I know Bioware graciously released a high resolution texture pack for Dragon Age 2 PC users on release date.  Is this something we could look forward to for ME3?  I know ME2 could have used one!

It might, or it might not. All I can say is that I didn't hear anything about it.

I don't think Unreal Engine 3 (at least the variant Mass Effect 1/2/3 are running on) can handle whole texture set swaps via mere patches. I just don't see it working.

In an 1,5+GB patch you can change textures, ddls, .exe, etc... everything you need.

What was wrong with the textures in ME2?

If it's not in there by default I would appreciate it. The textures in ME2 would have been adequate if it weren't a cinematic game with close-ups. Up close the textures look horrible and I hope BioWare fixes this mistake.

They're awfully low-res and pixelated. Faces look decent enough but armor is a mess.

Google textures and ME2.  There should be screen shot comparisons.  Armor of companions looked low res and blurry.  The DA2 update made a significant difference for that game.

This thread is dedicated to Texmods that show the textures how they are now and how they could be improved: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/128/index/5314761/1 I especially like this one: imageshack.us/f/830/talicomparison2.jpg/

Unfortunately Texmod isn't entirely stable.

Wow...that one of Tali is incredible! I never used Texmod. Let's hope Bioware makes it unnecessary.

Not a chance. Can't have the PC version looking even more superior.

Another person that Textmod app made a huge difference for was Jack. On default, her tattoos are all blurry and hard to figure out what they are. With the higher resolution, they are clear and I can actually see them.

Both ME games is console ports and using only 256 mb of video memory.
Even MW3 using about 1gb on pc (with aa)
It seems like ME team dont really care about PC version.

I hope there is. For me everything in the presentation of the whole series is near perfect except the horrible looking clothes and armor. For such a character driven game, it's so jarring to have to chat with someone who look like they bought their clothes from a vendor in an NES game.

I bloody hope so. One of the few things that was wrong with ME2 were the textures. It can't be that hard to create high-res texture patch. DA2 did it and so did Crysis 2.

Thanks for the links.  Looks like this idea is popular!

As long as the game wont require more than 1GB DDR5 it's ok for me. And I dont care what console owners think about that. *has to stop here to prevent another console war on bsn*

Someone made a high res. pack for ME2, so I bet someone will make one for ME3 as well. If so, I will get the game for PC as well.

Don't those work with texmod though? That always takes a toll on performance for me. If the devs can figure out how to integrate it into the game it'd be so much better.

Right, this isn't a console bash thread.  I love my PS3 too!

But, since my GPU in my PC cost as much as my PS3, I would like to take advantage of it!!!

The thing is that usually when you play on a console you don't sit as close to the screen. When I play on a PC my monitor is right in front of me and I see every little detail.

Just by tweaking the .ini config your ME2 will look better, I hope the same for ME3. Adding these to your GamerSettings.ini, plus anti-aliasing forced on through control panel makes the game look a lot better.

EnableHighPolyChars=True
StaticDecals=True
DynamicDecals=True
DynamicLights=True
LensFlares=True
FloatingPointRenderTargets=True
SkeletalMeshLODBias=-1
ParticleLODBias=-1
Trilinear=True
MinShadowResolution=64
MaxShadowResolution=2048
ShadowFilterRadius=5
ShadowFilterQualityBias=2
AmbientOcclusion=True
DetailMode=5

:devil:
Except when I plug my PC into my 60" plasma in the theater room!

Skyrim released their texture pack recently, so anyone think Bioware is going to surprise us by releasing a texture pack with ME3?
