Can't particularly think of games that I despise, but I think that the Uncharted series deserves a mention.

Definitely! It has become so formulaic that I can tell what will happen after each scene. The voice acting and graphics are great, but the rest is starting to become garbage. They need to do something different to surprise the audience. Reason why I didn't even look at Drake's Deception.

Alice: Madness Returns

I love "American McGee's Alice", but this so called "sequel" just pisses me off.

Edit: Why? The gameplay is horrible, the plot is boring and it adds nothing to the story of the first game.

Gameplay, ok that's subjective to each person's opinion but you're wrong when you say it adds nothing to the story. She avenges her family plus it addresses a few ambiguous things from the first game.
Also, just because you're no good at the platforming doesn't mean it sucks.

I disagree. I didn't find the story good because for me it just looked like something someone had come up with in a few minutes to get some money.

Someone murdered Alice's family? Oh, okay. I think I saw the cat start the fire by accident in the first game, but okay...

Alice had a sister? Oh, okay. No one mentioned her in the first game, I wonder why? Because she didn't exist until the sequal? Right.

That's my main problem with the story. If you enjoyed it, good. I'm okay with that. Me? I thought it was bad.

Skyrim. The game is just boring, plain and simple. You have no sense of direction, the dialogue makes it impossible to give personality to your character, and its just boring. The combat too, it is just far too basic to be fun.

Have you played any of the previous TES games?

No, why?

There's the reason for your Skyrim hate. Most of the people who loved Skyrim were long time TES fans and Skyrim had improved so much from the previous Edler Scrolls games without losing it's grand open world feel.

COD. No story depth, totally linear and overly scripted. But I despise it because it (and Gears) is so popular that everybody else wants to copy it. The FPS genre used to be an equal favourite of mine along with RPGs. But the last 2-3 years, FPSes have become mostly about regenerating health, wally mcchesthigh cover system, weapon carry limits, checkpoint only saving, and 5 hour singleplayer campaigns. If it was just COD that sucked, I could ignore it. But its ruined an entire genre. And its also one of the worst offenders for excessive DLC.

I don't like any game that involves pretending to be a real-world (especially current-day) soldier. It doesn't help that multiplayer is a big feature in the ones I'm aware of, and the people my brother plays with on multiplayer seem like morons.

Any/all sports games. Especially Fifa. Why obsessing over sport is normal but loving RPGs is weird continues to baffle me.

Oh please, I've heard this argument before(people on the AM forums constantly bash this game), if there's one thing that's for certain is that American Mcgee isn't for selling out. The only thing that was it's downfall was that there were a lot of things unfinished due to EA's stric deadline.

The intro to the first game was retconned, it was the fire according to Alice's memory and was twisted by hger guilt.

Skyrim - Each time i play a game i like good narative and feel like im part of something special. Skyrim to me was just like one big toy in which you create a character and just play around. Generic cookie cutter quests didn't add to my experience. I ended up cringing at every story aspect of the game. I should have expected it but the way the radiant story was so advertised by todd i thought wow they must be something that could attract me and maybe i could find out how they did it. It worked out fairly okay but my experience was not enjoyable. I think when you are spoiled by rpgs with good story like dues ex,witcher 2.bg2,mass effect and have no exposure to open world type of "build your own story" type of games..you may find such things really lacking. I do recieve a lot of backlash cause "i do not know what rpgs are about" but i really could care less im all about innovations in video games.
ps. Character interaction didn't impress me in skyrim too. Truthfully if al bethesda games are like this...i don't think i might get their future games

Exactly.

I've gotta say...Skyrim became extremely tedious for me right now so I am waiting for users to create content that puts Bethesda to shame (as always). New Vegas is a way better game. I found myself actually being able to RP in New Vegas a lot more. I can't think of much in Skyrim.

Hmmn that would be a long list if I thought about it so here's a quickie list...
Super Mario Brothers/Mario Cart
Final Fantasy 2+
ANYTHING with the word "Pokemon" in it
Doom
Duke Nukem 3D(thank you alien bondage babes for unlocking my latent misogyny)
Elder Scrolls
Metal Gear
Halo
CoD
Battlefield
Madden $70 expansion packs
The Sims (I would have to give this game my "WtF" award)
World of Warcrack

The very first one was pretty revolutionary. By todays standards it was just lame, of course, but in it's day it was awesome. I'll always love it and still play the playstation remake on my phone when I'm having trouble sleeping (it'll put you right out...).

The whole FF series(basically it's squareenix's cash cow and they keep milking it. Has the most predictable plot, boring or annoying combat, the same character types rehashed with every game and the lsit goes on) This applies to most JRPGs in my experience save a few that I actually liked such as Persona.

The Final Fantasy games. Too much use of rehased character types, plots, and of course having the final boss that has like four transformations. You know what? This applies to nearly every JRPG imo.

Skyrim, not that I despise the game completely I just find it really boring. After you finish the main questline (which was disappointment considering how easy it was) none of the other questlines (except maybe the Civil War) are as interesting in scale as the main quest. Not to mention that most of the characters in the game are too dull to remember, the character interaction is just terrible.

So much FF hate. Shouldn't it be on the other side of the spectrum then? Unless it's managed some kind of near-perfect love-hate equilibrium. I'm not seeing the whole same character type tthing myself and I've played all but XI and XIV which are MMO's. I'll give you that the battle system isn't for everyone though. And it's very rare to see a plot that isn't cliched now. This sin't limited to just JRPGs.

As for despise, it's kind of a harsh word, but I'd say CoD. Never really liked CoD. I'd play it if a friend brought it over, but that's it. I'm more of an older FPS fan myself. GoldenEye 007, Perfect Dark, Timesplitters franchise, that stuff. I also like Doom and for what little I've played of it, the Half-Life series.

Even though the combat system was lacking (like all Bethesda games it seems), New Vegas was awesome because of the world, characters, and dialogue. I can understand how anyone can play or roleplay however they want. I've actually complete a playthrough without killing a single human, used a stealthboy for the harder parts. Reminds me so much of Fallout: 1/2, but it pales in comparison due to the combat system.

Gears of War 2:
Incredibly annoying and cliched characters, and a campaign that drags on after a while. Had no interest in trying the sequel at all.

Halo games:
While I appreciate they are mostly loved for the multiplayer, there is still a large fanbase of the campaigns. For me they are boring and generic and I don't understand praise they sometimes get for the story.

Oblivion:
The most bland RPG I've played. Fortunately they improved on the dialogue, voice acting and level design enough for me to enjoy Skyrim, but I didn't get on with Oblivion at all. Several mechanics like the levelling up system, lockpicking and speech I didn't like either.

Super Smash Bros games:
Mostly because my friends used to play them a lot and I was always terrible when I tried, I find it too chaotic.

There's various other popular games I didn't hate but wasn't fussed about either, like the GTA series and Final Fantasy X. Also, all military shooters - I used to play them but I'm completely sick of them now.

Sorry
in all honesty the Final Fantasy games are beyond my comprehension. I have a friend who loves them and I cannot for the life of me figure out why.

Whether or not it's a roleplaying game is a better argument, most of them are better compared to action-adventure games...but whether or not they're games in general?

From wikipedia: "A video game is an electronic game that involves human interaction with a user interface to generate visual feedback on a video device."
