Can't use ME1 character import program

I keep trying to use the character import tool for ME2 to carry over my character from ME1, but whenever I try it it crashes. I purchased both ME1 and 2 off Steam for my Windows 7 64x PC. Can someone help?

Where does it crash? When you open the config utility? When you click on "Saves"? Or when you browse to the folder and then select import?
