Seriously we need to stop off topic in this thread or Chris will lock another Origin thread, so origin haters will have another reason for their hate.

So far, everything discussed on this thread is directly related to the subject of Origin.

Re-read the last three pages.  Ya we are getting off topic and into propaganda.

Yeah, this is getting silly. :(

Only thing id like to say on this issue: Buy Game - Download and Crack It - play it.

:)

Remember, even if you actually purchase the game, and they get their money for their product, EA considers you "in violation" for doing what you just described.

That fact, and some of the things we're not allowed to talk about on this thread, make it clear what EA is really after with Origin, regardless of whatever else they claim.

They want an open door to your computer, and the ability to datamine whatever they can get away with over time.

Anything that interferes with that is going to be called "that eyepatch thing we can't talk about" and "violation of the EULA" and so on.

Lets be honest - they wont file a lawsuit against you if you do that.

If they file one - they are going to win, yes. But they are going to lose bigtime due to bad press. Pardon me, VERY BAD PRESS.

///

Origin - its annoying honestly. I dont like steam all that much, neither i dont like origin. Also i dislike origin because i spent around 2.5 hours trying to give EA my money, and couldnt (3 support guys were indians). In the end i had to buy off a random retailer.

///

And yes - this raises the question that Gabe Newell started, and many others have discussed - Give the people an easier way to get the game rather than pirating - and they will buy it if they can.

But origin makes it friggin difficult to buy a game, i wouldn't have even tried if it wasnt an Battlefield 3 expansion. Be that any single player game - well, i'd start looking somewhere else.

///
Regarding spyware - dont like it. Getting a lil' bit paranoid, but 'cos i dont run anything illegal on my pc - im fine. :) But if it does spy and collect data 'bout me - Sorry Origin, but you'r gonna be running in a sandbox. And no moneyz for u

We've seen some of EA's PR spin, sure.

Okay seriously, you need to back away from this topic for a while, the only spin that has been going around has been provided by you.  Frankly, you show all the symptoms of a troll.

Lets just get back on topic.

why do they keep us waiting for that long? whats the point of it? they read here how many dont want origin. is a simple "yes" or "no" that much to ask for?

Hey, if you want to believe whatever EA tells you no matter what, that's your problem.

There are enough gamers who are either ignorant of what's really going on, or care more about their game fix than about their security and privacy, that EA knows they can get away with whatever they want as long as they skirt the edges of the law.

Again, I have done research into this, dug into several different sources of info.  Ran programs checking Origin.  It doesn't scan you computer,  it just checks directories related to Origin (Last check I did it actually only went into three directories, all \\origin )  That isn't being ignorant or Nieve.  That's doing your homework an finding out for yourself what is going on... rather than just taking what some random guy says on the internet with false or majorly outdated propaganda as fact.

Seriously.  it's best to let this thread die.  People just keep getting on there soapboxes trying to entice something.

When they announce it they'll announce it.

Check the older threads regarding Origin. Find the references to tests. Origin scanned a lot more than just the Origin directory and "a couple of .dlls".

If that's changed, it's for the better, but there's absolutely no reason to believe it won't be changed back to the much broader scanning behavior later.

Never mind that the Origin installer actually started scanning the computer before the customer actually agreed to anything, at least in earlier tests.

How many times must it be said? It may not scan your PC or anything but the Terms of Use are ambiguous, they could easily change them if they wanted. There are many corporations that have been caught doing things they shouldn't in the past. What makes EA trustworthy? Aside from this there's also the fact that EA doesn't have the best reputation when it comes to customers.

Besides how can I know what you say is true, you haven't provided any evidence. On the other hand there's a lot against Origin. A whole bunch of BF3 players in Germany can't be upset about nothing, so EA must be doing something wrong.

Well, not necessarily. An EA/Origin account is the same account used to post on this forum here, which you need in order to register the game. This isn't the same as having to install the client, which is the spyware.

And what if they did change the terms? Say they do scan all the files on my HD. They'll know that I listen to Death Cab for Cutie and Arcade Fire, that I have iTunes but use a Sony MP3 player rather than an iPod, that I still have Civ2, Master of Magic, and Baldur's Gate 2 installed on my PC, that I've got a Steam client installed but only for The Orange Box games, that I once had DAO and ME1 installed but had to remove them while maintaining my saves (my HD is full), that I use an old, old copy of WordPerfect Office, that I have far less pornography on my PC than the average American male does..... this all adds up to a colossal bore, I'm afraid.

This. It's not what Origin might or might not be doing to your computer right now, but what it has right to do in the future, if you agree to it's terms.

You want to tell me, that the Internet Explorer folder is Origin related? This folder will be checked, the history, cache and cookies. Setup.exe checks "My Images" and "My Music" and running programs. This is Origin related? No, it isn't! So, don't talk about thread dying.
As long as our data protectors or consumer protectors are not satisfied the issue is open. If you don't read or talk about it go away.

There are something new on German site. The Private Policy and TOS were updated yesterday. The English version is still dated Dec 6th and Nov 28th.
Yes, I know "We can change when we want..." is always there but maybe it is step in the right direction and the other policies will be changed too.

Are you for real? Do you really hate your privacy so much, that you would allow some corporation to spy on you and then do with that data whatever they bloody well please? Really?

They have no right to that information, and no right to make surrender of that information or access to it a condition of buying their product.

This is something that several European countries are well ahead of the US on, in terms of law.

(Talking real rights, not "we have a right because the law currently lets us get away with it".)

Why would you allow EA to know anything?  They have no inherent right to your information.  It's like a vampire... they can't **** with you until you invite them in, but once you do, it's all over.  I mean... this thing is against the law in some countries.  You'd think people wouldn't trivialize it.
