It's a tricky argument and highly subjective because if the main game delivers with lots of content, then they can do all the DLC they want. That said, I thought ME2 was rather sparse in the weapons and armor dept and sure enough the extra stuff came rolling in after release, most of it for a price. But then getting Zaeed, Shale and their respective missions for free was awesome. .
I actually have a problem with weapon and armor DLC. Since Bio games are always fairly easy, don't the new items inevitably make game balance that much worse? They have to be better than the stock items or people wouldn't use them. I thought this was an issue in DAO too; stuff like the Helm of Honnleath and the Cadash Stompers were awfully good, especially if you got them early.

Paying for day1 DLC when I just bought the game doesn't sound very appealing to me. Of course I'm not the biggest fan of excessive DLC to begin with.

CE is not getting their own special character. Extra character is going to be day 1 for all versions of the game.

They have not released information about it yet. Closer to release, that question will inevitably be answered.suntzuxi wrote...

What Chris Priestley did say was that the content in the CE will not be available as DLC (i.e. the N7 weapons, the in-game hoodie, robo-dog, alternate appearance packs). People speculated that this included the extra character as well, as the picture on the Collector's Edition states it has an extra character. The actual thread about the Collector's Edition has this extra character edited out. As this was intentially edited out, I personally believe that this extra character will be Day 1 DLC. As of now, this is still speculation.

You know what it means to be DLC? That it isn't relevant and you can fulfill the plot without doing it. The DLC, YOU DON'T NEED IT. STOP TREATING IT LIKE YOU CAN'T OPEN THE CASE ON THE STANDARD EDITION WITHOUT IT.

If you have the CE you've already paid for it, with the $20 on top of the $60 for the full game. If you're getting the standard, there's a character, mission, Vega armor, and weapons. And you don't NEED any of it. It's extra for paying for the CE.Ravenmyste wrote...

Heres a crazy idea. Just put the character in-game and not charge extra for it. Its clearly already done.
This... once upon a time game designers made games. People bought games, later, designers made expansions. later they made mini-expansions called "DLC", both of which contained additional content beyond the original game since they lacked development time to include it in the original game or were bright ideas they had after the event.
Now designers make a game, and they slash out half the content, so they can sell you the slashed content seperately.
...hooray for capitalism :|

Hooray for baseless claims! The content may have been cut. The content may have been developed by a small team with its own budget. We don't know, we'll probably never know.

You can however BUY the character and the mission as DLC on the first day.
It sucks, i have to say the DLC policy of the major publishers are getting crazy.......well in future i'll wait for the ultimate editions of the games

sadly day one DLC is the wave of the future. I dont like it either, but then again I'm getting the CE so I'll have the extra character from the start.
I don't think it is. I think it's the last desperate attempts of publishers that are quickly becoming irrelevant in a digital delivery future, attempting to shore up their dropping profits, especially since they keep pushing so much "Me too!!!" mediocre games out the door that people don't buy them.
I mean honestly, Minecraft performed better than a number of EA titles did this year. EA's just becoming irrelevant, and their frantic attempts to gain some sort of presence in every possible delivery method and platform testify to that. It's telegraphing to me that EA's realized they have a major problem, and don't have any idea how to handle it.

Everything in a game is developed by dedicated teams. There's no one "team" that makes the entire game. By that reasoning each of the sub-teams of the developers should by rights sell their content seperately.
Mass Effect 2: Omega
Mass Effect 2: The Normandy
Mass Effect 2: Voice Overs
Mass Effect 2: Pyjak hunt!
Where do you draw the line between a sub-team that makes content for the "core game" and a sub-team that makes content for a day 1 DLC? 9It's not like Bioware does 3rd party DLC anymore, not since NWN anyway)

I hope you are right GATT.
EA especially seems one or two steps behind other major publishers, i belive they don't have the necessary faith in their developers to truly create something original for once, and this brought them to lose the protagonist role in the videogame market.
In this sense the continous attempts from EA to mark new games as BIOWARE, can be seen as their desparte act to reassure players around the world about the quality of their products.
That said Bioware has been losing some of it's good name lately, because of some relatively rushed products.......is it because of EA?

Person B: "If you don't like it, don't buy it! No one's forcing you!"
Person A: "But..."
Person B: "Quit blaming Bioware! Everyone else is doing it, this isn't 1995!"
Person A: "I..."
Person B: "Day-one DLCs are just extra! You don't even need them to play the game!"
Person A: "..."
and it goes on.
