I just beat ME1 with an adept character and have transfered him to ME2. I played just passed the freedom's Hope with an adept, but I am starting to wonder about making him a sentinel instead. Adept playstyle has changed and I am not enjoying it as much. Mainly that all of my favorite powers can be rendered useless until I punch through some defenses.

The sentinel on the other hand can take down any kind of defence, it still has warp which I like, it has some tech powers that look fun, and I like the armor idea as I always tend to be a bit of a tank, but also like using powers.

Can anyone give me the pros and cons of each class over the other?

You've just listed the Sentinel's - I love the sheer versatility and survivability it has. Definitely prefer playing it over the Adept in 2.

I don't like Sentinel, I have one that has almost finished the game..... plus probably thirty other classes that have.

There is a thread just below started by me, GAME PLAY VIDEOS, that has links to my channel and videos about Adept play, along with infiltrators. Keep at adept until you get the upgrades because they do make a difference.

Adept is all about throwing people around, and protections really don't slow you down much.

They are both massively powerful by mid to late game. The protection thing is overblown. If it bothers you, take a squad that can strip protections quickly with warp, overload, or incinerate. Then follow up with your biotics. Guns are also good against protections.

Adept is the best at crowd control, and husk swarms are laughable. You can just equip the pistol, shoot a husk a couple times, then pull or throw them and they are dead. Do this rapidly and you make short work of a wave. Plus you can throw down singularity at chokes which will trap and kill them.

I like both classes and both could be just a tad frustrating at first, until you get some points into powers and get some upgrades. But I had a blast with my ME2 Adept on Insanity. The Sentinel is a beast with Assault Armor.

If you need help in certain areas, we can provide tips, and you can check out some videos too.

And is this your very first ME2 run? I ask to see if you have unlocked any Bonus Powers yet.

This is an excelent point... the vanilla classes play slightly different.

At any rate, I started both games with soldier.  In fact, when I started my Mass Effect career I figured I would just play soldier, coming from a shooter background, and beat each game and that would be that.  Didn't work out quite like that.

The nice thing about soldier is that it is very straightforward.  You don't have to mess with powers (for the most part) and you can see how the powers work by controlling the squad.  At least that is my take.

I'm sure you could start off with Adept though.  If this is a brand new game then you haven't unlocked Insanity... what difficulty are you trying to play on?  I don't remember there being all that many protections on Veteran.

ME2 doesn't insanity to be unlocked. I did the same as capn233- soldier for first run through to get a handle on game/combat mechanics, moved on from there.

Adept is more frustrating early on imo. Protection-stripping is best done by squad, also adepts are the squishiest of all classes which can be unforgiving early on.

The Sentinel is boringly efficient and powerful. The Adept requires a bit more finesse to get going near the efficiency of a Sentinel. The biggest difference is the Sentinel has a passive defense(Tech Armor) while the Adept's defense comes from crowd control(Singularity).

A big draw of the Sentinel is it rewards you for playing aggressively even more so than the Vanguard. You get 50% shields replenished, AOE 18m stagger/knockdown, and when you refresh your Tech Armor it resets squadmate cooldowns.

Once you get three Tech upgrades you can get those benefits every 6.5s. So you can pretty much run around shooting things up, aoe stunning it, and letting your squad deal with the powers(warp bombs, defense stripping, etc on a very short cooldown).

You can play a more caster approach. Where you use a low cooldown power such as Pull from your squad's arsenal in tandem with your 4s warp cooldown. Pretty much letting you chain warp bombs in a fashion of

Warp/Overload->squad #1 pull->warp
Warp/Overload->squad #2 pull->warp
Rinse and repeat.

Cryo and Throw can be used too, but they're not nearly as efficient as the tactics above from my experience.

i started with Sentinel, and in retrospective i shouldn't have . I think after you've played Soldier and adept , you have more fun as a Sentinel . You have great experience with weapons and squad handling , as well as similar powers .

my 2 cents worth, I played sentinel last, and on insanity you can still get yourself shot to hell.  It is very powerful and and I took the humorous approach for freeze/throwing guys ( never took warp ).  Also, early on the sentinel is hard to get decent powers because of the way you have to spend points on throw to unlock warp, and overload to unlock cryo blast.  It was a fun run and I'd do it again.

Adept - well it has the best physics and there are plenty of videos showing how to do it.  I probably learned more about the game by playing adept because of the coordination of powers.

You really can't go wrong.:wizard:

It doesn't?  Then I guess I wasted my first time through :)

doesn't NEED to be unlocked.

At least I don't remember unlocking it. Was a while ago.

I understood what you wrote.  I don't really remember either, I thought it did.  But I do know that I didn't start on Insanity.  I was just saying I should have started there if it was available... although in reality I probably would have started where I did even if was available first time.

edit: I looked it up, it is unlocked at the beginning.  I don't know why I thought it wasn't.

ME1 needed it to be unlocked by playing through once, so you probably thought it was the same for 2. Perfectly understandable!
