Help with New Installation

I've beaten this game several times on my computer and never had a single issue with the game. I uninstalled the game about a month ago and recently saw that footage of the leaked ME3 beta on youtube, which inspired me to play ME2 again. SO I installed the game onto my computer and loaded the game up, only to have the game crash the EXACT SECOND I loaded the main menu after "pressing any button to continue".
I did a clean uninstallation of the game and installed again, only to receive the exact same error. I frustratedly rinsed and repeated 2 more additional times and had no improvement in my luck.
Dying to play Mass Effect 2 and thinking there was something wrong with my discs, I did something very stupid and spent an extra $20 on Steam to buy the game with a digital download. I spent several hours downloading and installing the game and when I loaded the game again, it did the EXACT SAME THING.
What the HECK is going on here??!! I've never had issues running the game on my computer EVER. So why is it now all of a sudden randomly acting up for no reason whatsoever?
I'm running on an integrated graphics card but the game has worked on this computer with relatively high graphics settings with NO PROBLEM before, so there's absolutely no way that the graphics card is my issue.
Does anybody know WTF is going on here? Thanks!
PS: Also, does anyone know how to get a refund in Steam? if I can figure this out then I'd just much rather use my disks and get my wasted 20 bucks back..

It;s not fully relevant under the circumstances. Read on.shinder wrote...
Hello! So I want to really note heavily here that it wasn't even a month ago that I was playing this game absolutely 100% fine on my computer using an installation that came from my discs.
Because of the minimalist nature of onboard graphics, it is EASY to cause damage to a PC by forcing the system to overstress and overburden itself day after day. A sizable percentage of such systems that spend much time at all gaming will begin to fail because of accumulated damage. I don't actually think it amounts to more than a quarter part of such low quality products begunning to die quite so quickly, maybe a one third part. Yours is probably among them, however.I'm running on an integrated graphics card but the game has worked on this computer

1) Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help. Forums Registration here;

That last item is linked to Pacifien's guide to reporting a problem, which you chose to ignore thus far. Only if that is a desktop do I consider it worth your while to fret any longer about playing this game on that system, because a desktop actually allows for graphics upgrades, easily, and inexpensively.
As always with high intensity 3D animated games, you cannot compare them across boundaries of game engines. ME-2 is running with a modified UT-3 engine, and so is ME-1. You can compare those to each other. When ME-3 arrives, it also has a similar game engine, although it has been updated.

Furthermore, I'm playing on a laptop. I'll post the specs as per the official how to report an issue thread.
Some of the data is missing because I uninstalled the game and am currently re-installing it now, but it could take a while. I will attempt to provide what information I can now and edit my post later with the missing data.
Processor: Intel i5 2.30 Ghz
Physical Memory: 2 GB
Display Adapter: Intel HD Graphics 4000
VRAM: Approximate 1 GB
Sound Adapter: Realtek HD Audio Output
Driver Version: Unsure, but have never had any issues with any other software...
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
DirectX Version: Unsure but I believe I have DX11...although it does not actually run that well on my system.
Details about my problem:
1. My game crashes when I hit any button to continue to the main menu. I get a "Mass Effect 2 has stopped working" error from Windows.
2. Yesterday, after I re-installed the game onto my computer after uninstalling it approximately a month ago.
3. Right before the main menu.
4. Trying to start up the game.
5. I have re-installed today several times. The first time this error happened I played with a modified coalesced.ini file. However, I have used this exact same coalesced.ini file on my previous installation without any problems. I then attempted to re-install and use the default coalesced.ini file and still had no luck in resolving the issue.

There is a post by other users in regards to this, and one of them had some luck using older drivers. Search for posts about game crashing when hit ESC for details.
Note: Seeing as you are running unsupported hardware, the regulars in this forum will likely consider this matter closed, and any other issues you have with the game are up to you to resolve.

I don't understand how a game that ran perfectly fine on this exact same computer only a few short weeks ago now simply refuses to work. If I am truly going to get no help from anyone on these forums then there has to be a way for me to get my money back, since the only reason I bought the game on Steam was because I assumed my discs were faulty and this is obviously not the case...
