I played dragon age 2 the first time as a fighter! Nice play through! I had a good time killing and taking a beating. I am now playing through as a theif and OMG I'm a 'whirling dervish of death and destruction' ™! I haven't even explored how the Assassin skills will help my death dealling yet! No, rogue is not broken. In fact, they put a damage cap on Assassinate, making it difficult (but not impossible) to 1-shot elites, and even bosses. I think it's the most entertaining class in the game. I really enjoyed flying around stabbing things.
Feel free to look at AreleX's rogue guide for more awesomeness. If you take all of the bonus skill/stat options mentioned in the post by buying books and completing Fade puzzles successfully, as well as complete the Legacy and MotA DLC during the game, you will have a ton of extra skills to experiment with as well as those recommended by AreleX.

Rogue isn't broken, but it does make some boss fights like the Arishok duel trivial.

A well built rogue can be a death dealing powerhouse and, is one of two I can solo hard difficulty with and the only one I have done solo on nightmare. (mage being the other hard mode solo but, that is due to my better mages mod - makes them one hitters on fully upgraded spells on casual 2-3 hits normal mode so, very overpowered for anything shy of hard mode.)

I didn't go to deep in the Assassin grid. I wasn't feeling very evil when I played it.
