Well I hope that the appearance of charakters is based on the choices you make in the previous games, like if you choose to kill Wyne (even if she appeard in Asunder:S) that she won't reappear in DA3.

A lot of them, this is, after all BioWare games wich means it is populated by memorable characters that we grow attached to and would like to see again: Aveline, Adal Helmi, Sten, Varric, Tallis, Sigrun, Wyne, ...

In the interest of keeping this meaningful, instead of just listing all I wish to see again, I'll say that the character I want the most to see evolve and know what has happened to her is Ser Cauthrien, Loghain's lieutenant.

Not in all of them. And that is part of the point, a character you can kill or forgive, seeing what difference does it make for Ferelden if she lives.

edit: and also considering all diferent things that may have happened to the person she admires the most.

@Am1... I tend not to kill her, but I think it wouldn't matter as unless Loghain is alive and Anora is sole quenn she has properly been stripped from her rank, and if Loghain is alive he is a much more major character.

She is a smart woman, I'm sure she could get somewhere if she has lost her rank, she started as a peasant if I remember correctly, if not as Loghain's lieutenant there is a number of ways she can be influencial, even more than Loghain himself with the right conditions.

I second this!!  Fenris is by far one of my favourite characters ever.

I'd really like to see DA take a page out of Mass Effect's 'playbook' and maybe keep a 'hero' and associated companions through a complete story arc. Getting no closure for the Warden and then possibly for Hawke really kinda bites. I'm looking forward to having that with Shepard's story.

With that said, even if we go with a new PC, I'd like to see Varric return for certain. He's nicely plot-armored and just that awesome. If non-contrived ways could be developed to include them, I'd also like to see Isy and Bann Teagan (of all people). His courage makes him a very interesting character.

As far as LIs go- I'm game for them showing up as long as any cameos or follow-ups are thoroughly tested (*coughZevrancough*). If, for example, a Fenris cameo was bugged like that, or just hacked in, I'd rather just not see it. *ducks the rotten tomatoes from her fellow FenFans*

2 different questions in the thread title and OP-which do you want to return and which playable characters to return-I'll go with the 1st question.

I do not think any of the playable chraraters will be in the party again, however, I do think that there are going to be people talking about Anders but not see him, Hawke and the Warden. I do think that Alistair will be somewhere in the game again, espically if he is the King of Ferelden. I think Fanriel will be in the game somewhere, but I am not sure where, and possibly Cullen. I think Cassandra will make an apearance and I do not think we are entirely done with the Qunari yet, although it is possible that the Arishock is dead. Maybe they will appoint a new one. I am amost certain that the Divine will be in the story somewhere and even the Empress or Orleis with there being a civil war there and all. I want to see what happend to Karan after Meridith dies and Alain. I can see Karan helping protect the mages like Thrask and Evengeline. I would like to know what happens to Varric after the events of two and before he was interrogated by Cassandra.

I agree with dsl08002, I hoping to see the warden again in dragon age 3.

Leliana got to be part of the story line, she's just to important for the series to be left out, but I'd kill Morrigan, again and again until that.. woman is rightfully gone from the product itself. She just can't be in the DA3.

Most previous characters would make less, or no, sense. The Solution is new characters and cameo of previous characters

I would pick Anders; however, I would change his character back to more of DA: Awakening. I would include a story where you have to help seperate him and Justice or merge completely the two. If you completely merge the two, then Anders becomes far less winy and more of a butt-kicken warrior mage. More important he likes women only and not guys. If you seperate the two then he could go either way and you could say that is because he has an emptiness inside that needs to be filled.

I would then pick Tallis. With her though, I would treat her alot like Zevaran with the exception of straight love interest this time around and leaving the door open to even have her sacrafice herself to save the hero (possible story option).

Finally, I would pick Sten. I would intertwine him and Tallis' story somehow. Sten would have matured and be more of an old' school butt kicken Quanri while Tallis is New Age butt kicken. He would def be more of a mentor as having worked with the previous Warden.

I really have no interest in seeing Shale, Leliana, Wynne, Nathaniel or any Hawke sibling again.
However, I'd love to see:
Zevran (He was comic relief, I felt DA2 missed that sometimes)
Morrigan (She represents everything in Thedas and Dragon Age. Someone who struggles between good and bad)
Alistair (He's just classic)
Fenris (Interesting character)
Anders (Reformed, maybe he was cured of Justice and he's a new person)
Mabari Dog (I'd love to see my dog back. Mine was called Cinnamon.)
Feynrial (I thought his name came up quite a lot and his "dreamer" quality was interesting)
Feneral (The temporary companion in Dalish Origins)

I want to see more of Flemeth and an Oghren cameo too!
