It isn't really that bad. I find the story good enough and the main antagonist is also great. Multiplayer sucks big time, but nobody forces you to to play it. Overall, it's a great game. No need to bash it just for crappy multiplayer.
There's one funny thing: In the first game you have a wrench which can kill most of the enemies in one or two hits, making it the best weapon in the game. In Bioshock 2 you have a huge drill which deals minimum damage and is the most useless weapon you can use. Not fair.
The scond one is

Its plot and characters remind of Predator. Just instead of an alien hunter you get to kill dinosaurs. The gameplay might not be that great, but it's a really good game. Plus, it has Ron Pearlman.

Mirror's Edge: It was something new and different but had it's flaws. Overall I thought it was innovative and I look forward to a sequel.
L.A. Noire: It's kind of popular and kind of isn't. Personally I love the mystery/detective genre along with the noire style.
Jade Empire: Short game and sometimes frustrating combat, but I really enjoyed it.
Deus Ex: Invisible War: Compared to the first Deux Ex yeah I agree that IW was dumbed down but I still thought it was good. Not as good as the first Deus Ex but still good.

It's certainly not as good as DA:O that's for sure.... but it's not at all the worst game ever. Disappointing maybe, but not worst. I still had fun playing the game despite any flaws it had.

But yeah, I like Bioshock 2 as well. I don't think everyone's complaints about it are very fair. The storyline isn't as good as the first, but the first was a masterpiece. It isn't fair to expect the sequel's story to top it, especially with the sequel syndrome. On the other hand, the game itself plays much better. There are more options, it's more tactical, more and better plasmids and guns, smarter enemies. And it does give you a bit more insight into Rapture, more than the first game did, without rehashing much.

Also, I think it's more a case that people haven't played them, as opposed to disliking them, but Lost Odyssey, and Beyond Good and Evil.

Just to add in more games I thought of that I didn't include in my previous post:

Your list is exactly what I would pick.

Jade Empire
Alpha Protocol
Mass Effect 2 (even though I still think 1 was the best so far...)
Resonance of Fate
BioShock 2
Dark Messiah (maybe I know the wrong people but nobody liked it...)
and usually I would add Metro 2033 but I realized that there's quite a number of people who liked it.

Indigo Prophecy
FF13
Kingdom Hearts 2 (yeh it could of been better, but it was still awesome)
Star Wars: Jedi Academy (especially the multiplayer)
Pokemon: Ruby and Sapphire (seems to be the most criticized entry; besides red/blue, they are my favs :3)
Enter the Matrix
007: Agent Under Fire
Fallout: New Vegas (majority seem to dislike it; I think it was lightyears better than Fallout 3)
Dante's Inferno
Brutal Legend
Medal of Honor: Airborne
Heavy Rain

Don't know who the majority is on that because I've only ran across very few people who actually preferred FO3 over NV. Most people I've spoken to seemed to like New Vegas a lot (both fans of the original series and those who have never played other Fallout games).

I'm starting to wonder if some of you understand what "everyone" and "dislike" really mean.
Yup.
Seriously Mass Effect 2? People here may say it's worse than Mass Effect 1 but it seems to be liked by everyone.
Someone wanted to mention Metro 2033 which would be nonsense. It's an excellent shooter and good story for a linear game and it looks amazing.
Baldur's Gate I can't believe.

FO: NV is way better than FO3 XP FO3 was boring as heck and dumbed down from what made FO1 and FO2 really awesome. And I know that I admited earlier to Deus Ex: Invisible War being dumbed down from the first Deus Ex yet I enjoyed it.... but the thing was that at least it wasn't boring. FO3 made me not care along with making me claustrophobic in game.
