Soldier the best class? Or just too easy to play well for too little effort?

Oh look, this devolved into a my class choice is the best class choice for you thread.

The best class is the one that tickles you the most to play when you are behind your keyboard, relative strengths and statistics are meaningless next to this single concept.

I believe you meant: behind your controller.  CONSOLES FTW!

Platform doesn't matter it is still Mass Effect.  Just finished up a soldier run myself last night while it is fun to have all the weapons at my disposal when I play as a soldier, I miss having tech and biotic powers.  Which is why the new run I am starting now will be with a sentinel, always good to change things up.

Thanks to slow cooldown timers, ME2 was only fun to play as soldier. I'm not gonna mention the utterly useless classes found in the game as well, we all know em by now.

Cooldowns on it's own is necessary to not overpower biotics (spamming warp=infinite ammo).  It's the GLOBAL
cooldowns that are annoying.  Instead of just hitting pull and immediately hitting throw, there's that annoying GLOBAL that slows down the gameplay.

Soldiers is point and shoot.  It's a very basic but straightforward class (and my favourite).  Nothing really wrong with the class itself IMO.  Especially since it becomes a whole different game on insanity for soldiers where enemies take a bazillion hits and there's never enough ammo.

But to tetrisblock4x1, you have your opinion and it's as good as anyone's. (although not ALL your facts are right about other classes, such as Infiltrator's sniper slowdown).  I don't understand why people think you're trolling when you're clearly talking about class balancing.  Assuming Bioware reads these comments they'd take it as constructive criticism.  Ignore those haters, unless you actually start trolling.

All classes can wield any weapon. But only the Soldier can equip an entire set of weapons.

Yes all six classes have a role but they're all flexible.

Adepts, engineers and sentinels are all about tech and biotics. However they can go comando wielding assault rifles, or snipe from a distance or use shotguns. Why? This is to give players more options. The player knows that these three classes don't specialise in shooting, but will happily do so as well as using powers.

The vanguards and infiltrators combine powers and shooting, but even they aren't as powerful as the soldier.

What makes the soldier the one man army who can take out any enemy? Adrenaline rush and the best selection of weapons. The soldier doesn't require every power. The soldier is about gunning down the foes. Getting into advantageous postions, choosing the right ammo power, and the right weapon. There is your soldier strategy.

If all else fails, the soldier has concussive shot. Choose this class and you'll be paying less visits to the power wheel and more visits to the weapon wheel as you dominate the battlefield.

Personally I'm no fan of the Soldier class. I loved the biotics and tech powers the other classes had. The soldier class is in pretty much any shoot em up these days and there is a reason for that. The soldier never goes horribly wrong at going comando.

I play as an Engineer and I find it a very cool class. The most resourceful by far.

Engineer with combat drone, AI hacking, and DOMINATE.  No guns required.

I'll just say that Soldier class is what I always play as.  Since Soldiers aren't biotics and don't have tech abilites they need firepower.  It makes since that they can wield all firearms but that doesn't mean it's the "best" class, just balanced.

How does it make sense that one individual can carry more guns than another with the exact same body build? Shouldn't a biotic be able to do everything a soldier can? (lore wise)

Logically it makes sense but as I said  before biotics have their abilities in addition to being able to wield some weapons.  And within the Mass Effect universe soldiers are trained to use all weapons unlike other classes.  Besides, would it be fair that an Adept can wield a wide range of biotic powers and all weapons?  THAT would be unbalanced.

Or to put it differently, allowing people to play biotic characters as biotic marines would require gameplay that is not balanced in a "one size fit all" way.

I hope that ME3 is better balanced with smarter squads.

That's my biggest hope too, but my expectations are very low.  I can't wait for the enemy AI to be "vastly" improved, while my squad remains in the stone ages still.

As per the topic question; yes, Soldiers are by far the easiest class to play in the game on any difficulty.  The Infiltrator is similar, yet still not as good and their only true advantage over a Soldier is the fact that they get Incinerate.  Soldiers can easily headshot enemies with any weapon, get the most useful ammo powers and have the most options when it comes to shooting (which is 80% - 90% of the gameplay despite the fact that there are "classes").

A Widow Soldier > Widow Infiltrator in terms of damage.  The Revenant is a waste of ammo anyway when you have the godly Mattock.

The tiers in this game are something like this (Insanity):

1. Soldier >> Infiltrator
2. Sentinel <> Vanguard (unless your goal is spawn point rushing)
3. Engineer
4. Adept

This has nothing to do with "fun factor", and everything to do with being able to handle any situation with relative ease.  My favorite classes are the Infiltrator and Vanguard, although the Vanguard is terribly frustrating thanks to the charge bug that happens at least 20% of the time.  The Soldier is pretty boring other than when lining up Widow head shots, but that still doesn't prevent it from being the easiest aka "best" at killing.  Adepts are extremely fun on normal difficulty, but boring as hell as you turn up the difficulty beyond that.  A Sentinel is basically an Adept that doesn't suck, and can go close quarters if they want to play that way OR sit back and spam warp all day.  So they don't have a situationally "ok" class ability called Singularity; so what.  Tech Armor is much better overall.

In terms of killing speed (not spawn point rushing) I'd rank em as;

Assault Sentinel and Mattock Soldier are god-mode. Vanguard/Infiltrator are next tier and Adept/Engineer are at the bottom(they don't suck though).

I'm gonna still say that a well played Vanguard is still the best class in the game, the Soldier is just the easiest.

Really, the enemy AI is dumb enough there's no need for teir lists in this game when it can all be played as "Sit behind box, pull trigger, move on when they're all dead." It's rare that you actually need to advance into the enemy, or cover your flanks against a charging enemy.

I can't live without assault rifles, an companions AI is so awful that I can't endure watching them just failing forever when it comes to shooting.

Soldier micromanaging companion powers is the way I enjoy it most.
