Soldier the best class? Or just too easy to play well for too little effort?

Playing a soldier was like playing Gears of War for me, so I quickly created an adept and engineer characters (I'm not a fan of the hybrid classes). It was vastly more fun and tactical and will do that again for the next series.

Its a pointless debate really, its all down to personal preference, I prefer the soldier class as it fits with my style of play but I also like the Infiltrator class as well.

This is why I'm thinking playing the engineer or adept will be my top picks in ME3.

I'l believe it once I've tried it ( and the other classes ) for myself when ME3 comes out. I will concede however that the 'Soldier' class is probably over powered in ME2.

All of my Shepards are soldiers so up until recently I never really could compare the Soldier class to any of the other ones however I created my very first Vanguard Shepard about a few weeks ago. At first it was a bit of an adjustment, I hadn't realised how reliant I had become on the Time dilation from the Soldier's Adrenalin Rush, it became harder to aim and fire weapons like the Heavy Pistol ( a weapon I use alot as a Soldier ) without it and then there is also the matter of the getting out of the way of gunfire especially since Vanguards don't have the Soldiers shields or health. I died quite a few times early on. Later in the game once everything is more or less maxed out ( Biotic Charge ) however the Vanguard does come into a league of it's own and it is alot of fun to play as.

On the Adept, the Mattock has better synergy with the Tempest :<

i enjoyed breezing as soldier through my latest playthrough, mainly because i wanted another shepard for the import. it's undeniable that the soldier's damage output is vastly superior to the other classes, both in ME and ME2. it'll be my first class to play in me3 because - and that is valid for me - i enjoy the class being effective over it being interesting. dunno if that makes sense though ;->

class effectiveness is largely dependant on the player learning to use it effectively.  Of course it could be argued that soldier is the easiest one in terms of learning.

Thanks to slow cooldown timers, ME2 was only fun to play as soldier. I'm not gonna mention the utterly useless classes found in the game as well, we all know em by now.

They are only useless to you because you havn't learned how to play them right, it shows your narrow thinking and inability to adapt.  Your problem is you get stuck in one play style and won't think outside the box.  BTW the cooldown timers were actualy pretty short even for a low level Shepard.

Soldier is a damn good class but I'd put rank Vanguard and Sentinel above it, even on Insanity.

Soldier is a great class, but I prefer Adept over it because of the different playstyle. It is all about preference, to me there's no "better" class.

All classes can use all weapons, so I really don't see the point in playing as a Soldier, because I can get by with two-three weapons just fine.

No matter which class is easier to use or more powerful, the best class will always be Vanguard.

I always thought it was stupid to limit availability of the assault rifle, it and the side arm are the basic gear everyone should be aquainted with, and thus able to carry. This new mechanic is a change for the better.

I kinda like them all in their own way. They've got different means of playning and go through different ways.

Soldier is bread and butter FPS style.
Vanguard is in your face action game.
Infiltrator defiantly plays a bit like your stealth game.
Adept and Engineer are very tactical classes.

People say Adept is slow, but I breezed by fairly easily with it. Paired off with Garrus with maxed out Overload and Squad Armor Piercing ammo, and I took Stasis (only needed one point in it.) and the Viper Sniper Rifel and it really didn't matter who was our third member - things just died.

I almost allways play soldier, I think that's most fun. Maybe I'm boring, I dunno. However, I think it's one of the easiest, if not THE easiest class to finish the game with, but that's just because I'm so used to it. There is no way to say if one class is better than any other, it's really up to the person in front of the screen. I guess teammates help but not that much. I can beat ME2 on insanity with all teammates, because I still do maybe 80% of all damage, if not even more. The team doesn't do that much.

But that's because Shepard is awesome.

I can have any assault rifle on any class.

I don't want to have all the best weapons on me either. Makes it boringly easy.

Adept for me. Which is very shallow of me because I love magic in fantasy-RPG's like Dragon Age. As such, biotic powers are as close as you'll get in ME.

He does have a point (Topic creator). I am sure Bioware has the same type of equipment that shows where most players went, did, didnt do, died, spent the most time at, and etc and etc that most other companies have and use. With that being stated, I am 100% sure that Soldier will be the most played class by far. It isnt even the point where it is the hardest to kill, but in matters of 'best' I would certainly say the Soldier would win that title simply being Soldier makes quick work and will hardly ever run dry on ammo. Beating the game on Insane starting off with no upgrades is quite hard for most players. Having the health and slow time perk defintly helps with limiting the number of times you attempt something and not die. Sentiel for example, only has X amount of weapons and on Insane enemies take a quite a bit of rounds to be put down, even as a soldier I find myself needing ammo overall, meaning I have to use all of my pistol, switch to shotgun burn threw all of that, then go to AR only to find out that all I have left is sniper rounds.

The fact that soldier is the toughest to take down and can use the slow time perk to get out of a situation or poke out of cover and take one person down at a time the soldier also can have other skills like Geth Shield Boost or Barrier which makes him one tough cookie to kill in the field. Although soldier may not be the 'most' fun the topic was refering to BEST. I don't know about you guys but playing as any other class on insane from the start is not fun.... Vanguards end up teleporting right in front of the enemy and then get rocked with a few shots, sentiels armor doesnt really do much compared to geth shield boost or barrier so that can be easily ignored, infiltrator can be pretty annoying since most enemies in the game just rush you, engineer runs out of ammo to damn fast and the combat drone does jack ****, and the adpet also has an ammo issue but the biotics can be quite fun and can easily turn the tide of the battle but then there is the whole ability cooldown where one ability affects all abilities unlike in Mass Effect 1.

So with all of that said, Soldier should defintly be considered the best. I mean, before I commented I read most of the post and all of them are in rage because someone said soldier is considered the best but I mean how many of you actually sat down and thought about it before raging and posting some negative comments to the topic creator.

Wow . . . posters here are  brutal. . . I don't think the OP was meant to offend anyone about his class being the best . . . I think he was just showing his pride for the soldier class . . . it was not to be taken literally. . .
But for me as a player I only play on insanity , I've played all classes finishing up my engineer class now
but I have to say I love playing the soldier class . . .I play him CQC  , right up in the enemies faces.
As far as what was the most easiest class , the sentinel was the easiest , then engineer and adept in that order.
My fav in order:
1. solider
2. vanguard
3. infiltrator
4.engineer
5. sentinel
6.adept
This clearly my on personal view. . .
Everyone has there fav . . . so play nice. . . LOL. . .Posted Image

Soldier is the easiest class to beat the game with... (hide behind cover, slow-mo snipe/headshot, repeat) but if put up against a Vanguard player, I see the soldier losing pretty badly and more often than he wins.

No one clears a room faster than a Vanguard.
