I'm surprised that people complain about a bit of profanity in a game where you continually shoot people in the head. It's truly baffling.

Not only that, but you can have sex with them.

(Not the people you shoot in the head, that's just gross)

If you could, BSN would explode.

Just wanted to post up that, personally, I think it would break immersion if everyone stopped swearing (at least for me).  Served 9 years in the U.S. Army Infantry...had a Captain above me that NEVER swore...then we started getting shot at and...well the first time I heard him swear I remember his exact sentence, "break break break, get the f*** off the radio!"

When we came back from Iraq, he stopped, but with bullets flying the safeguards were gone.  I imagine sentient machines attacking you would be a little more stressful than just another guy with a gun.

Also, I know a few smarter guys who swear for the fun it...and a couple more who swear because they know it bothers people.

On the other hand, I guess I could see it if they put in some kind of control, but that's really pushing it...it has, since the first game,  been M rated, no?  If Joker had limped through the Normandy saying something other than he did, I doubt the experience would have been as great as it was....it was good writing insofar as that it heavily illustrated his fear of the situation.

As a writer, I can see the "value" in profanity. It has force, force that normal words don't tend to have. For instance, if something went horribly, wildly, chaotically wrong, You could say, "it went horribly, wildly, chaotically wrong" or you could say, "It was an absolute clusterf*ck." However, a lot of times people DO curse simply because they think it's "cool" or makes them look tough.

I can understand Jack cussing, for instance. It fits with her character. However, "Don't f*ck with Aria" was wildly out of place, and was clearly done because they felt it would impress on the player how "tough" Aria/Omega was/were.

So if it fits, if it really fits, I don't have a problem with it. But if it's clearly an attempt by BW writers to make the character sound cool or bad@ss, then I think it's a bad idea.

I never use profanity, and I have had guns shoot at me and have had people attack me with knives, I just do not see that point. Also its is not a smart person but a weak mind trying to sound stroung or frocefull.Profanity in a game, movie, book, song, or real life it is real not needed. also I'm in my mid 30's.

Use of profanity has nothing to do with intelligence or being "weak". That's just some self-serving nonsense you've made up that has no grounding in how or why people actually use the language they do.

I can agree with this.  I remember a trailer? or something to that effect of Carrie Anne Moss doing Aria's VO and the particular sentence they featured was the "don't f*** with Aria" sentence.  Made her seem less bad-ass because they had put such an ephasis on it...swearing when stressed out or because you want to get a point across I can get, but I tend to think that that was more "I'm swearing right now and I don't care what you think, but you should think I'm cool."
It sounded like something I heard on the playground when I was 7.

I'm glad you added that in, it gives your statement weight...[/sarcasm]

Not needed isn't the same as:  it happens.  When you're thinking about living versus dying, you're not focusing on watching your language.  Plus, it's entertaining to hear, as more than one person in this thread has pointed out.

To be fair, you confuse ages and species in your last two.  And what if the volus avatar you had last was female?  We would never know.  Image IPB

I had a conversation with Dean about this once. He is actually a "they", apparently.

Weak mind? Dude, not only is that gratuitously insulting, it's also obviously stupid and wrong.

Come to think of it, what is ":weak mind " even supposed to mean? I doubt it's supposed to mean stupid, precisely. That would be.... really stupid, since there's no corellation between intelligence and use of profanity, obviously.

Edit: Elhanan, you sure you want to be associated with guys like this?

Heh, he indeed kept referring to "we" in a personal conversation I had with Dean.

Either he's a group of people or he's just schizophrenic. :P

Well, for all interested, I have just killed Pinwheel and have at last proceeded into the Tomb of the Giants. Nito of the First Dead's days are numbered . Let us see if his miasma can stand against my Winged Spear!
