I agree with most of what this guy said. Being the horrible cynic that I am I find it hard to believe that some DA2 craziness hasn't spewed over.

Personally, I'm looking forward to everything Mass Effect 3 has to offer, the melee combat, the multiplayer, the abilities and any other changes. For me, they are the developers that pulled out Mass Effect and Dragon Age (I loved all of them) and I have faith that what they're doing is for the right reasons.
However, I won't be picking up that C&C that they're making. I'm not that much of a fanboy!

Playing ME1 and ME2, I thought better melee combat would be a nice touch.

Instead, in ME3, we get pathetic "omniblades".  Since when are holograms solid?

The omniblades are not holograms. They've gone over this.

So the holographic interface on the omnitool extends into an omniblade that looks just like it, but the blade isn't holographic?

Right...

There's a codex entry floating about, the blade is not made of light. My only pet peeve is the mass effect field suspension part, but meh.

I'm gonna google it then post it here.

Edit: link here for the entry: social.bioware.com/qnwn.net/forums/forum/1/topic/323/index/8871153/4#8916140

I guess I was a little too optimistic when I thought that BSN would stop whining about the "holographic" blade once the description was out.

Just in case people don't click the link:

Although melee-combat applications for the omni-tool are almost as old as the device itself, the feature was largely unused prior to the Reaper invasion. The need to take on multiple husks in close quarters forced the Alliance to develop ways to enhance the tool’s offensive capability.
The most common melee design is the “omni-blade,” a disposable silicon-carbide weapon flash-forged by the tool’s mini-fabricator. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user’s skin. Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent.
More technically-adept soldiers frequently modify their omni-tools to maximize stopping power through electrical, kinetic, or thermal energy. Some troops integrate the weapon with their kinetic barriers, transforming the omni-tool into a wrist-mounted bludgeon; others fabricate flammable gases, held in place by a mass effect field and ignited upon impact. All prove deadly surprises for opponents who expect a disarmed Alliance warrior.

And if they can make tech mines and drones hover with mass effect fields, I think they can make a small blade.

Oh, part of it is trolling, SWM.

There are people who have been repeatedly told how the omni-blade works, but they keep on at it.

I think there's a small trace of butthurt in there too.

In my experience, advertisements and media hype never really give a complete picture of the game. There's nuance that they just can't capture. So, personally, I'm still just waiting. I hope it will be good, but I don't expect one thing or another.

I probably give it a chance however, I am still a little warey about how accurate the Local Bubble and Gould Belt. (In ME2 the Local Cluster is either the Gould Belt or the Local Bubble, I am not sure which)

At this point...why the **** are people taking this game so seriously. It's like Star wars, yes there is lore - but since it's not real life it's impossible to keep up with everything as much as they try.

Just enjoy the game for what it is. If you want realism, go outside and take a walk. Otherwise, just be excited the game is coming out soon! :D

Not really, because they'd have to still take in the optimits point as well, by denying it they're not being realist because you'd have to judge the good and the bad as equals and not expect anything until you've seen it first.

I'm still on the fence -- will not be pre-ordering. I'll wait until after it's released and then decide. My complete faith and trust in Bioware ended with DA2, so I'm taking a wait and see approach this time. I really hope it's a great game. I thoroughly enjoyed ME1 and, to a slightly lesser extent, ME2. I would really like to see this game be successful and incorporate the best points of the first two.

Does this make me a pessimist??

Darn - I used to be an optimist, but too many years on this earth has changed that I guess.

I'm mostly pessimistic, but I do expect ME3 to be better than ME2 when it comes to the things I'm looking for in ME which to be clear are greater RPG mechanics, consistency, logical atmosphere with obvious suspension of belief, choices that actually matter and a few other bits. ME2 dashed most of that and some things I've heard about ME3 bother me: These game-play modes and chiefly that ME3 will inherit it's style, if you will, from ME2 which failed on the subjects mentioned above. I have little faith that the consistency issues will be addressed and that the choices/consequences/rewards/etc will be as grand as promised, that or they will be relegated to big boom drama special effects adding to the logic and consistency lag.

Things that make me extremely pessimistic revolves primarily around gameplay issues, including too much shooting without optional gameplay variety (exploring), multiplayer, linearity, simplistic button mashing/ holding, gameplay modes (an rpg mode in an rpg = wtf?) and lack of branching story plots (broken promise).

I'm optimistic in regards that ME3's gameplay will be enjoyable.
I'm pessimistic about everything else.

Origin doesn't help.

People think that the small changes being done to Mass Effect 3 are going to ruin it, even accusing it of going 'Gears Of War'.

So far, what we've actually seen is improvement on the gameplay front. They brought back the customization from Mass Effect 1, more powers, more enemies, more guns to shot enemies wtih. Small stuff like being to roll between cover is something that should been there since ME2. Without doubt, game play in Mass Effect 3 will be the best thus far.

When it comes to the story, here is the thing: your leak wasn't the full script. Bioware already told you that, and the leaked script that the Internet got its hands on is most likely never to actually happen in the game.
So far, we haven't seen a drop of the story in the promotional material. You know why? Because Bioware actually listened to us here when most people went on about how Mass Effect 2's trailers gave everything away. Mass Effect 3 promotion is kept strictly gameplay wise, not to appease new players or bring in the shooter hordes, but to preserve the single player experience as much as possible.

Plus: who cares if the Multiplayer doesn't ever work out? Its not being made by the same studio that actually is working on the actual Mass Effect 3. It doesn't some how withdraw quality from the single player experience. Even if they never decided to add multiplayer, you would still get the very same Mass Effect 3.

You can put tweets referencing the story to the script, almost word per word. You're also deluded if you believe that less than 80% of the script is going to be in the game.
