Taking the Wiki into account, yes but I was focusing on Seleen Moonsong's comment about the Wiki listed rank structure.

What?  The wiki's rank structure is direct from the Codex. Kaidan just plain outranks Shepard. Her comment was based on real world naval and marine/army ranks, which don't apply here.

most people know 'who' is in charge in most group situations, no matter who has the higher rank

perhaps shep will be given a higher rank once the council poops their robes and sees the reapers attacking and shep has been right all along

the galaxy is at war, shep could just go with treason as his reason for blowing off the VS

the VS stated on horizon they would follow you anywhere, they know whats up even if you contend their rank is higher.....

perhaps anderson will put the VS in their place.....

They changed it mainly due to one of the lead female characters in novel series who has the last name Sanders to avoid confusion who we may finally meet in ME3 at least I hope we do.

Where are you getting that from?  I don't think they've ever said why they changed it.

I believe they did at least once in an interview talking about Vega and explaining what his role is. If not what other reason would they have changed it for? Kahlee Sanders is the reason why and it was to avoid the confusion into making people think that Vega is related to Kahlee.

Thank you didymos . . . Ive been try to point that oit that he is out ranked by Kadian . . . The main reason I asked was to know if it would have any effect as far as story , wil there be any conflict between Kadian ,since he out ranks Shep. . . I think Seleen was mistaking. . .

Shepard isn't even in the Alliance anymore, so a promotion is out of the question. He was decomitioned for being MIA. :bandit:

I believe that ME3 will begin on Earth where he is standing trail for blowing up a star system containing 300,000+ Batarians.

He gets re-instated before the game gets off Earth.

He gets re-instated after coming off Earth in the third game?

Unlikely as a Spectre he/she works for the Council, not the Alliance. That would be the same as if the Turians or Asari or Salarians promoted Shep. Shep may be an alliance soldier in his/her heart, but not as a matter of fact.

Same thing can be said about Kaidan.

Since ME2, Shepard has not been apart of the Alliance, so I doubt the V.S. will try to pull rank. THey will probably be helping Shep with intel and operations. I doubt they are there to purposely be a pain in Shep's ass, as some people seem to think.

All of this talk about Kaidan, and all the publicity about both Kaidan and Ashley's ME3 appearances, is making me feel like both of them will be returning in ME3. When I actually play the game and remember one of them is dead I am going to re-experience the sense of loss and cry pitifully. Damn you all.

I really don't see the problem with Kaidan outranking Shepard. Like, so what? Kaidan knows Shepard all too well to get in her way. As long as the trust is there, I'm not sure there's anything to worry about.

(And please don't mention Horizon. That was another story altogether.)

Also, Shepard has been out of Alliance chain of command for a while now. First 2 years spent dead (and not for tax evasion purposes) then the time for ME2 to happen, then finally his court marshal and time spent stripped of his position. I think that's enough time to have some other people rank up past him.

Key thing though is that while Kaiden and Ashley both technically outrank him, they're not really command material going from what we've seen of them in the games. Shepard can really lead and inspire people to follow him. Kaiden and Ashley's ranks are probably given by necessity of their positions in the Alliance, which is as part Council envoy and Spectre. You don't want your politically, and militarily powerful, Spectre agents having to deal with grey areas in the chain of command with lackeys giving them orders. You only want someone who is really in charge able to give them and order and have weight beyond it enough so they might not ignore it due to Spectre duties.

Besides, Shepard's going to be the new Galactic Alliance commander. A veritable five star general, so I think he'll outrank everyone. ;)

Shepard: Kaidan do [insert task]
Kaidan: you do it, that's an order
Shepard: *grumbles then does it*

^VS haters worst nightmare.

For serious though I'm sure neither will step on the others toes. Kaidan and ashley have grown (Ashley is the SAME rank as Shepard) and I'm sure my Shepard's will want to see how they handle combat after 3 years so they'd be willing to take a back seat for once.

Shep is not Alliance. He is a different faction. With their own ranks. Commander just stuck to him

Oh please,  in a war and a military mission, there are often decisions to make, by whom? This sort of thing should always be clear and not be left in the dark, relying solely on the good old friendship with a drink. Really.

Why shep give order? And when they disagree ? this is exactly why things should always be clear in the military regardless of the intimate relationship.

All things considered, with Kaidan being a Spectre (which Shepard may or may not also be in ME3), he's probably not completely bound by any orders given by Shepard regardless of rank.

That said though, we've had soldiers salute with the wrong hand, a not entirely accurate SOS and a couple of other small mistakes from the military viewpoint. Unless this is specifically addressed during the game in some manner (outside of the codex, which I don't put 100% faith in), I'm willing to suspend disbelief and go with the flow... especially since Commander does outrank Major in the real world - least, i think someone said that, i don't know, never been there myself.

Edit: Something else just hit me... I'm not sure exactly how it works, but if becoming a Spectre makes one no longer a member of the Systems Alliance, and Shepard is reinstated to the Systems Alliance (again, not sure how this works exactly)... wouldn't that make Shepard in charge anyway since the SR-2 is now a Systems Alliance ship? I mean, they didn't have to give Shepard the Normandy SR-1 in ME1, it was a decision made since a Spectre needs a ship, right?

Now I'm overthinking this... Image IPB

I took a guess at the fact it was starting on Earth due to the arrival DLC.

No. Shep's reinstated right before he leaves Earth during ME3.

Kaidan's not giving Shep orders. Shep wouldn't give a damn anyway. Giving Shep orders is an exercise in futility unless you have the muscle to back it up (hi there TIM).
