IRL, Commanders outrank Majors.

In Mass Effect, Majors outrank Commanders.

If the Alliance ranks are similar to what are used today, a Major doesn't outrank a Commander. Shepard is still one rank ahead. Commander = Lieutenant Colonel.

I have to find the link but it states that Ash is now Lt.commander . . . Kadian is now Major . . . Shep is (XO) Lt. Commander  remember during Tali's LM he states to the Quarian Capt. that he never made it to the rank of capt.
which places him still as a Lt.  . . .the Shep says "technically I'm not even part of the Alliance Navy any more"

but it goes as followed . . Prvt. . .  Corp. . . Sgt. . .Gunnery Sgt. . . .Lt. . . .Lt. commander . . . then Capt.. . .then Major . . .

Shep is not a Commander like James Bond but a LT. commander . . .next in line to the Capt. as far as rank and command on the ship . . .like number #1 was to Capt Picard on Star Trek T.N.G.

Kaidan's military rank will have no effect on your Shep period. Your going to be a Spectre and you have the most intel/experience over anyone else. Even if both of you are Spectre's you have the most experience/intel over Kaidan. So no  it will not have an effect how Shep operates. Normandy has and always will belong to Shepard. I can't say anything else due to spoilers.

They're both Spectres (for some reason) so, no, he won't be able to. Besides, Shepard is pretty independent. I still wish there was a, "No Gods No Masters" route in ME. **** the Alliance, **** the Council, **** Cerberus.

After saving the Milky Way Galaxy from inherent annihilation twice, Commander Shepard should have absolute command over anyone or anything he/she comes in contact with, Tali and Garrus being just as authoritarian.

Kaidan is the same Rank as Anderson. That's dissapinting, he hasn't done anything. He out ranks Shep and he gets Spectre status because, why? Because Shepard has saved his life not once but twice, and he sat on the Normandy while Shepard, Garrus and Wrex saved the galaxy? Oh yeah, and he couldn't figure out how to turn on some guns. Come on.

well im sure kaidan already knows what happens when someone tries to take advantage of shepard. unless he wants an imprint of a pistol across his forehead, best he get the hell out of shep's way. plus shepard is the galaxy's number one weapon against the reapers and he cemented that fact in the second game while kaidan was playing grabass on that human colony

btw, my save has ashley so i wont actually be seeing kaidan, but even if i did, ill go renenage on every conversation we have even if i was on a paragon run. and yes, ill be doing the same with ashley if she tries anything because GO MIRANDA WOO!!

Anderson is an Admiral in ME2 depending on what you did.

Anderson is an Admiral in ME2 depending on what you did. 

Whatever, he was a Captain in ME1. And he's way more of a soldier than Kaidan.

No; Shepard is a Lt. Commander and as of ME2 Kaidan was a Staff Commander (and Major as of ME3).

Considering Shepard was dead for two years, he had work with Shepard when hunting Seran and is on the best Biotic's in the Alliance its no surprise that he gets a promotion

Problem solved. Most of my play-throughs will not have Kaidan in them.
