Huh? I didn't realize people don't give ME3 a chance. Some don't like that there is a MP, some have spoiled themselves reading the beta leak, but overall I thought people are looking forward to ME3. Maybe you have just taken the 'I cancel my preorder' threads too serious?

The next time Bioware releases a game, I might try and do a tally of all 'Canceled' Pre-orders post. It'll be fun to see how many times a given person makes that statement.

Reasons I'm leaning towards not buying the game and/or borrowing a friend's copy.

1. No Steam release. I may still go with a retail version (like I foolishly did with DA2) but the required Origin install is a huge turn-off. I can't support EA acting childish towards the biggest and my preferred digital gaming service.

2. All the ridiculous pre-order shenanigans. I want the in-game items in the Collector's Edition, I don't want the cheap crap that comes with it.

3. It won't be emotionally engaging.

4. Planet scanning. I haven't really been following the game's development but if this is still in, I might either pass on the game or at least wait until that wonderful gentleman gibbed makes an ME3 game save editor. Sure, the Mako wasn't perfect but I'll take barren worlds and wonky controls over a lazy and universally hated mini-game...is it still in? Surely, Bioware isn't that dumb to include it a second time?

Reasons I'm leaning towards getting it...

(This nearly trumps all the negative points above) I love the Mass Effect games, warts and all. I've sunk 100 hours into each game and really want to see the end of the story arc, even if I think the writing in 2 was dreadful. I'm hoping 3 is that perfect marriage of the grand characters and writing of 1 and the much improved combat mechanics and graphics of 2.

Well alright you made your case.  How can I say no to such an eloquent argument?:P

Fine, I was totally gonna give it to you, but now Exia can have it. ^_^

A kind post?, you feeling well Kaiser old boy? :P

Kaiser has a kind soul, but his human shell can be rough around the edges.

I'm nothing if not humanitarian.

Could you please use that humanitarianism to let people look foward to ME3 instead of being a tiny bit like Snape and just being a bit cold, let the sunshine, the sunshine in!

No.

I judge all new entries to a series against the first followed by later entries chronologically. If they diverge too much from the original on key elements I consider them a different series.

All Zelda games have been judged against the first and the improvements and different ways they have told the story. The same has been done for Pokemon and every other series I have had interest in.

I can understand how many people can judge a game by itself but when it labels itself a part of a series my expectations become much more strict. When I enter a restaurant that is part of a franchise I have expectations for atmosphere, service, food, and a few other variables.

And you base that on?

The marketing, which repeatedly informs you about how ME3 will make you cry, numerous employees claiming to have cried or at least be emotionally affected (yes, even Chris Priestly), or Manveer Heir's constant
pantsless partying?

Is it perhaps the press, with IGN, who if they are to be believed, have employees who burst into tears, periodically, every 5 minutes?

In just over eight-weeks, we will see if ME3 creates the same festering and flyrideen cesspool of hate, that DA2 did in March 2011.

DA2 had some very clear warning signs.  ME3 only signals green lights to me.  I would be very surprised if it was received badly.

The only way to be sure that it will be emotionally engaging or not is to actually play the game. Marketing is paid to speak well of their game. They may not be outright lying, but almost everyone sugarcoats their own games in marketing. Everyone. Which is why I never, ever take marketing seriously.

So if, in your opinion (addressing everyone, not just Phaedon), the risk outweighs the reward, then you should obviously not buy ME3.

Haha, the emotionally engaging remark was a joke.  If I never hear that phrase again, I'll be a happy man.  If their definition of that is family drama! sidequests all over the place, I want my games cold and heartless.

Unless youre one of those reactionary types who gets majorly pissed if BW doesnt offer EXACTLY what you wanted in ME3, the game will be a fine purchase.

If the game is what it is in the leaked script, it is already as good as ME2, at least for me, except now theres an actual long main plot, not just glorified side missions galore. Thats all I will say.

It's worth your 60 or 80 bucks easily. Theres horrendous games out there with same price, and youre complaining about this one, it's in the ace league. Come on people, stop worrying so much.

I like it too.  I don't love it though.  I loved DA:O, so I felt I needed to add to the outcry in order to get EA to hear the collective disapproval of the step backward.  The bigger the corporation, the harder you have to push to get them to budge.

Because people like to nit-pick over things they have no control over. I say Bioware should make a game and not pay attention to fans, fanboys, and people who don't like the game.

I hate the gaming industry and its business like tendencies of trying to appease a target market while creativity and artistic vision take a back seat.

This. If what happened to DA series was going to happen to ME it would have happened with the second game with all the changes they made. But unlike DA2 it was a success and the majority liked it. Now when I look at ME3 all I see is an improved ME2.

It seems to me that most people who are pessimistic about ME3 did not like ME2 in the first place. If that's the case then they're right about being pessimistic because there's a good chance they won't like this game either.

That sort of throws out your point, they wouldn't come out and say, "Hey, there's nothing emotional about our games". Of course I assume there will be emtion in ME3, but nothing bioware has done so far has gotten me anywhere close to emtional.

Eh, Bioware already does that with their talk of focus groups and fan feedback.  You're never going to get creatively free games in this day and age unless you go the indie route.  Games cost too much, too many shareholders and corporate suits breathing down the necks of studios.

Then they wouldn't be listening to anyone. Bioware started doing this to attract people who don't like their games.

I am not saying that the marketting is a valid source to convince of the game being emotionally enganging, I am saying that it is an invalid source for the opposite.

And again, pantsless partying. Most emotionally enganging subject I have seen on their tweets thus far.

I think they have been more then 'pushed' enough for that game. Geez it's not like the game had PS1 loading times.

I'm inclined to think it was partly because of the DA2 mess, they delayed ME3.  I have read the leaked script(the old and newer one.) It's not that bad, only  the script's endings leave alot to be desired; I admit that much.

I reserve my judgement until it's released. Sure, it's a title I'm having on my radar. But I certainly won't buy blindly, before I had a good hard look at what they did.

That means, I'm totally open and neither pessimistic nor optimistic.

This, I will be buying the game, but I dont really have any idea of what I want. I will approach the game the same way I do a film, Just sit back and enjoy and then make a judgement at the end

I've been sold on ME3 since I finished ME2 and Lair of the Shadowbroker. Let's see if Bioware can shatter my expectations.
