there's one for JRPG's so why not for WRPG's

Favorite: Deus Ex: Human Revolution:
This game revied a dead franshise with he prefect mix of "action" gameplay and what most humans like to call "RPG elements" (aka weapon customization, dialog choices etc)

Hated: The Witcher 2:

The only game I consider worse than FFVII. everything about it was just bad. bad graphics, gameplay, characters, story. I sold that piece of **** after i finished it.

Everything in bold has topped my WTF meter :o

I can understand gameplay, maybe it's consolish UI... but those?!

Bad Gameplay, ok not everybody liked the combat etc. but bad graphics? What? My system at the time had slowdowns in that games, that's how high the visual quality was. Or are you reffering to the aesthetics here(visual style)?
Also, bad characters and story? The voice acting wasn't the best but that didn't lessen the character's personalities
or the plot(which was approved by a est selling fantasy author I might mention)

Loved: New Vegas, Mass Effect, Origins, Deus Ex:HR in that order

Disliked: Dragon Age 2 and Fallout 3 (in comparison to the ones above.)
I honestly haven't played an RPG I hated.

EDIt: Except Fable 3.

Voiced acting was great! Roche and Ioverth probably one of the best two characters in video game history.

Hmm Most liked I'ld have to say Kotor, Fallout NV, and Skyrim. And those that pretty much are set in those molds.

Least liked would have to be hands down a tie between Morrowind, and Two Worlds 2. I mean sure Morrowind migh of had a good story, but that doesn't make up for what I seen as ****ty game mechanics. And Two Worlds two...VA's boring, check, interface that made little sense, check, Wide open world with "Lulz you cross this line thats invisible your ass is grass, check.

It just had so many of the problems of why I'm VERY picky with WRPG's.

First off I would like to say that I don't make a habit of buying crappy games (CURSE YOU DUKE NUKEM FOREVER).

For my favorite RPG, I would have to go to either Mass Effect 2 or Skyrim, mostly because those are the games I probably put the most time ever in playing.

For HATED RPG, I have to good to Fable 3. See I was a fan of Fable 2 and actually enjoy that game's combat system (though lacking) a lot. Fable 3 on the other hand pretty much spits in the face of Fable 2.

Favorite: Fallout 2. The gameplay, the roleplaying and the fact you can do whatever what you want is what I love about it. The humor is nice too.

Hated: DA2. The game is disappointing and it gave me a sour taste.

My guess is Storm Farron is referring to the art direction and color palette rather than the graphics of Witcher 2.

Favorite: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic-brilliant characters, setting, and in many ways I consider it superior to the original Star Wars trilogy in its effort to deliver a narrative.

Most Disappointed: Baldur's Gate 1- probably going to catch flack for this, but playing BG1 after every other Bioware series, most of its innovations were lost on me. I don't think it aged particularly well. Add on top of that a scavenger hunt-esque main storyline, Vancian casting system, and a very bland style of dialogue, this was one of my more disappointing purchases. Thankfully it came cheap.

favourite rpg: Dragon quest 4, the world ends with you. as far as western rpg's though, fable: lost chapters. i know this game has gotten a lot of flack, but theres something strong in its core that most games lack and hide with sequins and razzledazzle.

least favourite rpg: fallout.. :/ theres just something about aimless wandering that i find boring.

Favourite: Skyrim -great game, and despite my love for ME1 and DA:O Skyrim takes the cake, and if we are doing series, Elderscrolls just wins hands down, they are imo the peak of quality WRPGs, and have been for some time (although the style isn't for everyone, the amount of content alone should net them first place)

Detested: This is hard for me since their haven't been many, I did play one ****ty WRPG on the xbox a long time ago, its so bad I can't remember the name. *shrugs*

My mistake, I didn't play DA2 at all, so the trophy goes to Morrowind!

About Might & Magic IX:

Information on Might and Magic IX's was first published on the Norwegian website Gibme.com, and its development was later confirmed at GameSpot by a 3DO representative. Jon Van Caneghem, the series creator, had minimal involvement in the development of Might and Magic IX. In 2004, he stated in an interview that if it were his decision, the game would not have been shipped in its present state.

As a result of its hasty development, a number of potentially serious software bugs were uncovered shortly after the game's release. 3DO ultimately released a single patch (version 1.2) for the game that addressed some, but not all, of these problems. Shortly after the release of the patch, 3DO declared bankruptcy and was dissolved, eliminating the possibility that remaining problems would ever receive an official fix.

Storyline:
The game's main questline takes place a short time following the destruction of the world of Enroth - the location of Might and Magic VI through Might and Magic VIII - as depicted in Heroes of Might and Magic IV, and deals with the attempted invasion of the region of Chedian by the army of the Beldonian warlord Tamur Leng. The player controls a party of raiders from the town of Ravensford, who are shipwrecked on the Isle of Ashes and told of their fate by a hermit, Yrsa the Troll. Joined by another shipwrecked warrior named Forad Darre, they travel to the six clans of Chedian, uniting them against the threat of the Beldonian Horde.
Forad Darre is sent to lead the armies of Chedian against the Beldonian Horde while the party performs a task for Yrsa, but they are slaughtered to the man. The spirit of one of the six slain Jarls, Sven Forkbeard, reveals that Darre is a double-agent working for Leng, and the party is sent to the Otherworld of Axeoth to recover the dead warriors from Skraelos, the god of death. Before doing so, they are sent to the ethereal Dark Passage by the gatekeeper of Hallenhalt, Hanndl, to obtain a Writ of Fate from the Wyrd, Igrid. Returning to Chedian, they find the Beldonian armies occupying the city of Frosgard, and slay Forad Darre. Confronting Tamur Leng, the party learns that Leng possesses a second Writ of Fate, which contradicts the party's destiny.
Returning to Hallenhalt with Tamur Leng, the party speaks with Krohn and Fre, the leaders of the gods, who reveal that the god of chaos - Njam the Meddler - has been orchestrating their destiny from the start. Disposing of the Wyrdes, influencing Leng to send Forad Darre, and taking the forms of Yrsa the Troll and Igrid, the god of chaos plotted an elaborate coup against Krohn, coveting Fre and desiring rulership of the denizens of Axeoth for himself. Krohn sends the party to imprison a pursuing Njam in the Tomb of a Thousand Terrors, and they succeed, encasing the malevolent god in a shell of impenetrable frost. The gods present them their true Writ of Fate, stating that their true destiny all along was to imprison Njam in the Tomb.

Very unappreciated and unfortunate game. I finished it for 6 times and it was enjoyable. It could have been the best RPG game if it has enough budget and time to develop. The Story and locations in the game are quiet fascinating like the classes, magic and inventory.

Favorite: The Witcher 2

After trying Dragon Age and Mass Effect and not getting what I want, The Witcher 2 actually delivers. I wasn't sure about the first game, but after playing it I was sold. The story is what sold me. But The Witcher 2 vastly improved the combat and they improved it even more with updates.

Hated: Oblivion

It was an impulse buy and it showed after a month.

Yeah, I couldn't believe someone not blown away by TW 2's graphics, either.  That game is probably the best I've ever seen.  I think maybe it was a style thing, though I don't know what the problem was there.  Very deep and real feel for TW 2, IMO.

As for the little things, sheaths/scabbards and bow strings were a big plus. :)

Favorite: I guess DAO -- on another day of the week I might say BG2, MotB or even KotOR.

For worst, it's a tie between Morrowind and ToEE. They fail in different ways. Morrowind doesn't try to do anything that I like in RPGs beyond its lore. ToEE tries to do what I like in RPGs, but fails at everything except the combat

ToEE = Temple of Elemental Evil. Supposed to be a classic D&D adventure. It more or less was, if that adventure was being run by a very bad DM.

The game was also buggy as hell as shipped, and needed fan patches to function adequately.

On the plus side, it did D&D 3.5 more or less right. Much better than the NWN games did -- unlike AD&D, D&D 3.5 simply has to be done turn-based unless you want to throw half the rules out.

Favorite would be Mass Effect 2, no question. Love everything about it. If i was asked about a second place, i would get problems. ME1? DAII? Skyrim? Morrowind? Fallout 3? New Vegas? DA: Origins? That would be the current order, but it shifts often.
Hated...hard to say. I hated every minute of Two Worlds and Gothic...but i played none for more than 30 minutes. Sacred sucked, but i didn't play it through either. Of Games that i actually played through, Oblivion and Diablo II are huge disappointments for me, but i don't actually hate them. Neverwinter Nights has the most boring story of all this games, but i like some things about it. Can't say i really hate any RPG i really played. But let's go with Gothic. Trying to hard to appear tough, horrible controls.

I like playing RPGs that have particular 'strengths' vs ones that try and be jack of all trades and masters of none.

For example, I like Planescape for the setting & writing (dialogs/characters/story)

And I like games like ToEE and JA2 for the great combat.

Depending what type of mood I'm in, will dictate what style i go for.

RPG i disliked - Oblivion - Since when is RPGs being able to dress your character and go anywhere you want in some crappy 3D gameworld with sh***y twitch gameplay, and the rest is UP TO YOU ?
