Unless you think it's good to kill trillions of people.
Depends if they are truly dead. We're still not entirely clear on what the mental state is of all the individuals fused into a reaper.
Well, yes, certainly no one knows how human a Reaper will be that is composed of humans. We don't know if the individuals who are processed into the reaper retain any of their own individuality once integrated into the Reaper or if these individuals are irrevocably changed into something completely different than themselves. So we must first answer the question "are individuals who are processed into Reapers different from their original selves once fully interegrated into a Reaper?" before answering "Are they truly dead?"
I think that if a person is changed completely into something else but is still alive, then that person has died and given birth to something completely different than himself. If this is how the process of making a Reaper truly works, then anyone who is integrated into a Reaper dies.
From what we've seen indocintrinated people begin to share thoughts and memories, and after the initial distress caused by the unexpected changes don't seem unhappy.
They will eventually die however, All people who are indoctrinated eventually lose their higher cognitive functioning and cannot take care of themselves. They will then starve and die.
Also, do not forget the people who are neither integrated into Reapers nor indoctrinated. They will simply be killed by conventional means of warfare.
Human development is already moving towards networking - facebook, wikipedia, even BSN - the barriers that seperate humans are already being eroded, with communal sharing of knowledge and social networking on a scale previously unimagined. Legion seems to indicate that reapers have a similar setup to a Geth platform, with many minds linked creating a single entity. A really intimate social network, where not just words and imagines, but thoughts, concepts and feelings can be transmitted seemlessly
It's not GOOD to force that sort've change upon trillions of people
without their consent, but it may be that being a reaper really isn't a
BAD experience either.
The difference between the Geth and Reapers is that the former are interdependent while each of the latter are independent. How each Reaper's independence affects communication is unknown and in any case, irrelevant. Whether it's a good or bad experience to be a Reaper is independent of the fact that people may have had to die for the Reaper to be created. Anyway, not all people are used to make Reapers and all of them will die because of the Reapers. To know how many people will be used to create a Reaper and how many will be killed through indoctrination, huskification, and conventional warfare depends on how many people are needed to make one Reaper and how many Reapers are going to be made.
if this is true then the final question therefore is: Why do the reapers feel it nessecary to force it upon the races.
Once we know that we can judge whether they're truly a force for good or ill. Harbinger's rants about "ascension" or "humanity's destiny" might not be as hollow as they initially sounded
A lot of people will die if the Reapers accomplish their goals, regardless of the Reaper's reasons. As far as the galaxy is concerned, that makes the Reapers bad.
