And yes, like the OP said, make a stickie about this subject answering the simple question of "Is Origin Required to play ME3?" This has gotten out of hand that the customers don't know with less than 2 months left until the release. It's inexcusable really.

DATELINE: BIOWARE

Newsflash for the people who still don't understand.  The reason why no solid word has been put out yet is because they don't want people who are on the fence already to cancel their preorder's, they will put off confirming this until the last possible minute. Then they will confirm it and hope the close proximity to release date will prevent as many cancellations as announcing 3 months ago would have.

Of course I know that is the reason the question hasn't been answered. It's still a bad way to treat your customers and absolutely inexcusable.

I don't disagree with you on that.  I have said multiple times to my friends and I intend to follow through on it, that after ME3 I won't be buying from Bioware again.  I know I am not the only one who feels like this path on how customers are treated is reaching a breaking point.

As it is, Mass Effect 3 is the last game I'm buying, period. There's no other good games left considering everything else is a rehash, or a $70 paperweight (i.e. 4-hour single-player games). The only games I'm remotely interested in are Aliens: Colonial Marines and BioShock Infinite, and that's it (Might make an exception on the Respawn Entertainment studios's first game, since they're the original devs of the entire Call of Duty series)

The lack of answers makes me wonder if there's some internal dispute going on between the ME guys and the EA higher-ups about tying ME3 to Origin.

Perhaps. I remember when I tweeted Jesse Huston about Origin and he seemed very surprised why it was such a deal breaker for me. So I tweeted him the article about the entire EULA data-mining thing. He didn't respond and there could many reasons to that but I sure wonder if ME producers, along with BW doctors may have gone "wait a sec, is this true EA higher-ups?". Also, it was around the time the entire BF3 Origin drama in Germany was happening.

Never got into the series, and my 2005 PC is a P.O.S. to run the games, even if I were to use Steam. I don't have the extra cash to shell out for the upgrades, and of course, there's the frequent inconvenience called DRM.

He had to close about five threads about Origin and piracy this week so I think he got the message. I will buy Mass Effect 3 no matter what but if Origin is a requirement then it will be my last Origin game. I played BF3 and Origin adds nothing to the experience. It's a waste of HDD space.

They haven't told you guys because they know it is required. At least, that's what the realist in me is trying to tell me. At this rate this probably won't be disclosed until a week prior to launch, in order to reap on the preorders.

If this is true (that there is an internal dispute) - and that certainly is possible - then there is some hope after all. Otherwise, I would be very surprised  if it were announced that Origin isn't required. Honestly, I am not expecting to play ME3 when it's released or even a long time after that.

Good one!

He's not interested in Diablo III?  Dishonored?  Max Payne 3?  Tons of good games coming out this year.

How are you planning on playing ME3?

If you have a console, I would very much recommend buying the Orange Box. It can be found very cheaply now, and its worth it for Portal alone. Half-life 2 and its expansions are an added bonus, and have aged far better than most games.

Laugh all you want, but it will come out one day. It has to. It just, has to. :(

I'd forgotten about Dishonoured. It looks pretty good, I'm eager to see more of it.

This is why I haven't pre-ordered the game as of yet.  All this ducking, dodging and stalling is making me more unlikely to buy the game, or any future games for that matter.

360 version. Bought ME1 on Launch Day, and the same for ME2.  Been hearing horror stories about framerate issues for the Orange Box.

Not sure about that, to be honest. I played it and thought it was smooth ans seamless. There is the occasional freezing with Half-Life 2, though. But that's about it.

Not a fan of fantasy games, and hate dungeon crawlers. If I got bored with freaking Borderlands (an overglorified dungeon crawler in a shooter format), how would I exactly like Diablo 3?

Dishonored?

Not interested.

Max Payne 3?

Oops, shoe-horned multiplayer, and as it was, I felt Max Payne 2 was an un-necessary sequel. Sure, game might be fun, but I honestly can't see any more exploits with the title character.

Tons of good games coming out this year.

Very subjective, and I'm not a PC gamer.

I'm an Xbox player too and I've never had any issues with the Orange Box. There is a lot of loading in Half-life 2, but I'v never had any issues with freezing or framerates. If you can find it cheap you should give it a go. Its worth if for Portal alone.

^ this is the wrong way to go about things.  If you object to Origin so strongly then you have to put your money where your mouth is.  It is no good going "oh after this game blah de blah", if you really want to do something about Origin you have to make some small sacrifices and one of those is you don't get to play Mass Effect 3.  You see this is why EA is carrying on with Origin, they know if they sit it out they can ride through this and eventually people will accept it.

The same goes for those going to "circumvent" this DRM again you are supporting Origin and sending the wrong message to EA.  Not to mention the fact that it will not take EA long to figure out how to make Origin refuse to work if you have taken steps to neuter it.

In short if you are planning to play Mass Effect 3 (no matter how you do it) then you really shouldn't be complaining about Origin.  Your continued support of the Mass Effect franchise and of any EA product is reinforcing EA's notions that Origin is the right way to go.

I'm not as strongly opposed to Origin as others. I got a physical copy of Dragon Age Origins and registered it to Origin for a digital download anyway (since it doesn't require Origin to run). There are some games that are good enough for me to endure Origin and Mass Effect 3 is one of those, albeit barely. I could say I'm not getting ME3 because of Origin but that would be dishonest.

That said, I sent a complaint to EA where I lied my ass off. I used the good old "I'll have to cancel my CE pre-order" line.

Half Life 2 is a 2004 game. It runs smoothly at max settings with an old Geforce 6600 (2004). Maybe just with the HDR off (when I played it in my Gf6600 HDR functions weren't implemented). I even made it run with my very-old TNT2 Ultra (1999), not in a smooth way, but the game worked.

I highly reccomend playing it on PC, better experience. And in case someone has at least a Gf8600 or 9600, the Cinematic Mod makes it even better.

Anyway, Half Life 2 (+Episodes) is one of the best games ever made (IMO best FPS ever), and Portal is just awesome.

ME1 and ME2 did online authentication without the need of extra software. I'd be disappointed if this is the route they're taking but it's acceptable.

Then you have your answer as to why EA is persisting with Origin.  Now that is fine if you are not strongly opposed to Origin that is your choice, but really your posts ring a tad bit hollow where you are lamblasting Origin but you carry on supporting it.  EA is counting on today's gamer not having any balls and willing to put up with this kind of stuff just to play a game.

You want to know why we have to put up with crap like Origin ?  It's because gamers such as yourself support it.  If the PC community pulled together and avoided EA products we would soon put an end to Origin and we could all play Mass Effect 3 completely free of Origin, but I guess that is too much to ask in this day and age.

From the quotes looks like it will be required, a confirm would be nice

Shame to be honest since ME1&2 and Dragon Age origins was good but guess i'll just use youtube to see how the ME3 story ends and pick it up if it appears on steam in a few years time
