Knights in the Nightmare - by far the most interesting game I've played. The gameplay was unique and the story grabbed me the way it was presented. The game really made me think and work for my victories. The art and graphics were amazing. The learning curve was the steepest I've ever encountered, but after getting past that the game was a lot fun. 100 recruitable characters to boot as well.
Disliked:
Wild Arms XF - the most frustrating game I've played. The story was good but the gameplay was absolutely irritating. The designers did not seem to have a grasp on how to balance a turn-based strategy game of this nature at all. The game gives you a lot of classes to choose from with all kinds of abilities, but every chapter if you don't have a specific character with a specific class and a specific ability, you're screwed. On top of that when the game gives you "hints" it practical tells you how to solve the map rather than giving suggestions and allowing the player to solve the map their own way.

Worst: Since I can't say FFX ( I had extreme bias against the game), then FFXIII and Magna Carta 2. Those are the only two that are still fresh in my mind. Magna Carta was the epitome of cliche fest, FFXIII, just everything.. except the graphics and a bit of music I guess. I will try FFXIII-2 (rent) by faith though, Squaresoft/Enix, I have played their games for a while, so I'll at least try FFXIII-2 to see if they really listened to their fans.

Worst: Enchanted Arms. Good god this game is terrible. Also, this might seem odd, but I have never really liked the older Dragon Warrior games. VIII was pretty cool, but I was never really able to get into the ones before that.

Worst: EVERYTHING ELSE. I am NOT kidding I have given JRPGs a try time and time again and I am left scratching my head wondering..... Whats the appeal of these games? FF 13 (i'm not doing the roman number thing) was the worst as it finally opened my eyes that its not my fault. Something gets lost in the translation and there are plenty of great non JRPGs that I don't need to keep giving them tries.
I'll just leave it with not my cup of tea and its cool if its yours.

Suikoden II - Suikoden I and Suikoden V are excellent too, not to mention Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy VI. But Suikoden II beat them all with a wonderful epic story, awesome cast and a superb villain. I'm quite annoyed it's not available on PSN so it could be played on the PSP.
Worst/Most Disliked:
Unlimited Saga - unfortuntely. Didn't get very far at it at all as the gameplay is simply just boring, even though I am interested in the characters and want to see how the story evolves. Absolutely wonderful soundtrack though, love it. It arguably have the best battle song of all time. Another JRPG I dislike is Xenosaga simply because I found the extreme amount of cutscenes to be annoying. When I play a game I want to play a game, not watch a movie. Other japanese games have this problem too, like Metal Gear Solid 2. Hate it. FF10 and FF13 are rather weak games too.

Hard to pick just one favorite but I loved Shadow Hearts: Covenant and Persona 3 & 4. Got a lot of laughs from Tales of the Abyss and Tales of Symphonia. Also Suikoden 1, 2 and 5, Xenogears, Valkyrie Profile 1 & 2, Grandia, FFXII and SMT: Digital Devil Saga 2, oh I almost forgot Kingdom Hearts 1 & 2 (strangely enough, I ended up liking them a lot)
Most disliked...FFXIII - they made it into a dungeoncrawler (boooring), FFVI - never got what the hype was about, highly overrated imo, Magna Carta - just weird, ending especially.

Ah that music when you are warped to the alternate dimension to fight. Also you have my most disliked and favorite RPG in your worst
Although I do agree Xenosaga has a very high proportion of cutscenes, and long cutscenes at that, although I don't think they are anywhere near as frequent as MGS, but its been a while since I've played those. I got pretty far in Unlimited Saga, except I got "stuck" in this one area where I spent an insanely long amount of time, where you fight this dragon, couldn't beat the area and eventually gave up on the game as well. But yes the gameplay was :/

Favorite: Grandia
KenKenpachi already mentioned Legend of Dragoon and if I'm going to have to decide favorite, it has to be by the game I spent the most time on.
No other games has come close. With one 300 hour game and two or three 100+ hours game, no contest. You didn't even need to do any of the side stuff, the story was long enough to drive you over 80 hours, but it didn't feel like it was dragging out. At least not to me.
Also, whenever a temporary party member left, they left behind skill books that you could then use on the permanent characters to give them a skill boost. And the magic system, you gave the characters Mana Eggs and chose an element. There were 4 elements, but then those 4 elements; wind, water, eaerth, and fire; combined to give you 4 more elements: Thunder, Forest, Ice, Lava. Also, the elements translated to learning elemental weapon skills.
Disliked: Final Fantasy VIII
I couldn't think of anything else and I find it ironic that I thought it was going to be great, but I ended up hating it, and I didn't think I'd like FFIX and ended up loving it.

Hmm I've played lots of them tend to massively prefer them to WRPGs hands down.
The best I'll have to say is Legend of Dragoon. Though heavily dated today for its time it it was something else. In recent Times, I like playing Star Ocean the Last hope alot. Though the last really remarkable title I'ld have to say was Tales of Symphonia, there are a few other good ones for the 360 but not many.
I loved Legend of Dragoon, I'm sure Sony could cash in on a sequel still, or perhaps a graphical remake.
What about Tales of Vesperia? Lost Odyssey? Spectral Force 3?
As to the Worst hmm...
Records of Agarest War. It had some length to it, but I never got one fourth of the way into it, the whole Romance sub plots and griding nature of the game just put me off from it never mind all the fanservice in the title. Thankfully it was only 10 bucks, but it went back in a week, just couldn't get into it, hell even mediocre titles like Enchanted Arms was better than that.
I love the fanservice, but to each their own.
As for the game itself, I do agree. I actually finished the first generation, but haven't touched it since. There are definitely more attention grabbing games out there. But I bought the naughty edition so i got the mouse pad.

Worst: FFXIII is the worst I've completed, I had to pretty much force myself through most of the game. FFX-2 was mostly terrible but at least the battle and skill systems were good. Otherwise, Kingdom Hearts I couldn't get into at all.

Favorite : Lost Odyssey - Great story and characters. Killer soundtrack. Incredible atmosphere.
Trash : Final Fantasy XIII - This is the epitomy of the declining JRPG. Pretty colors do not make a great game. Grow up Japan and quit with the stupid characters and outdated gameplay.

First & Last: The Last Remnant
You picked on of the worst possible titles for both, and its more of a JRPG done in Western Style, not a title worth having really.

I've been hoping for that for years, but I doubt it'll ever happen which is a shame.
As to those others, Tales of Vesperia was okay but I didn't like some of the side quest or the final battle, the general end game, etc. I really wished they would make the sequel for Tales of Symphonia out on the other consoles, sucks its only on the Wii. Vesperia really wasn't to the same level as its previous titles in the line, and it just lacked some of the mechanics as well. Overall it just felt half baked to me. Not a bad game but not noteworthy.
Spectral Forces I haven't wanted to shell out for, given its mixed reviews I may try it later when the price is down some more, Lost Odyssey isn't really a game that grabed my attention though having just looked at its reviews I may give it a shot.
As to Agarst I stoped midway into the 2nd, which it seems neither of us came close to the 5th. Also I really didn't care so much about the game to be to buy the naughty edition, or about the items that came with it. I think that the game in general just dragged about to long. And I didn't like changing my teams so often, but ah well.

Funny how both games were made by Mistwalker, well Lost Odyssey was co-developed with feelplus and Blue Dragon was co-developed with Artoon but still.Funkcase wrote...
Lost Odyssey, I love this game. It tells a fantastic story, it's got alot of the JRPG cliches but it's story remains brilliant and emotional.

Best would be tied between Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia. Both are hilarious, but have plenty of emotional, deep moments and a lot of character depth. I particularly liked in LO that they got away from the 'teenage protagonist with anime hair' thing. Kaim felt much more mature. In fact the whole party do, with the exception of the kids, but even then, their grandparents are in the party, making it more unusual. And the protagonist is already married, so the story isn't centred on the development of his angsty romance. I really liked ToV's skits too. It lets you see the character interactions without throwing lots of cutscenes at you. I liked the combat on both, though sometimes LO's felt a bit too easy, and I dislike random encounters. I prefered how it was implemented in ToV and liked being able to change the combat difficulty.
Worst was without a doubt Infinite Discovery. I usually enjoy the English dubs, but that game really should have just stayed in Japanese, if they couldn't be bothered to match the mouths to the speech. Aside from that, the story was only reasonable, the characters had no development, and the romantic subplot was dull. On top of that, the main character was a generic teenage male hero. The combat was also quite bland, due mainly to being forced to play as the aforementioned character. Eternal Sonata wasn't much better, although it was considerably prettier, and the gameplay was fun. The potentially interesting and plot seemed to have been thrown away in favour of a generic Empire vs Rebels story and lovesick tale of two teenagers. It would have been better to focus on FantasyChopin, the parallels between the dream world and his life, the connection between his dead little sister and the main female character, and him coming to terms with imminent death and all that.
Edit: I forgot to add how much I dislike FFX-2. That's probably worse than Infinite Undiscovery. At least it had a passing attempt at making a plot.
