Way back when, DA:O ranked in identical fashion when the same mag chose game of the year 2009.

I could not disagree more.

So because there are a lot of bad RPGs and RPG elements out there, it is OK for Bioware to incorporate them into DA2?

It depends on the type of adventure game you are talking about. If you mean the point and click adventure games I will agree with you otherwise no. Infocom, Level 9 and other adventure games are all about choice. In fact the whole dialogue system of an adventure game depends on choice. The dialogue is setup in a tree like branching structure and the avatar has to chose from the available options that brings up more options to choose from to continue the storyline.Cstaf wrote...

For me choice is the main thing that seperates an RPG game from an adventure game, but that's just my opinion.

I find them all to be classics in the best sense of the word and many of them only told a single story, but it was told well.

And that's one of the big differences between them and DA2.
The other being gameplay based on a tried and tested mechanics that did not have an "awesome" button and highly questionable concepts such as paratroop reinforcements and enemies having hundreds of thousands of hit points.
A single story game - and I think "adventure" maybe a more apt catergorization than "RPG" as the poster above stated - can be enjoyable, but that stroy better be good, it better be told well, and the gameplay enjoyable enough so players forget their lack of choice.
If I'm playing an RPG, I want choices.

We had choices; still do:
I chose to enjoy the story, while you did not.
You choose to focus on sales hype and game mechanics that you seemingly did not enjoy, while I pressed the Button and enjoyed the game a few times including killing all the raining men.
I believe the story was good and told rather well; you did not.
Thankfully, I rather like the choices I made, as opposed to ranting over the things I did not enjoy.
And there were actual choices in the game; just maybe ones that did not go the way you wanted.

And there went any attempt at a conversation. You chose to like a story? Really? Why don't you share your secret so students don't have to suffer through crappy books and people no longer have to suffer watching movie genres they dislike for the sake of their significant other?

I do not hate DAII yet I do not like it either. I enjoyed the story and characters but the game itself is far from what I could enjoy playing. Despite the well-known flaws like reused environments and ridiculous enemy wave, the elimination of skill system and specialization unlock do not make any sense. Revamped combat is fun but RPG is not all about fighting, where is the exploration and social skill? where is the fade maze and puzzles?

I just wanted to let Bioware know that as well.

This.
I don't buy many games that disappoint me.
Dragon Age 2 is the worst game purchase I've made to date.

Occasionally, Skyrim does have some lines I do enjoy....
