Are you playing on Nightmare? Because that's the only way I'd ever consider replaying the game. Otherwise it's just... meh.Plaintiff wrote...
I bought all the DLC, though I have yet to play Legacy or MOTA. I'm going to do another playthrough of DA2 for each class.

No. I play it multiple times because I enjoy the game.Archmage Silvery wrote...

I've not bought any DLC for DA2 and have paid little mind to the positive reviews because it seems to me that most of those who purchase the DLC would be fans of DA2 anyway.

Just out of interest, did you also like Origins as much? I have trouble thinking about a DA II replay, but I'm still playing Origins.Plaintiff wrote...

It was ok...but not enough.
Haven't looked at DA2 since.

As far as liking the game goes: Loved DA:O. Loved DA 2. Prefer DA 2 because it's nowhere near as slow as DA:O. As a note, I do prefer hack n' slash to strategy games, yet I never got into Dragon Age because of the combat (especially since I always play on Casual anyways). Only wish DA2 was bigger. Finished the first playthrough in 2 and a half days.
Also, I've got 4000 freebie points for Xmas. I'm ready for the next story dlc any day now, Bioware!

I'd buy the weapons pack if all of them combined were a dollar or two (80 or 160 ms points) like the firepower pack in ME2 was, but for $5 buck even thats too steep even if I can afford it
I think LOTSB was my only exception to story DLC's which I bough full price, whatever full price was at the time

Not really. I like the story well enough, but Origins is a chore to play.Archmage Silvery wrote...

Legacy was fine for me.
Exiled Prince's only flaw was Hawke being unable to give his view on what Kirkwall's problems are.
Kinda regret buying MotA for two reasons:
1) the anti-Qunari ending, just because of how bad it is. Though I should note that I've never once played an anti-Qunari Hawke and only came across the bad ending through an accidental dialogue picking.
2) the corrupted save bug it causes. Needless to say, I was incredibly pissed off at this bug.

That said I'm the sort who does eventually buy these things when they're on sale.

I bought Legacy and MotA this week, after hearing largely positive things about them, and am re-playing the game from scratch, with the intention of playing the DLCs in Act 3 to see how well they fit into the story. Hopefully it will help balance out some of the flaws within DA:2.
Not sure if they 'balance' the flaws, but I for one could begin to see a clear correction of the flaws, or at least the beginnings of such. Makes me excited for what the future might hold!

Excluding the "free" DLC packs that you could get with the Signature Edition/New Game Purchase/Pre-Orders, did you actually buy any DLC packs for Dragon Age II?
I didn't buy any. And I bought everything except the Darkspawn Chronicles and Leliana's Song for Origins. Dragon Age II just wasn't that interesting to me.
Discuss!
Generally, Dragon Age II was a bit of a let down for me.
Retail DA2 drawbacks:
- While Origin's combat was a bit too slow (seriously Two-Handed weapons are not as slow as Origins portrayed them as) - DA2's combat was a bit too fast. I would have preferred a middle ground.
- Exploding enemies over the slightest of attacks.
- As for the armour styles: I understand what they were doing with DA2, in how they wanted characters to stand out more, as opposed to in Origins where almost everyone wore the same armours and nobody really stood out. The problem I have with it is that in trying to create a more "iconic" appearance, for say, Isabella, they basically made her dress kinda ****ty. Now, in terms of how she'd dress in her day-to-day - yeah that suits her just fine. But for her to be going into regular combat wearing that? She has no magic to protect her, so a single arrow in the chest could kill her stone dead. Rogue character or not, she should be wearing some kind of armour even if it's light armour. You can still create an iconic look for a character without having to completely sacrifice armour itself.
- Static environment. Nothing really changed in DA2 despite the game spanning a timeline of almost a decade. Maybe you could encounter an up-and-coming vendor in act 1, who, by act 3, several years later could be a fairly successful merchant? Or encounter some Templar recruits in act 1 who, by act 3 have become full Knights or Knight-Lieutenants or something?
- Lack of choice. In Origins you chose which major questline you wanted to start next, rather than being forced from A to B to C in DA2.
- Recycled areas.
- Enemies jumping down from the sky/in waves.
On the other hand, DA2 DLC offered:
- New stories.
- New enemies.
- New zones.
- No enemies jumping down from the sky.
- Added in some cool features (like the stealth in MotA).
Overall, the retail Dragon Age 2, didn't really live up to Origins for me personally, however the DA2 DLC has made significant improvements and I eagerly await any future DLC for the game.
