Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image The Game as a whole ROCKS i love it. I am currently playing through it a 2nd time getting some stuff I didnt get the first time. There is only one thing i am dissapointed with about the game and that is the NON-Open Roam like in Oblivion and Fallout 3. The Hype on this game pre launch was so great that i thought it would be an open world with free roam.
I was soarly dissappointed to find this was not so. Maybe BioWare will come out with a patch or Add On that will change this.

In my opinion Bethesda Changed the face of Single Play RPG's with the open roam as it gives a more imersed game play expeirience.

Dragon Age is awsome non the less but not Epic  Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

BioWare's RPGs are as you've noticed quite different from Bethesda's. No patch will give you what you want I'm afraid.

I have never missed the free roam. I actually don't like free roaming since it's just a time sink most of the time and it takes time away from the designers to actually design interesting content instead of a waste but generally empty area for you to travel through.

But what I REALLY miss is good optional side story/areas.

The game is setup so you start of with your Origin story of choice > Ostagar > Lothering > Main quest/World Map > Landsmeet > Final Battle.

But problem I'm having is that there's only really 5 points of interest on the world map and they are all part of the main story. When you look back on say Baldurs Gate 2 you had a ton of great optional content. I'd go so far to say around 60% of the totalt playable contant was optional.

I know it takes a lot longer to develop something today in hi fidelity 3D compared to the pre rendered 2D art in BG2. but I still wish they would have focused more on having great areas to explore, bosses to fight and less on political choices.

But hopefully Dragon Age will be like the Baldurs Gate series. BG1 was a great game, but BG2 was a legandary game. They already have a great engine in Dragon Age so hopefully they will be able to just push out great content for the sequel.

Also... BRING BACK 6 MAN PARTYS! Pretty please with suger on top :P

I tend to blast through games rather quickly if there is no free roam then about the 5th or 6th time i play through im so bored im ready to pull my hair out as for the time sink eh thats what they make fast travel for only gotta run out there once then you FT it lol. Still to this day i am not bored with Oblivion and Fallout 3. But i see your point about the Optional quests and i completely agree.

In addition i hope SWTOR will NOT be mapped like this.

Yeah. I feel like the lack of free roam allows them pull off a tighter story line. But I do kind of miss it too.

I think it would be just prohibitively difficult (in time and resources) to make a game with such a tight storyline AND free roaming. It clearly wouldn't be possible to patch into the game as it stands, if you think about it. It would be the best thing, ultimately, though. Maybe one day BioWare or another co. will have the resources to do it. (Come to think of it, maybe that's precisely what they're saving up for SWTOR!)

If Dragon Age has the map roaming feature of Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir, then it would be perfect!

Im beginning to hate bethesda for "creating" (I doubt they created it, but they polished it) sandbox style rpgs. For some reason There are way too many uninformed players thinking its a evolution in gameplay...and not simply a different gameplay style.

sandbox style has its place....its place is not in this game. I would be incredibly sad if it was.

I also hate these "immersion" players. Why cant a game feel like a game? When did that make it worse?

Every time I see a complaint like this I wish I could stamp over it in big red letters OPINION
