OK, so I installed Mass Effect 2 for the first time, and I managed to complete four play throughs without any problems at all. No crashes, no lag, no anything. It worked better than any game, I've ever ran on it before.

But, then one day it decides to start crashing when I press esc, sometimes it works, but then it'll just crash.

I updated my drivers, I'll post my system specs below.

Not sure what you needed, so I removed things, I haven't seen before I left a few extra things.

I've looked around for a fix, but found nothing. I've tried reinstall, I've tried using without any DLC, I've tried using a cracked .exe I've tried almost everything I can think of and nothing seems to work.

Now please understand the game worked fine before, it wasn't until I updated my drivers. I have no idea to what the issue actually is. It's really pissing me off now, 'cause I want to play the games through again before ME3 comes out.

Thanks in advance. :alien:

It really doesn't make any difference. You chose to buy (or build) around a very cheap video system that simply cannot maintain the strain of running games such as this one. There is no support for Intel's tinker toy graphics, sorry. They just haven't got what it takes.  If it's a desktop, and you are amenable to an upgrade to an actual game-playing graphics card, we can discuss that.

Meanwhile, the inadvisability of Intel's offerings had already been discussed a week ago, here:

I'm not using a laptop. I'm on a desktop computer mate.

As I said before, it worked absolute fine for over a year.

Intel graphics are not supported.

Another user had some success using older drivers, but dont expect anything in the way of high quality, or decent frame rates. His posts will either be on this page, or page 2, of this forum.

I have a somewhat unrelated but quite interesting problem in ME1 where the game crashes every time I try to quicksave while I sprint. I don't need anyone to find a solution or anything, I just thought it was curious enough to post that here.

SOLUTION HEREIN (worked for me, anyway)

bogsnot1 and Gorath Alpha, I appreciate your willingness to help, but you are not being helpful by saying that Intel chips are not supported by this game. while that may be true, the fact is, this game works JUST FINE once the proper drivers are installed.

the problem lies in the fact that Intel's driver update in September caused this game to malfunction, so people need to use an older version of the driver.

user bnomad solved this issue. here is a link to his original post. http://social.biowar...25025/1#8920171

this is what he wrote

"I just wanted to post here so that people know I found the solution to this problem.
If your PC is running a Intel HD 3000 graphics driver, when you try to open the menu it will result in a crash and will bring you back to windows. There is however a solution that dose not require you to go out and by a new PC. the solution is to use the older .2361 drivers.
you can download this from
http://www.wikidrive...MA_15.22.1.2361
once you install that the game will function beautifully. you can hit escape all day long and you won't crash to desktop
Thanks again everyone. See you around."

This subject matter is one that can too easily go astray. I have been building my own computers almost as long as I have been enjoying CRPG game playing. That's gettng close to thirty years for both. Personally, I already feel that the type of game I prefer most has been watered down and mixed with lesser types until it's hardly recognizable. I feel "protective" of what little is left of the games I prefer to enjoy.

Intel does not care about me or my games. They don't care about any game players, or they wouldn't have kept making a 1995 level video chip until 2000, and a 1998 level chip until 2005, a 2002 chip until 2008, and now a 2006 level chip since 2009. Bioware designed their game to run a particular way, to look the way they wanted, and to flow as smoothly as they intended. They named the hardware that would do that. They did not name anything from Intel for video as adequate.

They offer no support for Intel's CRAP. Because it is crap. I don't want them to support such terrible hardware. I don't want to encourage anyone anywhere to consider anything that Intel does with video (now) to be acceptable. I suspect that eventualy, Intel will be shoving some 2008 level video out the door, in 2013, perhaps. I consider the idea of arguing in favor of Intel's trash to be ludicrous.

This is not a proper place for people with limited expectations to try to tell me I am wrong. I consider it off topic in a way, because it's more about philosophy than about gaming. The only CORRECT answer will ALWAYS be "get the right card for the job".

It's not a debate. Intel does not support game players. Bioware does not support Intel video. I do not encourage ANYONE anywhere to follow your erronneous ways. There are six to eight lurking readers in forums such as these at any given time who do not write messages for each of the ones who are doing so. I wrote my comments as much for them as for the members whose comments I respond to.

The only CORRECT answer will ALWAYS be "get the right card for the job".

ok your wrong and you know it.
I just wanted to post here so that people know I found the solution to the problem. that dosn't involve buying a new graphics card.

"Beautifully" is an exaggeration, and the reason the game doesn't try to operate with any other Intel video drivers is that the strain of attempting to handle chores so far above the designed capacity are quite likely to damage the system itself as a result.

The fact that some people are too badly brain-washed by the Intel Corporation to be able to shop intelligently for a better system that costs less and meets the minimum requirements is because the Federal Government didn't apply a large enough fine on Intel for its illegal behaviors, not because the minimum requirements are incorrect.
