You
must create and log in to your Origin account in order to receive the
Reckoning & Mass Effect 3 items, but you do not need to have the
Origin client/installer. Also, you do not need to play the demo through
Origin, but you will still need to create and log in to your Origin
account to activate the Reckoning & Mass Effect 3 Crossover item
entitlements.

Signing in to your Origin account simply registers
that you’ve unlocked the Reckoning & Mass Effect 3 Crossover items,
then when you get your full copy of Reckoning and Mass Effect 3, log in
again and the items will appear in-game.

Have we had confirmation that saves from Steam will be compatible with either hardcopies or DDL versions of the game?

Where is that from?

I knew Reckoning doesn't require Origin, a developer friend told me as much, so this seems pretty legit...

They said the same damn thing about BF3. But when I inserted DVD 1 the first thing that happend was "the installation of Origin". If I click on the BF3.exe in the folder it first boots up Origin. I had a chat with a EA supporter and they told me that you need to install ME3 via Origin. Meaning ME3 will not boot if Origin is not up and running.
And even so, I would have wanted to use 1 single platform and Valve just beat EA to the punch! They should accept this, instead they choose to mess around with the group that gives them their yearly turnover, margin and salaries. Trust me, you will need origin to boot ME3. They fooled me once with BF3, but not again...ooh no sir, not again!

There's nothing that can deny them having the demos Origin exclusive.

Why would EA admit ME3 using Origin without BioWare confirming it first?

And when did they say BF3 will not require Origin, it didn't even have a demo.

Origin is just like Steam first and foremost piracy protection. Why would they care if someone downloaded a demo for free?

No, they don't have to accept that. What happened to competition?

The only reason I think Origin is good is that it competes directly with Steam. However, the bad thing about it is that is almost exactly like Steam, which is still enough reason for me not to use either.

Steam isn't a "Piracy protection" unless it's a steam works game/VALVe game.

Dude, get your facts straight! Why would EA admit BF3 needs origin without DICE confirming it first? DICE didnt confirm jack ****!

And FYI Battlefield 3 did had a multiplayer beta which was only availble on origin.

How can you call this competion!! This is clearly a monopoly that EA is going for here. Come on guys, open your eyes here please!
If this continues then all other publisher will want their own platform, Half Life 3 will not arrive on Orgin and what group is left outside standing in the rain.....the gamers, thats who!

Again, only when you've bought the game off Steam or if it's a steam works game/VALVe game.

And Valve isn't going for the monopoly? Steamworks is their tool to get that monopoly. And I agree, I don't want a thousand different platforms either. That's why I don't use any of them.

EDIT: you're right, Wardka. I will stop.

I know, but from experience from past threads, one thing leads to another until a wild LOCKDOWN appears. I didn't mean to single anyone out, I just want us to be able to keep voicing our concerns now that this thread has been left open.

How can you talk about Origin without talking about piracy? Origin is set up to protect against piracy but manages to punish the legal customer. It's a major part of the complaint about Origin.

There's no real reason why they shouldn't be. All ME3 needs to do is look at your ME2 save files which are always stored somewhere in the nether regions of  your MyDocuments folder (or whatever the the Vista/Win7 equivalent is).

*facepalm*
You can start by not talking about if and/or how you're going to circumvent the Origin's DRM function. That is in no way necessary for people to talk about Origin. Instead talk about why you feel you're not being treated like a customer. What does Origin do that makes you not want to be forced to use it?

As an aside: talk about how piracy is the lame and rather flimsy excuse for the implementation of DRM seems to be tolerated so far; but frankly why bother with it? That horse is dead. In fact it's sad corpse has long since decomposed and we're now busy beating it's bones into chalk.

Let's get the facts straight: Origin and Steam have NOTHING to do with competition, distribution, DRM or anything like it. The only purpose of both platforms is to suck as much money out of its users through (in)direct advertising. That's all.

I don't have any issue with that, but only if it's optional. Unfortunately it isn't so I don't use them.

I'm interested in (certain) games, which I happily pay for. But when I go out to buy a new shirt, I want a shirt, not a baseball cap, a sweater, or a pair of slippers. Is that too much to ask for? In the gaming industry it, unfortunately, is.
