After seeing all the new and extremely strong talents and spells for DA:A, I was expecting some interesting battles that would require using said spells&talents to overcome tough encounters, but there haven't been any "battles" at all. There's been me running around looting dead things, but that's about it for player involvement. It's kind of like reading a wiki about DA, but with better graphics.
I know Bioware has a tradition of making easy games, but this is a bit absurd even for Bioware. My party is L30ish at present and I'm still seeing a lot of L13 critter-level encounters. Uh, isn't the expansion supposed to be designed around an imported character of level 22~24ish? How did monsters under L20 escape the play pen and get into Awakenings? What happened to encounter-scaling?
And, is there anything at all to look forward to fight-wise in Awakenings? There's only so much fun you can have watching your team one-shot everything with auto-attacks in (lol) "nightmare" mode. Even the same-level elites that show up now and then take two hits to die instead of one.
DA:A where's the beef?!

If you mean more difficult encounters, no, not really.Bjond wrote...

The "beef", as you call it, is in Golems of Amgarrak.

Ah, sad to hear that. Guess I won't be replaying DAA. I'll probably do another round of DAO, though. It was pretty easy itself, but at least the fights felt like there was a modicum of struggle and the intraparty banter is hilarious. Too bad, really, if they were some decent battles, DAA abilities would have been a lot of fun.
BTW, I already did GoA. It was the first thing I did in DA and I'm very glad I did it first. It was a lot of fun with non-import chars. I actually had to reload a couple times. If I take an import into GoA, I have this sinking feeling it will be pretty dull -- mostly because I won't be able to resist "maxing" out my import (bringing extra manuals of focus, the right armor & rune sets, etc).

Ye awakening is not exactly hard on any difficulty. I see from checking your profile that you play on the pc, check out this mod if a challenge is what you want: http://social.biowar...m/project/2647/
It's called classic week and just reshuffles the game with a pretty hefty difficulty, but this only affects origins. Still if you want a challenging version of DAO with a pretty loony story premise its pretty entertaining
Also just 1 mb download ftw ^^

Possibly the toughest encounter in the game in an optional one - collect all 4 bone pieces in the Dragonbone Wastes to open up a dragon battle. I thnik it, and the final battle, are the toughest the game has to offer - but yes that still isn't saying much at all. Awakenings is famously a cakewalk. It's just something to sharpen your claws on for Golems of Amaaaagghhhk.
