Props to whomever can guess which fictional space (and time) traveling characters I named them off of. But yeah, I wanted one shep of each background and alignment along with the diverse specializations. Amelia is my main shep though, love vanguards!
I have a maleshep Marcus, who is an Infiltrator, but I never play it. Don't think I even got off the Lazarus base.

Janette "Jane" Shepard - My main. Soldier. Pure Paragon. Earthborn. Sole survivor. Kaidan is her one true love throughout ME1 - ME3.
Hayden - Vanguard. Pure Paragon. Colonist. War hero. Is Liara's knight in shining armor and is loyal to her through and through.
Elene - Engineer. Paragade. Earthborn. Sole survivor. Romanced Kaidan in ME1, moved on to Jacob in ME2 and will likely stay faithful to him, as he provided stability during a time when she was feeling insecure. Had a bit of a racist/xenophobic streak in ME1, she didn't trust aliens. But seeing Saren commit suicide at the climax of ME1 had a great impact on her, she viewed it as an act of bravery, and thus her views changed. For this reason she is not entirely trusting of Cerberus in ME2, although still somewhat pro-humanity. She is a troubled heroine, who, behind her brave exterior lies a woman insecure in her own identity.
Marie - Sentinel. Pure Paragon. Spacer. War hero. No LI in ME1, was drawn to Thane in ME2. They enjoyed complex philosophical discussions with each other during their spare time. For a long time Marie has felt isolated. Although she is close to her Normandy brethren, she never really felt as if she had anyone who truly understood her. Before Thane came into her life, she spent most of her time with Liara and Doctor Chakwas. Mainly because she loved knowledge (she is a bit of a bookworm, although she keeps this a secret to all but Thane), but also because a part of her was always interested in medical practices (Chakwas assigns her little "tests" to do in her spare time, most of it is reading through books and answering questions on paper). When Thane came along, she found that everything about him (from personality to appearance) appealed to her, although it took them some time to consummate their love, there was always a subconscious attraction between them. In short, they fatt eac other like gloves. Unfortunately, their relationship is ill-fated. Thane is dying, and although Marie had been researching ways to cure him, she knew deep down that there was nothing she could do. The man she loved would continue to slowly slip away, unless some sort of medical breakthrough were to come about. She tries not to think about it too much though, as she knows doing so will only bring her grief. In a sense, she is a tragic heroine. One might say she is the "Juliet" to Thane's "Romeo". But on the other hand, she is an inspirational leader and a very open-minded person.

Candice "Candi" Shepard - Wild girl renegade with red hair. Adept. Spacer. Ruthless. Is a free spirit who loves to have fun. Is apathetic towards Cerberus. And despite her tendency to be naughty she has a strong sense of loyalty. She was hurt by her comrades deaths during the suicide mission. Specifically Jack, who she felt quite close to. Created in ME2. Started a relationship with Garrus, initially because she thought he was the coolest kid on the block, and pretty much though "Hey, why the hell not?". But that relationship has since developed into something deeper. There is now no one she trusts more than him. And she would give up her life for him.
Lance - Renegade jerk. Is ruthless but efficient. Makes the hard decisions that others don't have the guts to. He is also a playboy and enjoys the female form VERY much. An infiltrator who derives massive pleasure from head-shotting people with Snipers. Ruthless bastard. Romanced Ash in ME1, then moved on to Miranda in ME2. Despite his flirtatious nature, both of his relationships with Ash and Miri were surprisingly deep. He is very defensive of them (especially Miri) but also treats them as equals. He tends to have pro-human views (harsher than that of Elene's) but is willing to work with aliens so long as they help him accomplish his goals. Has a begrudging respect for Garrus and Wrex, and would consider them the closest thing he has to alien friends.
Davis - Paragon vanguard who is extremely loyal to Tali. Colonist and war hero. Brunette. Unfortunately, he is the least attractive of my Shep's (his face was a bit of a rush job), but that may change if I am allowed to edit him in ME3. Created in ME2.
Markus - The lord of Renegade. Is extremely ruthless, and will occasionally do cruel things just for sh*ts and giggles. Ruthless and war hero. Vanguard who believes all biotics are superior. Is not xenophobic or pro-humanity, but believes every species has it's fair share of idiots. Dislikes rules and restrictions (which is why becoming a spectre was a godsend for him, despite meaning that he would work for the Council, who he wanted to murder). Basks in the glory of the Terminus systems. There are very few people he likes or respects, but among them are Aria, Wrex and Morinth. Is scheduled to die in ME2.
New girl whose name will most likely start with "L" - To be created in ME3. Adept. Paragon with a streak of renegade. Will romance James.

I have way too many Shepards planned... over 20 and more to come, at least one for every background and class, but I haven't played most of them yet.
I'll just list my MainShep and the one I'm going to replay next.
Kim Shepard - main, FemShep, Colonist/War Hero, Sentinel, LI: None
Joseph Shepard - my first Shepard, MaleShep, Earthborn/Sole Survivor, LI: Tali (if I can ever get the poor guy through ME1 without being ninjamanced)

I only have two Shepards although I've played them with different classes and slight changes in background/romances. Although appearance and alignment they're pretty much the same. I got a third Shepard, Jezebel, which is kind of a fun character.

Kendra: Renegon Vanguard - Earthborn/Ruthless, faithful to Kaidan romance

I have 3 finished, 1 on going, and 2 more planned.
Andrew/ Male/ Soldier/ Paragon/ Earthborn/ Sole Survivor/ LI Liara ME1/ Miranda ME2
Nikita/ Female/ Vanguard/ Renegade/ Colonist/ Ruthless/ LI Liara straight through
Athena/ Female/ Sentinel/ Paragon/ Spacer/ War Hero/ LI Kaiden (Dead)/ ME2 Garrus

Perseus/ Male/ Adept/ Renegade/ Spacer/ Ruthless/ LI ME1 Ashley/ ME2 Unsure whether to go with Tali or Jack
(Perseus is a concept file where I am picking every renegade option, unless it refuses a mission.)
Plan to have an Infiltrator and an Engineer, both female. One I plan a Kaiden ME1 romance, another being with a clean slate ( plan a Femshep/Ashley romance with one of them.)
Unsure what to do with the final three files romance wise, when I think of how I want to start ME3. More to do with can I get a conclusion in ME3 with non permenant squadies. But I do want them played b4 ME3 comes out.
