Of course, all characters are boring compared to Mordin, but there's not much to be done about that.
anyone else think the human characters are the most boring?

Alien characters like Liara are the most boring(she admits it too!).

DA: O was a bit more Balanced. The most interesting characters Were Morrigan, Leliana and Sten. There's only 2, in some cases 3 other non humans on the team, and I couldn't say I cared more for them or Allistair and Wynne.

Personally I find Joker, Ashley, Jack, Kasumi, Zaeed, Mordin, Legion, Garrus, Wrex and Samara to all be very interesting. Morinth too, though I dislike her.
A blend of human and alien, with an AI thrown in for flavouring.

I think its the exact opposite. Yes ME2 had a few interesting aliens like Mordin, Thane, Samara and Legion, but the human members were just more interesting. In ME1, interesting crewmembers fell to Ashley and Wrex. Garrus was sort of the lost boy in search of a surrogate father, Tali was about as interesting as furniture, and Kaidan was unfortunately uninspiring.

Hey, hey now.
Furniture can be very interesting.

Then again, Tali isn't a male, so that link may or may not apply.

No, as the human characters in general tend to be more balanced and nuanced than the alien characters, for whom the double standard "Well, they're aliens so it's normal." is too often used as a convenient excuse for their simplified behaviour.

I think it depends on the individual character personality, and what people personally prefer.

Kaiden
Poor Kaiden has the diservice of having one of the more support based classes in ME1 and being essential the straight man of the group. IE Kaidan always gives the more level headed and thought out response, and even when you team mates are acting like bloodthristy pyschoes. Honestly Kaidan would have benefited greatly from ME2's combat reboot.
I think also it might be little bit of revenge for Carth is why Kaiden seems to be the one left on Vimire the most
Ashley: I'm not particularly fond of Ashley and her alien issues, and she's pretty much subing for Wrex in the let's just kill them options. but as one board told me, you leave Kaidan to die and save the Girl. I mean i think some parts of her history are neat and she's effectively the Renegade to Kaidan's Paragon. I'm just not that attached to her maybe its the idea that she's the violent but really sensitive one that irks me. She'll quote something about the complexity of life and then five minutes later being demanding somethings blood.
Hell when it came down to it, I picked on of the stable l2 Biotics over the run of the mil soldier... Sorry, Humanity needs as many powerful biotics we can get!.
oddly enough
Miranda being a straight up ***** from the get go and just running with it worked more for me, they trying to give Ashley a deep insightful mind but juxatposed with her bigotry and bloodlust.
Granted... as far as Biotics go Kaidan > Miranda cause miranda couldn't even do the one thing she's good at!
Jacob's honest and aside his father issues serves very much Kaidan's role of Paragon to Miranda's Renegade, which is funny since Miranda is the Paragon to Jack's Renegade
Jack is an interesting nutcase... but you've seen it before sadly
Zaeed is the man consumed by revenge
and Kasumi is the optimistic one... and frankly the most needed to liven up the ME2 crew since even Tali has baggage now.
