thread, list a single favorite, and a single most disliked (can be series or single title, your choice). And by play I mean invested like 1 hour at least lol, because I know some people pick up a game and are like eww a JPRG and throw it away lol. Can give quick explanation if you want.

Favorite:
Xenosaga -this was my gut instinct when I posted, this, I tossed around a couple other JPRGs, dotHack, Chronotrigger, and Dark Cloud 2...but I went with Xenosaga mostly because its got the unique nature of a game like dotHack, coupled with a deep, albeit confusing story, and good storytelling/cinematics

Worst/Most Disliked:
Unlimited Saga -was a close call between this, Final Fantasy XIII, and Kingdom Hearts (if you consider it a JPRG), although unlimited saga, which despite its unique gameplay and large character cast, suffered from extremely weak story, puzzleboard gameplay, broken combat and overall poor execution

Only two I've played are FF13 and FF3 (the original three, not six). I loooooove 13, and I do like 3, though I'm not a fan of random encounters.

Favorite: FFX.
Had an epic story and had true emotion in all the characters. so far my favorite game of all time. FFX remake is a day one buy for me.

Least: FFVII
never got what the fuss was about and hated it to no end. I hope SE never remakes this game.and don't me started on those spin-off games.

Hmm I've played lots of them tend to massively prefer them to WRPGs hands down.

The best I'll have to say is Legend of Dragoon. Though heavily dated today for its time it it was something else. In recent Times, I like playing Star Ocean the Last hope alot. Though the last really remarkable title I'ld have to say was Tales of Symphonia, there are a few other good ones for the 360 but not many.

As to the Worst hmm...

Records of Agarest War. It had some length to it, but I never got one fourth of the way into it, the whole Romance sub plots and griding nature of the game just put me off from it never mind all the fanservice in the title. Thankfully it was only 10 bucks, but it went back in a week, just couldn't get into it, hell even mediocre titles like Enchanted Arms was better than that.

Favorite: Legend of Zelda 2 (NES, honestly not sure if this is considered a JRPG or adventure game)

Least: Final Fantasy 1 (only one of the series I've played so far, which was for 8-bit NES)

Favorite: Chrono Cross The game takes significant strides in completely different directions from the original: A complex storyline with 40+ playable characters, a fantastic celtic-influenced soundtrack, and an interesting combat system. Although FF3/6 makes for a very close choice, I have to stick with CC.

Least Favorite: Star Ocean: The Last Hope. Graphically a disaster, storylining disaster, the gameplay's alright. There was no way I'd have the patience to go through the entire thing. A runner up would be blue dragon, if not for this, the weirdest and over-the-top boss song I've ever heard. The first time I heard that scream at the beginning, I laughed out loud. If memory serves me right, the one singing it is Ian Gillian, vocalist for Deep Purple. How the mighty have fallen...

Favorite: Hard to pick, but I'll roll with a three way tie, Xenogears, Final Fantasy VI(3 US), and Chrono Trigger.

Disliked: Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. Ew.

I am no fan of Blue Dragon but that boss theme is still great...

As for me.

Favorites: Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, FFIX, FFVI, FFV and Dragon Quest VIII.

Least Favorites: FFXIII(bad gameplay, bad story, bad everything), FFVIII(if a remake can fix the gameplay a bit it would be fine), FFII(I know it's old but it still sucks...), Blue Dragon(more mad at myself for I had hope for it), Dragon Quest VII.

WUT? -sighs- tsk tsk tsk....

As to Blue Dragon I've seen it listed a couple of times. I haven't seen where its so bad, I mean I don't care to play it, nothing strikes my fancy but my wife seems to enjoy it. I mean its your A-typical JRPG and if your more into WRPG's I guess the dislike would make sense.

Thats more of an opinion than a reason but I've given up on making sense of half of the members here and more find comfort in trolling them or watching them fall into traps they themselves have made.

 Favourite:
Persona 3(I played the Portable version)
This is literally the only JRPG I can tolerate. It kinda reminds me of Pokemon and it's quite addictive. I particularly love the character design and the backstory of each party member(something akin to what Bioware would do). I guess I love this game mostly because it does not include androgynous teenagers, archetypes or nonsensical dialogue and/or plot.

Most Disliked:
Final Fantasy VII
Terrible story, terrible combat system, cliche characters. After about 10 minutes of gameplay I wanted to throw something at the screen.
It's not just this game, I dislike most of the FF. They're all pretty much similar.

Here I was thinking I was the only one doing that...<_<

And to people who say FFVII is bad(and it's not like I even think it's the best or anything) and all Fnal Fantasy games are the same...

Love reading the replies, seeing what everyone likes/dislikes and why.

As for Zelda being included as a JRPG, I can see why it is seen as such, plus I've had people argue it is, and it certainly has a lot of the elements, I just see it as more of the poster-game for action adventure.

As for the FF games, I happened to like both FFVII and FFX :o ...I have played pretty much all the FF games with exception of spinoffs. Still I wouldn't put them in my top favorites, but I did enjoy them.

That video:lol:

Although, you have to admit most JRPGs are the same, gameplay-wise and character-wise(I do not consider Zelda an RPG, it's 3rd person adventure)

Man, I've played A LOT of JRPGs lol so I can't pick just one.

Favorites: Xenogears, Xenosaga III, FF VI, Star Ocean II, Chrono Cross, Legend of Dragoon, Valkyrie Profile II, FF Tactics (Not sure if that counts)

Least:

Xenosaga II - terrible just terrible, that stock, zone combat system was trash. That God for the third game, saved that series for me. This is one of only 2 games EVER I never even finished.

FF XIII - Run down the path cut scene, use these characters, OK times up, use these characters. Don't like these characters, tough luck, you're going to use them until we say you can stop. Run down the path, cut scene. I hated the game, wasn't fun at all. Game was one continuous straight line until for got to Gran Pulse, which by that time I was counting the minutes until it was over.

These were two of four games EVER I couldn't get through a 2nd playthrough of, and that says a lot because I've played a lot of games in my life lol.

Well, after giving it some thought, I felt that I couldn't really compare turn based and action RPGs in an unbiased manner.  They are too different in gameplay mechanics to fairly judge next to one another, like judging an apple versus a grape.

Favorite:
Action RPG:  Tales of Symphonia  -  amazing game, great story with memorable characters. When you boil it all down however, I think I enjoyed the continual torture of my team with Raine's cooking the most.  Anyone with the game who hasn't tried placing her as the party chef for an entire game should do it just for laughs.

Turn Based RPG:  Ogre Battle 64  -  this is a game I spent hundreds of hours on and loved every minute of it in my childhood.  I have yet to pull so much enjoyment from a turn-based game since.  It was perfection turn by turn with an intricate story to boot that relied on some of your own actions to potentially alter certain events.

Hated:
Action RPG:  Dark Cloud  -  this was a buggy game that I finished only to mark off my list. The characters were laughable as was the plot. The subsequent games in the series were incrementally better but this one takes the cake as the worst ever released in my eyes.

Turn Based RPG:  DragonQuest XIII  -  oh my god....please just let that guy DIE!  This was a neverending DBZ episode.  No story could save it when the bad guy constantly comes back saying "I wasn't really at my strongest, but this time I will be....." and repeat that bad plot nonstop.  The fact that it was turn-based only made it more annoying.  There was no strategy in the attacks and thus it felt excessively boring and repetitive.
