I find it hard to believe anyone could honestly say there are 9 better squadmates than Mordin. I'd personally have a hard time finding 9 better companions throughout all of BioWare's games than Mordin.

Hey I find it hard to believe that a 14 year old got accidentally deported to Columbia but as we know that has happened recently. The world is a funny place.

Actually I don't think its that hard, and there's two ways of doing it. Either you disregard Shepard's class and rank the squadmates based on the effectiveness of their weapon loadouts and abilities, or you do a 6 x 11 matrix (6 classes, 11 squadmates) and then rank them after adding up the numbers on each column.

At the risk of derailing the thread, I did actually do the above at one time (when I was playing ME2 hardcore for a few months), and I found basically 3 tiers of characters, with the middle tier being the largest. Differences within the tiers are small, almost negligible.

I found 3 characters who were consistently better than the others in most situations, and regardless of Shep's class:

1 - Zaeed. Best possible weapon loadout (shared with some others). Good health, abilities can effectively handle all defenses and enemy types except barriers. But his health and firepower makes up for it. Inferno grenade is ace.

2 - Miranda. Has the tools for every situation, and decent firepower thanks to SMG loadout. Squad buff from her Cerberus Tactician/Leader ability is big if you multiply by 3. I think she's rigged by BW to be useful really...

3 - Grunt. Lacks versatility but makes up for it with sheer durability and firepower. Powerful weapon loadout, plus the Claymore, which is awesome when paired with his unique charge ability.

Bottom tier would be Tali and Jacob. Tali because she's just not packing enough punch against non-synthetics, and her weapon loadout encourages suicide. Jacob shares the same pathetic loadout, has slightly better health, but his abilities overall are meh. Especially when you can bring Miranda and get the same things done alot faster.

Mid tier would be the rest, but IMO Garrus, Thane, Kasumi and Legion would be upper mid, and Liara would be bottom.

Its an opinionated piece. Of course people are going to disagree with it. Doesn't make it better or worse.

Personally, I'd of put Ashley and Kaiden in there. Hell, the first 6 squaddies would've been my top 6.

Kasumi, Miranda, Thane, Samara and Liara are by far the best gameplay wise. They're on a whole nother level compared to all the other squadmates.

Everyone else is pretty much the same. I'd argue Tali and Jacob are the weakest. Although Jacob is really good pre-horizon.

I guess that person did not like Zaeed, Jacob or Grunt. I'd have those three with Garrus and Wrex as my personal top 5 (Edit: for combat, that is).

Who cares about their gameplay usefulness? Did really anyone needed them to make it through the combats? Shepard alone is more than enough to kill everything on Insanity. 

Both companions are just lures for the enemy to fire far from Shepard (and if you have Tali and Legion, you have 4 lures instead of 2).

Get Tali off the list (She's good but I'd wouldn't rank her in the top 10), put in VS and Samara, rank Liara lower, rank Mordin higher, make Legion No.1 imo
