I heard that there was a bug with the first tasks related to Harrowmont and Bhelen that would let you get away with doing the 1st task for each one.
Is this true?
If so how (I would like to try it)?
Will it break my save if I do?
Is there a bug with Orzammar that can be used?

If I am thinking correctly, you probably could do both 'First Tasks,' by speaking one of the candidates' representatives, then speaking to the other. However, I do not think you can turn them both in for completion. Doing so would create a stalemate and you won't be able to progress at all.
Here is what the Dragon Age Wiki says:
I advise that no matter what you do, create a save right before you talk to the representatives. That way, if you do cause a stalemate, then you can reload and simply pick a path.
Here is what the Dragon Age Wiki says:
After completing the first task for either Lieutenant, do not also try to get credit from the other. This can result in a stalemate, preventing further progress of the plot. Instead, either offer to betray the original candidate or speak to the chosen candidate directly.

My thanks for the quick reply.
I've tried it and one thing doesn't seem to work. As the Wikia said, if you deliver both notes then you cannot fight in a bout on behalf of Harrowmont and if you fight in even one bout then you can no longer deliver the notes-this combination makes it hard to complete both even if you seek to get credit from only one questgiver.
Has anyone pulled this off?

Not really a bug, but you don't gain much from trying to "play both sides." Lord Dace will give you a discount at Gorim's shop in Denerim, and you can fight in the Grand Proving as Lord Harrowmont's champion. What ultimately decides the matter is which of the rivals you give the crown to, after finding your Paragon in the Deep Roads.
Both candidates send you to destroy Jarvia's Carta, and both send you to find Branka. So there's not much else to see, aside from being able to go to Aeducan Thaig a little early.

Yeah, the desire was just trying to do the 1st mission for each.
Maybe I'd do the 2nd mission working in secret for the one and openly for the other but the main focus was on each 1st mission.
