Hello i will start soon BG2 again propably with my own group. I want to ask few questions:
A)  Is a big deal to not do the class specific quests, is a big loss of XP or its ok to skip those.

B)  If i choose to do Nalia's Quest to save her castle at the end of the quest we get the castle as our stronghold if we are fighters, if lets say the 1st PC is something else than fighter but one of the others are fighter can that character get the stronghold or just the Leader of the group.

C)  For my group i want 2 range characters  at least one with longbow, the second choice what is?

D)  last 2 questions are for 2 classes which im total noob with those involved: i want a mage/sorcerer for my group, whats the best choice between those two and...Thief: assasin or swashbuckler???if you can give some tips on how to use each kit would be awesome.

Last thing is to ask everyone about how my group wound stand against core or higher difficulty.
my group would be :
Paladin ( Cavalier as a Tank, if better tank would be great to know )
Ranger ( Archer as range )
Ranger or Fighter ( Range class also i believe )
Mage or Sorcerer as caster
Thief ( Assasin or Swashbuckler)
Fighter/Cleric

Thanks.....

A&B; Ok by class specific quests I’m going to assume you mean strongholds so YES they are a big deal (typically lots of experience & some nice items) but they aren’t mandatory and only the main pc i.e. character #1 gets the stronghold unless you have modded your game somehow... note that some strongholds are better than others and IMO the pally is the worst one.

C; Ignoring arrows leaves you with hammer (dwarf only), axe, dagger & crossbow as range weapons in order of best to worst. IMO darts aren’t worth specialising in but they are sometimes useful as a back up weapon.

D;
Paladins make ok tanks but you could also go Ranger/cleric multi, Cleric or Blade... with out giving away spoilers I’ll just say playstyle should decide this one.

Mage is more versatile whilst sorcerer is simpler... you pick.

Thief comes down to do you want to backstab ALL the time? For a support character consider human Swashbuckler dualed to Cleric at level 11... I don’t recommend Fighter/Cleric in a group unless you already have another divine character.

to add to ussnorway's response...

A&B - the stronghold is only for the character you create in the number 1 slot (i.e. top-left) in the multiplayer start-up. This does not necessarily have to be the character that leads the party.

C - while range fighting is great in BG, BG2 favors spellcasting (specficically mage spells) over melee and melee over range fighting. I think just the archer will be fine as a range fighter unless you have hammer or axe as a specialization that you could alternate with melee and range fighting.

D - For a noob I would definitely recommend mage instead of sorcerer. With a sorcerer you have very limited spell selections, but with a mage you can change your selections daily.

All of the theif variations work, but an Assassin might be a little challenging for a noob early in the game without a second thief to open locks and disarm traps. Swashbuckler is like half a thief and half a fighter, but I prefer a F/T multiclass over it. The vanilla thief is probably your best bet.

Being a new player with a full party, you'll probably want a full cleric (as opposed to a F/C) to provide plenty of buffing and healing magic. Party selection is very player and play-style specific, but I would recommend that you leave at least one of the six slots open to roll the various NPCs in. Most players think the interaction with the NPCs and between NPCs is one of the best parts of the game.

So that leaves...
Palladin (Cav or Inquisitor)
Archer
Mage
Thief
Cleric

With the above 5 you could have your Pally and Cleric tank with the Pally using 2 handed swords (without spoiling this is THE choice for palladins) or axes (melee or thrown).

If you are a paladin, then this might become vital at some point. If your paladin falls and loses paladin status (because of your "accidental" evil deeds) this would be the way to restore yourself.

B)  If i choose to do Nalia's Quest to save her castle at the end of the quest...

If you have a certain NPC in your party, then you should do their "class specific" quest. Just saying, before there is a problem.

C)  For my group i want 2 range characters  at least one with longbow, the second choice what is?

Powerwise, rather than longbow, your archer should use short bow. Tuigan Bow +1 is the best bow in the game (unless you like exploiting bugs). This is especially true for the Archer kit.
Your second ranged combattant should be using throwing axes or Sling of Seeking. Both benefit from a high strength score, which makes them a lot more powerful than bows or crossbows. The Sling is a little better since it has a greater reach, isn't as inventory intensive, isn't as heavy and has magical ammunition more easily available in the early game (you will learn that this is important).
If you want a really powerful second ranged fighter, then the powergaming option would be a half-orc Kensai with Throwing Axes though. The game can be finished even if you don't always go with the "best" choice. Style and RP is important too.

assasin or swashbuckler???if you can give some tips on how to use each kit would be awesome.

Uhh.. Assassin is a backstabber, swashbuckler is a straight-up fighter? Most important item for the assassin is boots of speed (for repeated backstabs), most important item for swashbuckler might be Belm or Kundane (for more attacks per round).

Paladin ( Cavalier as a Tank, if better tank would be great to know )

What a good tank is depends on your knowledge of the spell system, your willingness to prebuff and of course, personal style. Better tanks at your stage might be the undead hunter (for the innate immunities) or bettre yet, a dwarven berserker (for good saves and one of the best defensive abilities in the game). Just go with the cavalier though. Game is supposed to be fun. If you are forced into certain things, it's not an RPG anymore.

Related question: is it possible for Mazzy to lose against that half-ogre?

That would be... delightful.

How is that related? Any way, if you don’t stack the olds in her favour (complete the side quest to poison him) yes it is very possible depending on what level she is... if you happen to be a goody two shoes type and don’t want to sully her honour then have her cast 'Haste' & 'Strength' for increased odds (about 70%-30%).

Mazzy : how would you play her?? With a range weapon or as a fighter melee ?

I’m glad you asked... weather you love her or hate her, Mazzy is the quintessential range fighter. She starts with maxed shortbow & her personal sword slows opponents allowing her to keep at range. Some things to keep in mind are;
Mazzy makes an pronounced melee fighter especially if you go get her early (starts with only one point in shortswords) IMO two weapon fighting is the way to go with Mazzy eg. Put your first point into axe then the next 3 into two weapon fighting style.

P.s.
For best results add Valygar because if he takes a big hit then Mazzy will go berserk... & a dual wielding berserker Mazzy has won more than one tough fight for me by the time I get to TOB.

Don’t wait too long or she will waist all her points on shortswords.

I haave a question about character specific quests so I figured I could post it here. Is the companion quests triggered by real time or game time? (That is real time playing or time according to the journal)

AFAIK all the important things are triggered by game time. IIRC there's only one exception, namely T****** showing up (and granting huge party XP) if you have J******* in your party  and have helped her "against" the Harpers.

Location also plays a part like for example entering the inn in the docks with Jaheira in your party... you can just have her stand outside if you don't want to trigger it yet.
