I just beat Mass Effect on Hardcore and got to Lvl 54. Will I actually be able to make it to Lvl 60 when I start a NG+ on Insanity? (I know that there is a huge gap, thats why I'm asking)

IF you do everything, and fight EVERYTHING outside the Mako, you should be able to just make it.....
You might want to think about a speed run of major planets to boost your level again and get the free para/rene points to charm/intimidate and make sure you get what you want on the third run. I generally do three runs and once you hit level 60 you gain no XP, usually money is maxed, equipment is maxed so you can basically skip fights that don't do anything but give XP and move on to the main event if you catch my drift. By skipping fights I mean all the ones you face when in the Mako, ie driving between locations, all the outside fights on side-missions, and just go to the base and do your thing and leave.

You can do a speed run in around 9 hours and if you are level 60 I can do a 90% complete run in around the same time by simply not fighting things that don't need to be fought and not opening chests because I have what I need.

Like mcsupersport says, it's not guaranteed, but to maximize the chances of it happening, never fight anything in the Mako (for hard enemies like armatures, whittle them down with the Mako and then finish them off on foot) and do every side quest you can get. Check the wiki to figure out how to maximize XP for places like Noveria, where doing things in one order can cut you off from other areas/missions (and therefore from precious XP!) And open everything you can find, even coming back if you need to hack/open stuff.

Basically, every speck of XP counts, especially if you're going to try to get to level 60 on this run.

I managed to get from level 47 to level 60 in one playthrough. This involved doing every mission, fighting everyone outside the mako, killing everything that is available to be killed (For example in Noveria, I not only did the Doctor's mission, but also fought the mercs), opening every container, doing all resource/artifact missions and killing all Maws I knew about (again on foot).

In the end, I reached level 60 during the trench run in the final mission, so I did have a few thousand to spare.

Also, in the trench run, there is a part where the enemies keep respawning for a certain amount of time. I held back at that section and killed them all until they no longer respawned.

I don't think it's worth it going through the game again just to get more xp. Just use the console to give yourself the boost needed at the end to save yourself another 30 hours.

I am doing a new playthrough atm for my ME3 import, there is no way in hell I am going to play with the Mako twice just to get to level 60 'legitimately'. However, I will be mining all nodes and finish every single planet though, just not twice. :D

Hmm, will it matter for ME3? Is your final ME level saved in ME2 or just where you finish ME2 at?

It will be the same thing I am guessing from ME1 -> ME2 (Starting at level 5 in ME2 if you made it to 60 in ME1). If you completed everything and got to max level, you may start with marginal benefits in ME3.

That's guessing though, I was wondering what was actually recorded in the ME2 saves. L60 makes starting ME2 a bit easier but you can end up finishing it maxed out without a L60 ME import. So will the ME result carry through or just where ME2 ended up? (i.e. could there be an ME3 benefit for finishing at the top of both instead of just in ME2)

Was wondering a similar thing. Don't know if this will be informative but... Got to Level 50 on my first Normal run. Also played a 2nd run (different character, but I think all the unlocked XP bonuses still apply) on Hardcore. Now I went back to my first character for my Insanity run. Currently at Level 59 at the end of Virmire, but not THAT far into Level 59. I still have to go back and finish all the Peak 15 stuff at Noveria, two collection assignments, and a couple of last assignments (morality, last Citadel ones, Colony of the Dead).

My big hang-up was that my first character was a Soldier, and my last two squadmate achievements were to play with Wrex and Liara. What you can probably readily tell: no Decryption skill. So I have missed out on every single hardened crate, wall safe, and salvage probe in the game. At 131XP per unlock, that's over 1,000 missed XP for every 8 containers not unlocked. I had to go all the way back to get Tali to unlock the door with the Armature on Feros and to unlock Wrex's armor safe, and I don't think I'll be able to bypass the door on Noveria to max out my XP there (since I don't think I can get back to the ship to get Tali).

Hopefully you're in a better situation than I am to reach Level 60 on your playthrough. Oh well, lessons learned, bygones. Good luck.
