What do you call an RPG without any options?

Mass Effect.

I'm speaking purely from a gameplay of view by the way, not from a "what squad mate do I want to have a fade to black sex scene with?", or "do I want my ME2 Anderson cameo to be with him as councilor or Udina" perspective.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that the previous Mass Effects were popamole corridor shooters with all the sublety of a raging bull in a china shop, and speaking as a gamer who grew up on games which presented a variety of solutions and resolutions that kind of sucks. So will ME3 be more of the same, or will I be able to mess with the enemy in ways other than putting a bullet in them? Even Gears of War series has had optional stealth sections, and even CoD 4 had quite a few stealth sections when you were been hunted or on the assassination mission.

Actually I just remembered a couple of interesting missions of ME2. There was that loyalty mission you did for Garrus where you're stalking that guy he wants to kill.
And there was another bit of sneakery when you were helping Kasumi.

I liked these parts of ME2, hopefully ME3 will include something similar. Would also be pretty cool to have a few gadgets to play with such as land mines, sentries and so on.

An RPG without options? The old FF's up to...FF9 were pretty much that. Linear.

But they were still fun though.

Yes I would like to see more varied gameplay, anything's better than "Oh look another hallway with boxes"

What? Are you asking for more variety in ME3 missions?

Well, if you are, I look forward to variety too.

I don't think Mass Effect will pull of a Deus Ex. It's combat is action all the way through.

Cerberus Brigade, sound off!

Seboist!
Kaiser!
Saphra!

Now go forth, and frequent the Bioware forums even though you hate what the Mass Effect franchise has become! Attempt to suck all of the joy away from the Biodrones, and pester those who just want to enjoy a good video game with your bitterly preserved love for a few choice aspects from ME1.

The brotherhood that you see here is just the calm before the storm baby. Come this March you'll see plenty of people who don't even give a damn about Cerberus being mighty disapointed over the overhyped "choices" and bad fan wanking.

It's going to be DA2 all over again and much like that game some crappy romances aren't going to save it.

I'm over the "choices" thing.  I play Skyrim for choices.  I'm just ready for the most cinematic, character driven game in gaming history and a satisfying conclusion to the Reaper/Shepard story arc.

But I will be interested to see if it does get a DA2 reception (and there needed to be an outcry there; Dragon Age fans/customers deserved more than recycled dungeons, shotty storytelling, watered down customization).  I'd bet you 5 dollars that it gets universal praise though.

Now why would the op make this argument....it's not just because they're disappointed with the games direction. You don't hang around a forum for a game series you no longer like complaining to people who really aren't listening to your arguments anymore...unless....

From vgchartz

Mass Effect 3 (X360)[...] adds 20,000 pre-orders, up from 16,000 last week, for a total of 401,000. It is currently 13,000 pre-orders away from passing Mass Effect 2 (X360). The game is 10 weeks away from launch, March 6, 2012 in the USA.

Ah! I see, still too many people looking forward to the game for some. That makes sense, it's kind of like a person bad mouthing their ex in hopes they're future relationships will fail and te ex will be forced to come crawling back.

What do you call a person who hates a franchise and still buys every single game/DLC just to rage on gaming forums about how much they suck?

I'll make it clear then. Two people are dating, they eventually break up or decide to see other people. However, Person A begins to bad mouth Person B to anyone in ear shot because they don't like the fact that person B seems to be getting on just fine without them. The goal is for Person B to be so lonely that they are forced to come crawling back to Person A, begging for forgiveness.

Does that help?

Eh, cinematic? Those fairly awkward dialogue scenes that were mostly tolerated because they were said to impact the course of the game/series? Most other linear shooters offer a more cinematic experience.

Aside from that, ME isn't any more character driven than any other series, and it doesn't look like it'll be a satisfying conclusion, at least not if you expected something resembling actual choice/consequence or actual roleplaying.

But I will be interested to see if it does get a DA2 reception (and there needed to be an outcry there; Dragon Age fans/customers deserved more than recycled dungeons, shotty storytelling, watered down customization).

Of course, we will get broken promises, shotty storytelling and actually decent gameplay for the genre we're in. That gameplay team doing a good job doesn't mean we don't get to call writers out on their mistakes, though.

I'd bet you 5 dollars that it gets universal praise though.

Lots of people like Justin Bieber as well, and most people prefer McDonalds over a restaurant with actual Michelin stars.

Ah and the other tactic, if something you hate turns out to be populare, dismiss the people who enjoyed it as not being on your level.

They're not 'Real Fans' afterall.

Cinematic doesn't mean it can't be linear. Mass Effect uses classic Hollywood cinematography and editing making it feel cinematic.

There are more people who dislike Bieber and McDonald's than there are people who like them. They do not get universal praise.

Well that didn't take long... >.>

Anyways OP, I won't get your hopes too much...

Bioware seem to be more focusing on different playstyle with different classes in a linear setting (e.g. Engineer hacking turret, Vanguard flanking turret, Soldier just blasting away with big guns at turret etc)

But lets be honest here... Bioware has always sucked on making choices impact gameplay.

The typical Bioware RPG always just end up having a slightly altered cutscene or some extra dialogue and nothing more.

Hence why I'm kinda surprised why people like Kaiser to expect more from Bioware. Did we honestly think that ME3 will have Witcher 2-styled C&C? >.>

Ah yes, the "Justin Bieber / Twilight" fallacy.  The "everybody likes it so it must be bad," reverse bandwagon fallacy.  "Hipster's Delight" as some may call it.

There is a difference here.  Justin Bieber does not receive universal acclaim.  "Universal acclaim" is when both the masses and the elite in the relevant field praise you.  No music elite praise Justin Bieber, just as no elite directors/authors praise the abomination of storytelling that is Twilight.  The Mass Effect series has gotten universal acclaim because it appeals to the masses and to the gaming elite.
