There's almost certainly, a huge discrepancy.

You assume that Liara retains a private army and didn't spend 6 months transitioning into something new. It feels contrived because you haven't seen how it actually plays out. It will probably still feel contrived to you even if explained because it's not what you want.
Like breather masks.
If she got rid of it I'd consider her an idiot. And 6 months? What is she gonna make in six months?
Nope it feels contrived because she has the strongest reasons for *not* being on the squad yet she's forced on me. If I had an option to not take her? I wouldn't give a damn. It's because they're forcing her on me with such lousy reasoning that I'm agitated.
Since the VS can be told to GTFO and actually do something on their on apart from Shep? Don't care. (Same with Tali).
I don't give a damn about breathers other then my Shep not being able to use one and pulling a helmet out of his ass.

play the game and you'll see that liara reasons for being on the normandy are pretty good, to the point I would say its the only place she can reasonably be in

No one's played the game.
I doubt her reasoning is gonna be any good to me though. From the leaked script I found it pretty weak. "I'm running away from Cerberus therefore I'm gonna follow you around Shep. Even though you're a higher priorty target for Cerberus and the Reapers than I am and the two of us being in the same location just means they can throw all their forces that they were gonna throw at the two of us at one juicy target instead."
Gee thanks Liara. It's not like Shep had enough enemies to fight.
Her reasons for joining Shep are decent if she thinks the Normandy can protect her from Cerberus and she'll get better intel from following Shep around. Her reasons for being forced to me is where it reaches lousy. (and on that note *gag* Oh yes Liara needs to be protected from Cerberus. ra forbid she go on her own and protect herself).

Indeed. It could turn out even worse then it sounds.
Regardless how much sense the squaddies make is up to invidiual interpretation. I don't feel most of the ME3 squaddies make so much sense over ME2 exclusive characters. That's all.

Everyone is different
Obviously this divides people, and it shouldn't affect the game quality I hope, as it is just the squad after all and if the quality of the voice acting and writing is high whoever is saying it isn't the biggest issue we have to worry about with ME3.
*cough* endings.

Let's be honest here. In the time leading up to Mass Effect 2, which of the revealed squadmates did you actually think you were going to like? Then compare to after you played the game.
There's almost certainly, a huge discrepancy.
Hudson said that in an interview but I am sure everyone is just going to ignore this post.

Considering all the squaddies save 2 are characters we already know I don't see the relevance.

It's relevant because, just because most are people we already know, doesn't mean their handling in 3 will be the same as previous games. You can expect everyone to undergo character change going into 3. No one's the exact same as they were before just like in 2 from 1.
Ex. You may have liked Garrus better in 2 then you did 1. You may have liked Tali better in 1 then 2.
So even if you don't like them now, your opinion of them will almost certainly change when you interact with them in 3.

No it is nonsense. If you didn't particularly like characters in previous games you are not going to like them in the final installment.

True but their personality will hopefully remain similar and not be thrown out the window.
And some people liked Garrus better in 1 and same with Tali. (I preferred ME1 Tali personally).
Not necessarily. Plus people who like them in ME2 could start disliking them (if they change enough that people who didn't like them will start liking them). Plus everyone save 1 of the returning characters have already been seen in multiple games. If you didn't like them from the beginning chances of your starting to like them in ME3 are pretty damn slim.

Well yes, logical Character development would be ideal.
Tali was better in that she wasn't a walking Codex yet her liking Shep was somewhat unsettling.
Depends on why people didn't like them to begin with. Heck, even if a character is disliked it doesn't mean they aren't a good character. If you never liked Garrus or Tali, it'd take some major change. That's different for Ash/Kaidan and Liara at least IMO.

Eh I preferred her in ME1. She didn't bother me as much.
Never said a character being disliked made them bad. I can't stand Jack but she's a good character. All characters aren't gonna be liked by everyone. That's just how it is. Eh. I don't see myself liking Liara. Didn't like her in ME1, couldn't stand her in ME2 and LOTSB, only way I'd like her in ME3 is if she got a personality transplant and went on and did her own thing far far away from my Shep. Same with the VS.

I must be the only one who likes everyone. Even Jacob.
Kaidan at least won't be as bland in ME 1 (You can like someone even if they are bland). Besides, apparently no one is a permanent, so I heard. Whatever that means. And I heard only a few are forced on you.

Nah there are others.
Nope instead he sounds worse (as far as I'm concerned). Thankfully only three of them seem to be forced. Unfortunately for me 2/3rds of them are characters I can't stand. I really wish all returning characters were optional and there two new people that were forced and permanent because at least then I'd have a decent chance of liking them.

Tbh It'd make sense for Shep to reject the Vs but Bioware made Liara, Garrus, and Tali be Shep's best friends.
Can't squadmates die during the story anyway?

Frankly I wish that canon best friend crap die in a damn fire. I shouldn't have to kill characters off to avoid my Shep acting like their his best buds when they're not. Especially since in ME1 Shep can treat them the exact opposite.
They can but Liara's plot shield seems to be holding strong.
