Dragon Age II ranked very high among both readers and editors of Finnish Pelit magazine when the said magazine had voting going for greatest disappointments of 2011. Among readers, DA II narrowly  "lost" only to Duke Nukem Forever. Editors actually voted it as disappointment of 2011 over DNF.

Way back when, DA:O ranked in identical fashion when the same mag chose game of the year 2009.

It was my favorite game of 2011 as well. Completed more playthroughs of it than any other game released during that year

Most disappointing game of 2011? Yep.

Worst game of 2011? Out of the games I played, yep.

Favourite game of 2011? Tough fight between Dark Souls and Skyrim.

You may disagree, but that does not explain the plethora of RPG's that have only told a single tale. It may not be your fave, but does not make them any less a large part of the genre.

So because there are a lot of bad RPGs and RPG elements out there, it is OK for Bioware to incorporate them into DA2?

Perhaps, but I hardly call many of the old Gold Box series and their ilk bad RPG's. And while I am unable to produce a more exhaustive list, I am certain other gamers around here might have better recall then either of us.

I will have you know that those bad cRPGs that you speak of are the games that started the genre from Wizardry, Might and Magic, the Bards Tale, Baldur's Gate, Planescape Torment, SSI's Gold Box series  and Ultima. So if those are bad RPGs I want to in that company. Baldur's Gate has been voted the best cRPG series of all time. Some of the people on this forum would consider some of these games in their opinion to have bad elements.

I find them all to be classics in the best sense of the word and many of them only told a single story, but it was told well.

For me choice is the main thing that seperates an RPG game from an adventure game, but that's just my opinion.

It depends on the type of adventure game you are talking about. If you mean the point and click adventure games I will agree with you otherwise no. Infocom, Level 9 and other adventure games are all about choice.  In fact the whole dialogue system of an adventure game depends on choice. The dialogue is setup in a tree like branching structure and the avatar has to chose from the available options that brings up more options to choose from to continue the storyline.

And that's one of the big differences between them and DA2.

The other being gameplay based on a tried and tested mechanics that did not have an "awesome" button and highly questionable concepts such as paratroop reinforcements and enemies having hundreds of thousands of hit points.

A single story game - and I think "adventure" maybe a more apt catergorization than "RPG" as the poster above stated - can be enjoyable, but that stroy better be good, it better be told well, and the gameplay enjoyable enough so players forget their lack of choice.

If I'm playing an RPG, I want choices.

We had choices; still do:

I chose to enjoy the story, while you did not.

You choose to focus on sales hype and game mechanics that you seemingly did not enjoy, while I pressed the Button and enjoyed the game a few times including killing all the raining men.

I believe the story was good and told rather well; you did not.

Thankfully, I rather like the choices I made, as opposed to ranting over the things I did not enjoy.

And there were actual choices in the game; just maybe ones that did not go the way you wanted.

I really liked DA2 There's alot of things I like more about it than originsPeople are way too harsh on the game though, there's a difference between constructive criticism and then just going out of your way to insult people. I can understand some of the dissapointment but it's not like they purposely set out to rob you of your money and not like it was a fortune anyway. But I hope Bioware knows that some of us really like the game and appreciate your work :)
(I'm probably going to get bashed for this, oh well

No, all the games I mentioned were cRPGs and some of the best. All of these games had choices. I know what an adventure games is. I played and still own lots of them along with my cRPGs. I am talking about infocom, Level 9, Sierra On-Line and Scott Adams games. Also the original Colossal Adventure is an adventure game.

Role playing games do not need multiple stories to be an excellent or great role playing experience. I almost forgot another of my favorite : Acranum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura.

And there went any attempt at a conversation.  You chose to like a story?  Really?  Why don't you share your secret so students don't have to suffer through crappy books and people no longer have to suffer watching movie genres they dislike for the sake of their significant other?

I do not hate DAII yet I do not like it either. I enjoyed the story and characters but the game itself is far from what I could enjoy playing. Despite the well-known flaws like reused environments and ridiculous enemy wave, the elimination of skill system and specialization unlock do not make any sense. Revamped combat is fun but RPG is not all about fighting, where is the exploration and social skill? where is the fade maze and puzzles?

I also preferred the less restrictive gameplay of DAO (eg; miss my armored Rogues), but enjoy the integrated skills; simply wish there were more included. And the new Talent tiers seem to allow for more customization than simply selecting a specialty.

The exploration was in the city itself, as all those side quests are optional. No social skills, but if added for DA3, I hope they remain optional, too.

The Fade was still there, as well as containing a few puzzles, as I recall. But not many appear to miss the Maze, based on the numbers that used the mod to skip it.

This.

I don't buy many games that disappoint me.

Dragon Age 2 is the worst game purchase I've made to date.

Congrats! I also avoided PoR, and saved my hard drive.

My worst nominee goes to the old Gold Box title; Hillsfar. But I was able to play DA2 at least three complete sessions for 300+ hrs, so this one does not even appear on my list.

I will be happy to share my secret. First there are no crappy books if I can gleem knowledge and/or enlightenment from them. As far as movies genres I do not like all that matters to me is that I am with my significant other and we are enjoying something together.
In life darkness may come, but I look for the joy in the morning. I get to wake up every morning with my significant other.

I like the old saying: When life throws lemons at you make lemonade. It is a cool refreshing drink.

I like the story in DA2. It is as old as the story in DAO. DA2 is rags to riches. DAO is defeat the big evil. Standard fanasty stories.
