I wondered if anyone else had views on the change of costume design for the Grey Wardens from Origins to DA2.  In Origins there didn't seem to be a uniform and Grey Wardens used whatever came to hand.   Duncan had been a warden for sometime and his outfit bore no resemblance whatesover to the blue/white stripey get up of DA2.  Alistair had been in the wardens for about six months and he didn't seem to have any sort of uniform.   The prologue shows Grey Wardens of old and again non of them had what appeared to be a uniform.   I must admit when Anders said about "not having to wear the uniform or go to the parties", I thought he was just joking.  Then every Warden we encounter has the uniform.  To be honest I didn't even think the uniform really went with the role - it was too garish - more like something a flashy Orlesian would wear.   If they were going to have any sort of livery, I would have seen it as actually being grey, possibly with a rampant griffon on it, but certainly in muted colours that would not show up too much and make you an easy target.

The other thing that struck me as odd was the Orlesian First Enchanter robes you can acquire as a mage in MoA.   First Enchanter robes are meant to have a black base (although both Orsino's and Irving's seem to have faded in the wash) but are otherwise unadorned.   But these First Enchanter robes have a sunburst design on them and  look almost identical the the robes worn by Elthina, a Grand Cleric, or Mother Petrice and other chantry figures in Kirkwall, together with a ridiculous looking hat that resembles what the Divine is described as wearing in Asunder.    So I was wondering if anyone else found this odd?

For the uniform thing, I think it was to make it known who was a Grey Warden and to give them a bit of legitimacy as an organization. In origins we saw them wear stylized armor with the Griffon symbol a lot, so I think the blue/white bit is just standardized armor they are given and may choose to wear. Plus, you need to remember that in Ferelden the Wardens were kicked out because of Sofia Dryden, so I think Duncan was purposely not wearing Warden armor for that reasons.

That said, the uniforms were ok, they weren't too flashy and they followed a motif that would mark them as an organization. I thought it was a nice touch, honestly.

I kinda liked the uniforms of the Grey Wardens, but i see your points. But as LinksOcarina said, it's probably by choise. Warden Alistair doesn't wear it, Nathaniel neither.
