I tried searching these forums for any answer to these questions that I have about 2 of the mage's abilities, but I could not find anything useful. Please help!

My mage Hawke has equipped a spirit staff called Malcolm's Honor (from the Mage Pack 1 DLC). Since this staff has really good statistics that also improve as your character levels-up, I plan to use it for the rest of the game.

Here are my 2 questions:

1) Does the Elemental Weapons ability work with a spirit staff, like Malcolm's Honor?

2) Does the Spirit Mastery ability improve all spirit damage that my character does, whether it is from other abilities that I cast or from weapons?

I would really appreciate your help!

Thanks for the info!

Yeah, I agree that Malcolm's Honor is really great. No other staff can really compare with it, gameplay-wise at least.

I am not really liking the design for it, unfortunately. Apparently, the figurine of the naked woman at the top is supposed to be of Andraste. Personally, I think that it is kinda creepy to have a naked figure of your main religious figure; it was funny when it was the statue in Xenon's Emporium, but I don't really care to have to stare at a nude Andraste for the entire game. Plus, my roleplaying concept for this mage Hawke is that he is not really religious at all (unlike my warrior Hawke), so it is kinda strange then that he would carry Andraste on his back all the time.

I'm just really finicky about my "roleplaying" in RPGs. LOL!:wizard:

I like the naked Andraste lol^_^

But more than that I love the fact that it scales with you and belonged to Hawke's father. I love items like that. I never sell them. Even when they've outlived their use I just put them into the chest.

Yeah, I kinda do that too. I always keep the item that the dead siblind had (Bethany's staff or Carver's sword), as if it would remind my character of their dead sister or brother.

I prefer Staff of parlathan, it is better than that one and, it has 2 rune slots. I do have mods so don't recall if it improves with level up by default or not. I give malcoms to one of my other mages and use parlathan when I play as a mage.

The regular Staff of Parlathan does not improve with level-up. It's normal stats are: 22 fire damage (30 per second), +2 magic, +24 mana/stamina, +13% fire damage, 1 rune slot. So, yeah, the mods that you are using must be affecting it.

Yeah it doesn't. If you don't have the mods its one of the worst weapons to use after act 1

I liked the idea Hawke was cutting down templars with a naked Andraste!
I think, Malcolm, because he hoped his children wouldn't be mages, was thinking "Andraste, help guide my poor, poor mage child."
It was odd, though, but I love that it was put into the DLC.
Hawke's Mom and Dad were people. They had kids (sex). They had naked things. They (Mom) wanted to be wooed and dated. I felt the staff was a powerful addition.

I like the malcolm's honor staff too! Too bad it doesn't have a rune-slot too where you can tack on a primeval lyrium rune and combine haste with it for the times you'd have to resort to auto-attacking.

I was surprised that Malcolm's Honor was a more powerful staff than Orsino's Staff which I found quite interesting! I wanted to be carrying the 1st Enchanters staff when I fought the Knight-Commander but it wasn't worth it!

I use a mod that evolves the items in the game, and Malcolm's staff is still the best one. I use it on my Hawke *unless going for a specific theme with them*, or on my go-to mage companion. (Bethany in Act 1, Merrill in acts 2&3). Since I use a mod that gives Merrill the creation tree/spirit healer talents as well, I never need to carry along Anders with me beyond doing his quests.
It is a nice one, easily exceeding even Hawke's Key (and yes, that evolves too with the mod)
