Hey, I was just playing a summoning druid in Diablo 2 and noticing what a fun and powerful class it is. It's gotten me to thinking about replaying the BG trilogy as a totemic druid, which seems like the closest thing. I love the roleplaying idea, which is that the Spirit Animals protect me from harm and fight for me, and I devote myself to their worship and to the guarding of their worldly counterparts. I back them up with magic when needed, and I can heal my worldly friends using the power of the Spirit Animals. Under the Forgotten Realms pantheon, I suppose I would be a follower of either Lurue or Mielikki. (Which is better for the idea?)
I would lilke some feedback on how well (or badly) the totemist class does in late SoA and in ToB. Can anyone give me some insights? Will I be having fun in ToB, or will I be cowering in a corner, banging my head in frustration and completely dependent upon my party to defend me?
How do totemic druids do in late SoA/ToB?

I’ve played a dozen or so druids through BG and they provide interesting challenges.
IMO Totemic druids are overpowered in bg2 but about right in TOB. If you want a less gimmicky class then take a good look at Avenger... for a spell slinger with solid tank/ dps forms but regardless of class don’t use the SCS improved shapeshifter component without carefully studying the read-me.

When I first experimented with the Level 1 NPC Mod, I made Jaheira a Totemic druid and felt it was OK for BG2 and the first few levels of Watchers Keep, but a handicap in ToB. Maybe it might be an improvement for Cernd, but I think it's a step down for Jaheira.

So do the spirit summonses become completely ineffective against dragons and the more powerful ToB bosses? I guess they do nothing in the battle against Mel.
"Belgarath: summons spirit bear.
Melissan: flicks pinky
spirit bear unsummoned"
Is that about it?

The feeling I came away with was that they were more powerful than lev 3 animal summons and lesser elementals, but weaker than Devas. Maybe the equivalent of an aerial servant? So, no problem for Drac or Abaz or Mel. Of course in BG1 they are Hades on wheels.
