It's been my experience that the kits really add flavor since there seems to be always some kit I havent tried.
The most fun classes/kits for me are as follows:

Barbarian:Slightly weaker than fighter earlier on since he can't wear the best armor. In TOB however he is straight up better than the Fighter since he's got those resistances to physical attacks and more hitpoints. Becomes unstoppable in TOB. In the Ascension Final Battle I was compareable to Yaga-Shura with all my regeneration and resistances.
Sorceror: Way better than a mage in my opinion. If Baldur's Gate II included more useful spells the Mage would be atleast balanced but the way I see it the Sorceror can get all the necessary spells and cast them more often. This class was lots of fun for me because he always had so many castings of every spell level. This did make some fights in Tactics/SCSII more manageble for me since he did have several castings of 9 lvl abilities while the Mage had only 1 casting.

Swashbuckler: Loses backstab and early on is simply a thief with no backstab multiplier. Mid or late SOA he starts becoming one of the best warriors in your party due to the + to THAC0 and AC he gets every 5th level. With Use any item he can put on the best armor and thus have way better AC than any of the other fighters simply because of his bonuses. This kit was way more fun than I would've imagined since I didnt expect him to become so powerful. He's basically a fighter that levels up fast and can cast spells (through scrolls)and maxes all the thief skills.

Archer: Starts out very strong and keeps it up through all of SOA. This class is lots of fun and is simply overpowered to be honest though most of SOA. In TOB he becomes less fearful since some creatures start being immune to +2 weapons, then +3 weapons and so on. Also the fact that the Archer fires arrows extremely fast with the Tuigan bow (5 attacks per round) becomes less and less powerful since all of the warrior classes get Greater Whirlwind in TOB (and thus the same amount of attacks) in TOB.

What are your favorite kits?:D

Since Sorcerer is not really a kit... Have you tried a Wild Sorcerer yet? I heard it's quite fun.

But if you cast IH on him, it releaves his aura, allowing him to use items/spells/HLAs at will without losing a single attack.

Yeah I knew that about the Sorceror/Barb.
Not really kits, but similar enough to Mage/Fighter so I think of them as kits.

About the Archer, couldn't the same be said of any fighter using belm?
Unless you're talking about the spells that ranger has access to, which almost none help the archer.

But Belm is available as early as Tuigan, so I don't really understand your point.
Either Tuigan's speed was never an advantage, or it still is. Belm doesn't change that suddenly in the end-game.

I'm one of those guys who like to run Hardiness/Armor of Faith (and more defensive buffs) even on characters that are not likely to need them. Sure, it's not going to suddenly increase your lethality. There is other stuff for that. (Called Shot against Ascension Yaga Shura for example, even if you don't get XP for that)

I'm pretty fond of the paladin kits. Heck, guess I'm fond of paladins in general. If that weren't the case, no way I would have taken 6 paladins no-reload from Candlekeep all the way to Melissan -- too bad they failed at the end.

I like defensive classes in general so I played BG1/2/ToB with a Cavalier. In my opinion much more useful than a Inquisitor if you have a party, since there's no risk dispelling the party and the buffs are great, especially Draw Upon Holy Might, Armor of Faith, Holy Smite, Mass Protection from Evil. I used those even in the final battle in ToB.

Monk is great but don't make the mistake of taking him in BG1 (EasyTuTu). In BG2 he is pretty badass even without armor or magic weapons.

Sorcerer will be my mage choice if I ever play as one, since in the end you pick only few good spells and always having something useful to cast is amazing. The worst thing about them is that if you pick a crappy spell you cannot change it ever again, unless you use ShadowKeeper.

Shapeshifter Druids look like fun also but Druids are kinda underpowered in the BG games.
