Being able to conscript others would be cool, with two limitations:

Nobody in Ferelden knows how to do it until near the end of the game, and given the likelihood that people you conscript will just die right off the bat it should probably not be used on too many prominent folks that aren't slated for death in the first place.  "Well, we tried to conscript Bann Teagan, Arl Eamon, Anora, an entire Daelish tribe, Cairdan, and Lord Harrowmont… but they all died.  Shucks."

I liked Jowan a lot.  If you let him go he won't run away.  He'll stay and come back and offer to help and be punished.  He definitely found his redemption.  Especially if you let him fight the demon.  He won't budge.  He doesn't care that after he saves Conner the most likely outcome is his execution.  He wants to make things right.  He knows he royally screwed up.  He wants to die with honor and not run away in shame.

And honestly, I blame the first enchanter.  Who keeps blood magic books in the open library then punishes people for trying to learn it?  Jowan was just competitive.  He wanted to be the best mage possible.  He didn't use blood magic to hurt anyone.  He just wanted to run away with Lily and use his talents to protect them.  The only real fault I could find with him was that he'll lie to his best friend (you).  Everything else is circumstantial.  He didn't make a deal with a demon to learn blood magic.  He learned it in a book.  The psychotic position everyone takes on blood magic is as prejudiced as the Templar's themselves.  As long as you're "participants" are willing, there's nothing "evil" about blood magic.  I mean honestly.  I wish I could get in a debate with Allistair and Wynne and slap them and say, "blood magic doesn't enslave people, evil mages enslave people.  Oh, and demons.  Get over yourselves you self righteous sycophants."

Heh, there was another Jowan thread about and Daivd G (lead writer) reveald that Jowan was planned to be a full party member at one time but he got bumped down a few pegs. I can't seem to find the thread much less what David had to say.

Oh, god, I'm glad he was cut. My mage was so furious at him for lying to her and to Lily. I wanted to gut the little bastard right then and there in the dungeon, but my mage packed him off to the Circle's tender mercies in the end. There are plenty of interesting, complex characters in DA that are less cowardly and idiotic than Jowan.

If I'm to have a male apostate mage for an NPC companion, I vote for Anierin. Yummy adorable elven healer > whiny blood mage.

Oh God why did he have to be cut?! Should have cut the drunk Dwarf. Or the dog. Well OK not the dog. But just damn. The guy would definitely have been awesome.

So not running away and choosing to face his fate == cowardly? Huh.

Where do you find that out? I always assumed that it was in fact some sort of deal with a demon.

While personally I can't stand Jowan (his whiny little voice makes me want to get my *****slap hand warmed up) I'd like to see a mod that allows you to select any of the origin companions as full time group members, just to mix up party makeups on replays if nothing else.

I didn't like him much at all. In fact, none of the companions you have during the non-dwarf origin stories were very interesting or likeable at all, to me.

The dwarves were a big exception to this, though, as both Leske and Gorim were AWESOME.

Agreed. I really wanted Gorim back in my party. If it were up to me, I'd have created an all-dwarf party of asskickery.

Simply put, they put into the game options to choose to spare his life. For that sake ALONE they should have him as a party member. Hope you guys at Bioware read this. To add that as an option, and not let you actually get him is **#@$%^ RETARDED!!!

That's not why he did it. Don't understand where you're pulling these baseless assumptions from.

Double Agree. Having just beat the Noble option, I want him back.

To kill fools who talk back to their noble, of course.

Talk back? No, talk to me without being addressed by me. There will be many a dead peasant.

I don't know if he would agree to adventure with me after he discovers my Mage was actually working for First Enchanter Irving the whole time. Sucker.

I suppose he gets better during Redcliffe.  Hours alone and starving in the Arl's dungeon while zombies are eating the castle and village will give you a little perspective on how you'd like to die.  No, I'm talking about the origin story.  He lies through his teeth to your PC and Lily about his use of blood magic because he's an irresponsible and cowardly twit, then proceeds to flee and leave both of you to your fate after killing a whole bunch of templars.  Nice guy. <_<

I'm not saying Jowan is an awful person.  He's an idiot with powers too dangerous for him to handle, in the wrong place at the wrong time.  He's certainly not as implicated in his actions as, say, someone like Teryn Loghain or Arl Howe, but at the same time, there need to be consequences for what he's done.

He really irritated me thorughout the mage origin...T__T His whole "plan" to escape the Circle was just plain stupid, because it was inevitable that he would get caught. I ratted him out to Irving the first chance I had. There's no way I was going to get into bad graces with the Circle for that fool..

I'd personally like to recruit Jowan just so I can have a Team of Arcane Warriors

I mean you can have a team of Champions/Berserkers/any of the warrior trees. So why not.

Really would have been interesting to see what they would have done story wise if you recruited Wynne and Jowan.

Or make Avernus recruitable.

On second though Avernus would be way more awesome.  Then again that would break the endgame since he is a Grey Warden.

Yes, yes lets have Jowan as a recruitable NPC so that when I do the Urn quest I can have him beside me while my Mage confronts to a ghost version of Jowan, which would make the whole scene stupid and pointless. Dumb idea.

That quest is odd anyway, since in my Dwarf Commoner storyline the character related to that wasn't even dead yet.
