Hoping a good weapon modeler can make a set of lances
I am aware of these, but I'm hoping for something more interesting.
Do you really need to ask why I need a set of mounted weapons?

What the hell is Shakespeare doing hanging out with all those lance-wielding guys in example 2?

A lance is almost a type of spear. Maybe he likes to shake them.

I'll give it a shot in the day.

What weapon type do yo uwant this for? Spear?

Don't worry about weapon types and blueprints, that's all 2DA work that I can handle. I might define a new baseitem row for such anyway,
However in general use long speas and polearms as a guide for how they'd be weilded and determing grip position.

Right O.
For the moment i'm putting it in the spear catagory. It'll be thrown in with the rest of my upcoming pack stuff (Dragon Pack 2) as a hak and override in the next few days. Do you want the model mailed directly, or will that do?

So far:
http://imageshack.us.../lanceprev.jpg/
Poly count is 476. I was trying to keep it low for this, but if you want a smoother look, I can remodel a slieghtly higher poly version.
Any specific changes needed?
Another type is also in the works.
PS: Do you know of any site that has some nice lance reference images besides sketches? I haven't been able to find a single one....

That look awesome. Some additional color types perhaps especially around the hilt. I fI find some better example images I'll post them.

Right now the weapon is fully tintable, so the colors can be adjusted. Or did you mean color patterns?
Also, I should have asked this before, but did you want this to be a three part weapon? Right now its only one part, like all spears, but I can cut it up if that's preferable. Was using the spear type specifically because its animations are better suited (halberds tend to swing more than stab).

any chance you missed smoothing groups? the hilt looks kinda facetted.
besides that the lance looks nice

Unless i'm missing something, nope. Used the smooth modifier (that is what your reffering to, right?) on it just as well as usual. The facetted effect is coming through due to the low poly count.
The next few will have a higher one so as to avoid this...
PS: Sorry for not sending that dress model yet Semper! I got bogged down in a billion things and ended up brushing that project under the rug. Still up for having a look at it?

nah, do not push the poly count any higher. close to 500 is already a bit high. smooth modifier sounds like blender - those are smoothing groups as far as i know. dunno if the exporter for blender supports such things (automatically).
the facetted look comes from the hard edges which ain't bending the light.
perhaps you can upload the raw model with textures somewhere. this way i can try to export it with max. you can upload the dress too but i have to read the thread again to know about the problem you encountered^^

Ah, not using Blender here. I'm doing my stuff in 3d Max 2009. But sure, i'll toss up the raw models soonish.

nice, just drop the max file and send me the link
btw if you are using max then you can try to use the auto smoothing with 65°. this should erase those hard edges.

Hey Semper, I sent the lance to the address you messaged me back when we were discussing the dress model... did you ever get it?

after your post in this thread i checked my mail. sry for the long wait
i've imported your model and the smoothing groups seem to be wrong. dunno if that happens because of importing or if they were wrong from the start. in case you didn't know i wrote a quick and easy way to improve upon this:
http://i44.tinypic.com/30x7nms.jpg
1) go into edit mode, switch to polygon and select all the polygons with crtl+a
2) scroll the side bar down to smoothing groups and hit "clear all"
3) right next to the button "auto smooth" enter 65 (this is the angel most games/engines use)
4) hit "auto smooth"
in almost every case an auto smooth should be enough. if you don't like the outcome you can play around with the angel or manually edit the groups to your liking.

Sweet, thanks man! Yeah, importing seems to be screwing around with things. I'll see about fixing it up then.
Again, thanks a ton!

0100010; I've posted my new pack. It includes the lance in the spear section, so you can start fiddling with it. I am working on more lance models too, will upload them when I have enough ready.
