http://www.gamesrada...ctually-mature/

Ironically enough, ME (As a series) is the first entry.

Anyway... Sex IS possible to incorporate into video games without devolving into porn. Why the media can't understand this, I'll never know.

And no, nobody bring up bring up the Witcher 2. That was borderline pornography with a butt ugly male lead.

Nice link, I've never played Silent Hill before, but that makes me want to try out SH4 it sounds like my kind of story.

There's one thing that's becoming more associated with games, and that's making games with a cinematic way. If film can portray sex in a real way or even in a fantastical way then games can do it too. Not only can developers portray more adult themes, not just sex but murder, violence or any other dark theme in a very real way. With the market for gaming growing more for adults all the time, you think there would be more of a demand for intelligent, dark and real mature content.

I haven't played it yet, but I heard its coming to the 360, so I'm curious to give it a shot. It can't be that graphic, could it?

What in the unholy hell did I watch?

Was that MTV animation?

That my good lemon was Æon Flux, probably the most avant-garde cartoon in existence, with more sexual themes than I could even hope to imagine. It was a interesting, because the hero (Æon) would die at the end of each mission due to her own incompetence, an incompetence which was almost always tied to one of her seemingly endless sexual proclivities. It was on MTV in 1991, back when they still had interesting things on. Charlize Theron had a movie of it in 2005, but obviously it was severely toned down for major audiences.

*sigh* I miss interesting things like this. And I wished this country wasn't so puritanical about sex.

Yeah, I knew that was Aeon Flux, but I never knew there was a MTV animated TV show about it. All I knew were the comics and the movie. I never read the comics, but the movie was incredibly... average.

I can only assume what they're trying to tell us is "Sex makes you retarded. and will likely kill you in the near future".

Anyway...

You'd think that EA, being the root of all evil that they are, just wouldn't care about what FOX news thinks. Everyone with 1/2 a brain knows FOX news has 0 idea what they're talking about anyway.

ah Memories, I remember watching that when I was 9.  Can say I was not scarred by it & it was one of my favorite shows Because she was so BadAss!  I remember this one bieng my fav Ep. at the time.

You mean Witcher 2?

Let's put it this way...

Remember when FOX news called Mass Effect a "Porn simulator, where the player can engage in any number of sexual acts with any number of women of his choosing"?

Well, it's certainly closer than ME is, but it's not hardcore porn. There's full frontal female nudity (Hell, even THAT can be done in a mature, non pervy fashion, look at Dante's Inferno), but you don't see the penetration.

If I remember, you can also have sex with a succubus and numerous prostitutes in TW2. If anything, it's an STD simulator.

I did play Dante's Inferno, and that scene with satan swinging his giant black junk was more funny than anything else.

MEh, if anything seems to fit the time period I guess. If you're traveling around eleventh century europe, I'm pretty sure you'd pick up a hooker or two eventually. I hope there's more to the game than that though, I thought it was good looking in terms of graphics. But a porn simulator isn't what's needed. Whats needed is good direction in how to portray it the same way its done in a thematic setting.

Because they're afraid for the children. I wouldn't let my child watch porn either until a certain age, mainly because I'm sick of teenage mothers getting television shows. It sickens me. What people don't seem to realize though is that it's not the government's job to limit your child's exposure by outlawing expression in media, It's YOUR job to not be a s**tty parent.

Then they should guard their own children. It is so unbecoming to have one person try to dictate another persons morals when those morals aren't damaging, they simply aren't to that person's liking.

I agree with you about the teen mothers thing, but that's not the result of "sexual liberation" or lack thereof. It has to do with society embracing mediocrity to the point that someone can be famous for doing something everyone can do; not wearing a condom.

Also, children develop sexually at different times, while a sixteen year old may have no innate interest in sex, a five year old might be a lecherous person in the making. While it is the parents responsibility to decide what's too mature for their child, it wont stop them from finding things out when they want to. Not when every six year old can navigate a computer like a programmer would only dream of thirty years ago.

Putting mature themes in video games will neither raise nor quell sexual miscreants of any stripe. The majority of them where going to turn out that way regardless. People's curiosities will lead them to strange places, and if people still ventured to those places when the only form of entertainment were books, then the cause was surely books right?

We must burn the books to protect children from becoming a generation of Libertines!

Thank you for the info.

Now, I suppose by then I may be able to tear myself away from ME3. So that's fairly good timing.

That's perfectly understandable. I wouldn't want my future children getting pregnant at age 14 either, but trying to preach to the entire country that sex is bad is just retarded.

So very true! And the key thing is, is to just teach your kids 'when you feel the time's right' about safe sex! Alot!  People stuck in there old ways just never get around to it, & then There kids Preg, & blame it on the media.. MTV , Games, etc..

Right. That's sort of the underlying point of my post (the previous one). Instead of teaching children that sex is something to be done with responsibility, we tell them it's evil instead. Exposure to forms of it in media should be limited in an effort to prevent a young psyche from formulating incorrect/warped concepts, which is the job of the PARENT, not the government/major religion of the country.

You're preaching to the choir.

Just don't bring up religion again. Without stepping on anyone's toes... Religion is....

I won't even say it for fear of offending people.

I dunno. I haven't seen any movie portray sex in any serious fashion.

Only as the end of a really stupid roadtrip-esque comedy, or as porn, no real middle ground.

I think murder is covered in GTA quite well (I'm talking GTA 4 and it's expansions, not the overly cartoony earlier games), particularly with the core game.

Actually, Red Dead Redemeption may be a better point to make when talking about murder and violence, especially in regards to the main character.

Now that I think about it, RDD is the only game I know of where the main character is presented an opportunity to have sex, but can't do it. John Marston is a loyal married man. Something I'd like to see more of in the future as well.

This, dear Sir, I support with every inch of my body and every ounce of my soul.
So to speak.

Serously - Fox News are crap news. At least they're currently showing true colors of Rep candidates ... Uhh kinda. Nevermind.

Think ME3 should have it. Banshees are naked already, so where's the issue to have naked Ashley, Miranda, Liara - or Vega, Kaidan, Thane ...? Tasteful sex scenes are possible and were done hundreds of times in movies. Why not doing them in ME3? It's no game for kids ...

Tbh: the next dad who runs to Fox and yells "THA IS PORN IN THA GAME" 'cause his 12y old son told him should get in jail for the next five years for excessive stupidity.

no kidding, if you look behind the complaints, you'll notice a bunch of idiot parents giving their 12yr olds M-rated games.

I hope they push the M-rating for me3. it IS shepdawg's last game. might as well pull out all the stops as they say.

True this, so much. There are even websites dedicated to informing parents what's in certain games, recommended ages, etc. Edit: Okay, there used to be. But IGN took it down. Fun fact: Did you know IGN is owned by Fox News? Hmm... :bandit:

The M rating is kind of a joke anymore, IMO. Drop the F bomb, get an M rating.

Guess you're right. I'm not sure if it's related to conservative "ideals" or religious and false morality ... it's just ironic that the guys who had "free love and drugs" in the sixties are now trying to restrict sex in movies and games. The very SAME guys.

Bigotry - a human trait.

Really - a child's brain takes far less damage when watching naked skin than exploded bodies. When I was younger, at the age of 14 or so (I'm 29 now), I had nightmares after watching a war movie ("Stalingrad" or something). I never had any issues with naked skin at that age - and my secret collection of magazines regarding that topic hadn't been too small ...

Funny - we have a similar debate in Germany. Just not about sex - it's the violence that causes issues.
We even had a debate about a "parenting license". Actually, the more I think of it, the more we should introduce it. Sounds cruel, almost "n*zi" - but hey: half of the kids here are spoiled, entirely FUBAR. 'cause their parents never paid attention and let them watching TV.

Don't blame games and TV for spoiled children, dear parents. Blame yourself.

Think I heard that statement once: "A good horror doesn't need splatter."
Horror shouldn't go for gore and violence but for psychological effects. That's a lesson almost every director has to learn tbh. They're going too much for effects ...

I did play Dante's Inferno, and that scene with satan swinging his giant black junk was more funny than anything else.

This reminds me, the protest that a bunch of catholics held outside the EA HQ when Inferno released made me facepalm. It was basically the same as FOX on ME, but instead of calling the game a porn simulator, they called it (And EA) the antichrist and satanic (Even though you destroy Lucifer in the game, so...)
