New Xbox & forgot about save files

Mass Effect 3 is near, so I wanted to pop in the older ME's.
To my surprise, I forgot to back up the save files before getting rid of my old
Xbox. I tried searching the forum, but there is no clear cut answer.

I own both ME1 & 2 for 360, and the same gamer tag
I had when playing those games. I have absolutely no Mass Effect data on my
hard drive now and I was really looking forward to my characters progression
going into ME3. Just like many of you, I was really into the decision making
and consequences, so I put a lot of ‘work’ into the game, and it is unfortunate
I lost the characters.

What do I do? I don't want to start a fresh character on ME3, and I don't have
the time to dedicate to recreating Shepard in both games, especially since
college started back up, etcetera. I’ve read about finding save files online
and modding them to my liking, and obviously nobody knows how the files will
transfer over to ME3.

Does anybody have advice for me?

Unless you got rid of your 360 after the new Cloud storage option and after you transferred your save files to it there's no way of getting back your save files, though you already knew that.

While there are programmes for modding saves, check the character creation boards for those, I am personally unaware of 360 owners uploading their own save files. I suspect that might be the trickiest part for you. Those on the boards over there will likely be able to help you better than I can here.

I am just guessing wildly but I half suspect that reading about the character of James Vega as asking a lot of questions will be similar to making choices that you could make in the earlier games (sort of like the councillor question in the imported game in ME2 at the beginning but more extensive).

Actual advice. None whatsoever.

Thanks for the reply, I might just end up trying to see how quickly I can do run through the game making important decisions, but don't know yet. If it ends up taking way too long, I suppose I'll have to get over it and start a new character on ME3.

I'm going to guess you traded in your old 360 & not gave it to a friend. If so, then yeah, they're gone. ME1 also had the "hidden" files to worry about. So, even if you had a completed save game or a new game plus game going, the ME2 import could still be empty.

The ME2 mod thread & utilities cover how to tweak a save file if you want to generate one without going all the way through again. The various gibbed editors do a pretty good job at letting you pick the proper ME1 plot flags too.

Obviously there is the whole disclaimer in those threads for a reason, since it could corrupt save files if done wrong, it's a "grey area" regarding whether or not modding single player saves is worthy of the ban hammer, etc...

Even masseffectsaves.com won't host 360 saves for fear of getting taken down.
