In general I tend to find the alien squadmates more interesting than the humans, and in all my playthroughs I only ever end up romancing the aliens. Not all the humans are boring though.

I also have to say I'm impressed that this thread hasn't degenerated into a "Your favourite squadmate is the most boring" flame war so far. When I saw the thread title, I feared for the worst at what I would find.

We are mature adults here who can agree to disagree and respect opinions that differ from our own.

That said, my favorite is better than yours! :P

Nope, only Jacob and I find Thane infinitely more boring than he is anyway.

MJ = Michael Jackson. Sometimes used by guys who dislike Miranda or her appearance.

I actually find the human characters more interesting than the aliens. I think the aliens are guilty of the tropes and few of them are truly anything unique that they are made out to be. Humans in costumes, and it let's them get away with less personality.

I still don't see a resemblance.

All the human males are boring. Not the females. Miranda, Ashley, Jack, and Kasumi are pretty fantastic (especially Kasumi).

I personally find it interesting to see how human the aliens actually are (in character and personality). I don't wanna say it's a good thing or a bad thing, just an interesting thing.

I think every single alien character in Mass Effect could also be a human. None of their personalities is so vastly different than our human personalities that they couldn't be human.

Liara for example:

Simply change Liara's skin-color and give her hair and she could perfectly blend in with the rest of us humans. She would be a normal human. Nothing of her character and personality contradicts our human characteristics and nature.

It's all about keeping an open mind. Not to say this is fact, but a possible reason people are predisposed to dislike human characters in ME is because of just that. They're human. Every game has humans in it. The aliens are new, refreshing, and, to some, easier to be open-minded about. This is where the "Ashley is racist, KaidAn is gay, Jacob is boring, Miranda is a ****" comes from. As players have actually had experience with humans before, it's easier to let their predispositions shape their views of the characters. Since Garrus/Tali/Liara/etc. are new, foreign, and not at all human, our views are harder to fit them into, so players can be more accepting of their flaws or features.

This is, of course, just a theory I came up with in thirty seconds, so feel free to tear it apart.

Yep. That Shepard, what a boring guy. It'd better to kill him off for good.

That's the smartest thing I've heard in a long time.

Kaidan died on Virmire. Never liked him.

As much as I don't like Ashley, she's a very complex character. But she's alive only because she's a woman. What kind of guy can leave woman to die?

Jacob is boring.

Miranda is not bad.

Zaeed is a badass with interesting story.

Jack is very interesting and has few layers in her personality.

Kasumi is awesome. Period.

It's probably the fact that we're all (most of us, lol) human. We've probably seen most of these personalities from RL experience, which contribute to our mindset towards a particular group. Now we have different species, which could also have similar experiences mind you, but the fact that they're different in many ways, not just looks, could spark interest towards them, even though they might have the same personality or vibe as "x" character. To me at least, I've judged the ME characters through their actions and how they present themselves, if I find them to be boring, it's not because of being human or alien, it's their presentation of themselves.

My favourite characters are a mixed from Jack, Legion and Wrex and I don't find any character to be boring (it's really hard to be boring, IMO).

I heard rumours that Miranda's ME3 DLC will be called "This is it".

Its supposed to symbolize her final attempts to make a clean break from her father.

I think...

Depends, you can do alot with human characters but in the end we have seen most of the archetypes there is, im really hoping they dont add anymore human characters through dlc and such. A new Alien character in general is more intresting.

This is also what I try to do.

I found the male human squadmates boring. Kasumi, Jack and Miranda are memorable and unique characters, in my opinion.

I constantly wonder if I may may a choice where I'll have to have a Wrexican stand off with Ash in ME3. This prospect makes her interesting to me.

I LOVE Kasumi. Nuff said.

Miranda... Gmagnum has the right idea.

Jacob is cool, and kind of reminds me of myself. In that I don't complain about my personal issues.

Zaeed is pretty cool, I let him have his revenge a couple of times because in the long run those civilians can't take over the Blue Suns and add to my army for ME3(hopefully Zaeed can).

Kaidan's alright, I suppose.

Am I missing anybody?

Actually, Kaidan, Ashley, Miranda, and Kasumi are my top four favorites (in that order). I never really got to know Jacob's character (Couldn't stand FemShep's tone of voice when talking to him), and I dislike Jack and Zaeed's personalities.
