With Kadian being a Major now will dish out orders to Shep . . . ?
Will the story be different because he is a commanding officer now . . .?
Will he let Shep lead and be in command . . .?
Basically will it radically change the way the story is played out with him being ranking officer?

He's a specter isn't he? I thought that was what he has going for him. Besides that, he worked with Shepard. I think he would let Shepard be in command, since we all know what Shepard can do.

I don't think Shep ever got promoted past Lieutenant Commander, so technically even Ashley can refuse to follow his/her orders. That might be a nice setup for some drama or maybe even a Wrexian moment where the VS gets out of line. Should be fun.

No Kaidan will not give Shep orders.

Even though Shep really needs a promotion.

maybe at the beginning of ME3 shepard gets promoted since he was MIA during an alliance/citadel mission?
or you could always argue that shepard is the senior member of the specters so he doesnt answer to anyone but the council.
or even maybe he becomes the commanding officer in the specters?!

Kaidan may technically outrank Shepard by Alliance standards, but Shep need only whip out his balls and the matter of "who outranks who" is immediately settled.

Shep has needed a promotion for some time now.

Trivial matter. I think when it comes to reaper invasions, Shepard is the best person to refer to. Though it would be a funny moment to see any of the virime survivors pull rank.

Also, no "NOT A PROBLEM FOR ME KAIDAN IS DEAD"?
I'm disappointed BSN.

heh, he can try but my Shep won't stand for it, not after that crap he spewed on Horizon...besides he's not a natural leader like Shep is. But it would be interesting to see him try...^^

If the Alliance ranks are similar to what are used today, a Major doesn't outrank a Commander. Shepard is still one rank ahead. Commander = Lieutenant Colonel.

Kaidan outranked Shepard in ME2, IIRC.

Their Alliance ranks don't mean much of anything when all 3 of them will be Spectres in ME3, though. At the end of the day, Ash and Kaidan will both follow Shepard's lead. Probably.

I wouldn't mind if your actions can result in them butting heads with you.

Where did you guys find the rank structure? Commander is a naval rank of O5 (right before Captain) Major is O4 in ground/air forces, right below Lt. Colonel.

edit: typo...

He did? I thought they were the same rank?

Anyway he starts getting smart assed and this'll happen.

their ranks won't matter considering that Shepard is in command of the Normandy and the fight against the reapers. They might outrank him in the Alliance command chain, but that chain of command has only whatever power shepard allows on his ship. They know that He/Her are the commanding officer and will accept their orders.

Mr. Jasonsantanna, you are implying that Shepard ever followed orders in the first place.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. BioWare has never been serious with military protocol or customs. Probably better to think of rank as window dressing with regards to ME3.

Unless Shepard got relieved of his status again, he's still a Spectre. Maybe his seniority in that capacity will supersede Kaidan's Alliance military rank. *shrug*

Yeah, I had the same reaction. However, a naval Commander may outrank a Major IRL, but apparently not in Mass Effect. Major is considered equal to Captain for some reason.

Kaidan/Ash will die in short order. ME1 and ME2 have already set the precedent where 2 Spectres cannot meet without one killing the other.

Saren kills Nihlus
Shepard kills Saren
Shepard kills Tela Vasir
Shepard kills Virmire Survivor.

Problem solved.

Seriously, why were Ashley and Kaiden made specters? The council will give them their own assignments which will mean they need their own ship, yet they are going to be on the normandy.

"Hey Shepard, the council has asked me to locate and neutralise the base of operations of pirate gang hiding in the Artemis Tau cluster."

"Nope, we're heading to the Krogan DMZ, Wrex needs our help against the Reapers"

"But Shep, I out rank you."

"Yeah? How about I renegade interrupt you with a punch to the face?"

Isn't Shep a Lt. Commander as well?

Anyway Kaidan's went up in rank to Major in ME3.
