355,000.

That's more than Throne of Bhaal. That's more than Hordes of the Underdark. In fact, I believe 355,000 makes it the biggest selling Expansion pack in Bioware History.

In what world is less than 10% of the base game's sales considered a success?

The world of expansion packs.    Most people don't purchase expansion packs.   And  the   avaliable market is a lot smaller already  due to the   fact that they require the Original.  So basically take the gaming world.  Subtract Everyone who Didn't Buy the Original title.      That narrows things down to about 5 million  (or whatever DA:O's sales were.)    After you do that,   You have to narrow the pool further:   Only  those who bought and   *liked* the parent game  will ever buy  an  expansion pack for it.

After that, you've got  what remains:  a  small fraction of the Original's sales.  That's the pool you have to work with.  And of that pool, only a modest percentage will shell out 30-40 bucks for a non-full title.

I believe 5% is the standard.  And Awakening beat that.

I really want an expansion to continue Hawke's history and, hopefully, polish the issues with DA2 and restore a lot of fan's interest in the series before DA3. And I want to play with my Hawke more time dammit!

Also I would like a more... experimental expansion. One wich would start after returning from the deep roads and detail how did Hawke recover his family state and prosper among the rich and powerfull, I'm thinking something like "The Guild: Renaissance" but bioware-style instead of simulation. We know he has the treasure from the expedition but little more. And maybe then the people known and the choices made in the first act would matter more.

It could also help, at the same time, to deal with the first months of Carver/Bethany in the Templars/Circle, possibly even trying to get them out and eventually accepting the situation. Or helping Hawkes mother to deal with it.

That doesn't mean it was successful though. I would imagine Awakening cost quite a lot more to produce than either ToB or HotU.

On Bioware TV one of the taped cons...I believe it was Fernando Melo who said it did very well.

I'd rather they just focus on DA3.

I hope so, the only thing is that it's almost been a year since the game was released, we would've gotten some news about an expansion already.

^ This.

Too much about the core DA2 experience is a major turn-off to me: the change in art style, the anachronistic UI, the lack of a tactical camera, the silly combat animations (cartwheel in place while moving less than 6 inches to the left? really?), the auto-attack's inability to aquire new targets and to lose targets when they get knocked back, the lifelessness of the game world, the inability to interact with companions....none of these things would be likely to be fixed with an expansion.

I'd like a DA2 expansion pack that is a preview of the changes coming in DA3. I think the most important improvement would real jiggly boobies for character like Isabela. Other things I'd like to see are the unique appearance, variable gear we've heard rumors of.

But mostly the boobies.

Just pull the plug and let this game die. Why would anyone even begin to care about 1-2 extra hours of bad writing and hack & slash linear gameplay with the games that are out and still will be coming?

Diablo 3, Assassin's Creed III, Guild Wars 2, Secret World, Tomb Raider, Bioshock Infinite -- not to mention 2011's backlog. Do people still want to listen to atrocious writing like "I like big boats. I cannot lie" or "Life is a catch. I suggest you catch it while you can" (wtf)?

Why are you talking about Skyrim on the DA2 boards?

1-2 hours of bad writing and hack & slash linear gameplay sounds like every quest in skyrim.

Well you apparently care enough to come on here and post the same diatribes over and over and over again.

Then you haven't played Skyrim.

Just admit it.

If you stick to doing  actual quests in Skyrim then yes it is 1-2 hours of bad/no writing and hack and slash combat. You can feel like that isn't how Skyrim is to be appreciated, but it isn't wrong.

I think I spent 2 hours in 1 quest from the main storyline alone (out of 15 or so quests in the main storyline).

No wonder Awakening sold more than Throne of Bhaal and Hordes of the Underdark. Those two were PC only. Awakening sold on PC, PS3 and Xbox360. I wonder how the sales are if you just compare the PC sales.

Then you haven't done many quests.  Or you're just lying.

There's like 4 different ways to deal with the Civil war *alone*.

I've done plenty of quests and the vast majority have been either fetch this or kill that.
