Will the Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition wipe out my current install of the original game Dragon Age: Origins when I install it? I downloaded the Ultimate Edition from d2d last night and it includes the original game, so I started wondering if when I install it, will it write over my current game, or do I have the option to just install Awakenings and all the other DLCs without overwriting the orginal Dragon Age: Origins game?
Thanks for any help on this matter.

Numerous gamers who wanted to do what you have in mind just got a terrible mess if they failed to unistall the original campaign first before running DA:U's install. There was no partial install option, and the registry needed to be fixed, first, and an uninstall will handle that.
Incidentally, next time you have a TECH question, take it to the TECH forum.

Thanks for trying Gorath, but this doesn't really answer my question. Surely there are people who played the original Dragon Age: Origins - before Awakenings or any other DLC came out - who did a straight install as soon as they bought Awakenings. I've never seen a video game that required you to wipe out Part 1 before you installed Part 2 of that game.
Does anyone else have any other input?
I would think I could just save my game progress files and my player character files and copy and paste them in the proper location within the Dragon Age files, but I'm not sure...
Also I apologize Gorath, for posting this question in the general area of the forum, and I could see why you would view it as a Tech question. I'll try to do better on future posts.

Use common sense.
If you bought a digital download of DAO, then buy a physical UE. It wouldn't be a bad idea to uninstall DAO first.
Same for the opposite, PS3, and 360. The alternative is to keep it all the same. If you bought DAO on a disc, buy the UE on disc
Do you have to? Probably not, but by not mixing it you reduce the chance of a headache. Check the PS3 forum for example. People who bought the PSN DAO are asked for the disc when they try to install Awakening from a disc.
So, I'd uninstall then install. Just like what Gorath was alluding to with people who didn't having run into terrible messes for it.

Thanks for your reply. But both my DAO and my DAO UE are digital downloads from the same company. I have no discs to deal with at all. I don't know if that helps you any, but thanks for your advice. I really appreciate it.

You can safely install the UE over your current version. This is only true because they are the same format (digital download from the same company). Mixing physical media with the downloaded version or mixing different downloaded versions is not a good idea, although I installed the download of Awakening over the retail version of DA:O without a problem.
You generally don't have to worry about losing saves and such, although it's always a good idea to have backups for a variety of reasons separate from uninstall/install.

Thanks a million Mod Kevin. Now I feel better about going ahead with the install.

I have the exact same question right now... I have the physical version of Dragon Age Origins (PC), which I bought from Gamestop on release date, but I recently bought Dragon Age Ultimate Edition (Digital version) from Amazon... I really don't know how I should go about doing this...

Hello rhosangjin,
You will need to backup your save files for Dragon Age: Origins and uninstall the physical copy. Once you are sure the game is no longer on your system you can proceed with installing your digital copy of the Ultimate Edition. After the installation of your Ultimate Edition has been completed you will then want to replace your save game files.
Please respond back if you require further assistance.
