Hello thar, just a quick one. (I have read the notes and stickies, but couldn't pick out if this was explicitly stated).

I've just installed Dragon Age Origins, the .exe version is 1.09353.0 (I'm guessing this is basically 1.0? Since it says I need to update to install some of the DLC).

I'm now looking at the DLC and patches. I see Patch 1.05 but my question is, do I need to install all the prior patches first, or just this one?

I've also ordered Dragon Age: Awakening, so I'm also guessing that I'll need to install that first before the patch yes?

No, just the latest...  Patch 1.05 is cumulative.

Yes.  Awakening actually installs Patch 1.03... so yes, install Awakening, then patch to 1.05.  I strongly suggest *rebooting* your PC after installing Awakening and before running the 1.05 patch.
