I could see a role for Varric easily enough. Not, I would say, necessarily as a player character.

What I'd really like to see, now that Ferelden and Kirkwall have been sorted out, is a story sometime in the future, somewhere else. Characters who return in one form or another could be, say, twenty or thirty years older, Oghren as the grizzled Warden-Commander of Amaranthine (with a little more work on the facial hair, at least), Isabella as the matronly pirate queen of some forebidding island fortress, and, I think, no sign of the Warden or Hawke but Vigilance and the Mantle of the Champion.

And a Grey Warden hero again, please.

Hmm... if I remember correctly, the Warden and Hawke are both missing at the start of Dragon Age II - Varric did say something like that, right? It's been a while since I played the game after all, so I could be forgetting it. It would be cool if we could import our Warden from DAO and Hawke from DAII into DA3 - not as playable characters, but if they're missing, they could be found in DA3. It would be interesting to see how they would look like with new graphics and all...

However, of the NPCs I'd really like to see Connor, Bodahn, Sandal (I think Sandal is a must, seeing the prophecy he spouted in DAII), Cullen (he would be an interesting LI), Jowan (if he isn't dead), and quite a few others.

For companions, I'd really love it if Fenris (if you didn't romance him as Hawke) could be a LI again. I have a thing for tall, dark and broody men. XD And I also think it would be interesting if DA3 is set twenty or so years after the Blight and the kids of these companions would be the companions in DA3. Like the kids of Aveline/Donnic, Felsi/Oghren, or even Alistair/HN, or Hawke/Fenris,... or any such combination of known couples and LIs that we saw throughout the two games.

Wouldn't that be cool?

Since we're getting a new protagonist we're most likely not going to get old companions from past games. (awakening is an exception since it was just an expansion)I'd like to see Nathaniel howe again but I think one of the people at Bioware said that the chances of him being a companion are very unlikely considering he could of died twice and that would be too much hand waving.
Cassandra and Tallis seem likely right now
I kind of want to see Jowan and maybe a grown up Connor, though that's also unlikely since both of them could of died.
But I guess we never actually saw Jowan get executed to who's to say he didn't escape?
They'd fit into the story nicely since it's around the whole mage/templar conflict
Plus after reading asunder I kind of wan't to see Rhys or Evangeline either as companions or just encounters
and I'm really hoping we'll get to meet Fiona, you know her being Grand Enchanter and all
oh and of course cullen, he's a templar I can think of plenty of ways he could fit into the story

Dragon Age 2 had Anders and Isabela return for more gameplay. Which  characters from Dragon Ages 1 or 2 do you want to play again for Dragon age 3.
I would like to play Fenris again for dragon age 3. The warrior elf is a new interpetation on elves since most elves pre Fenris are either Archers or mages.
Come on guys hop on in.

The problem for me is that I associate the various companions, whether in DAO or DA2, with my PC. I associate Alistair, Oghren, Wynne, etc with my Warden. I associate Fenris, (the new) Anders, Isabela, etc with my Hawke. Seeing them in a new game as anything other than a DA2 Alistair-esque cameo would not please me. Also, with any of the DA2 romance options, any inclusion of them brings the danger of serious retconning. "OMG Fenris/Anders/Merrill/Isabela is supposed to go off into the sunset with Hawke! WTF are they doing in <place> without Hawke!! FU BIOWARE!" and so forth, from enraged fans.

I'm thinking that they're trying to move away from having people use a saved import with 10+ different options as there are too many paths open to potential bugs, as we saw with DAO/DAA > DA2 imports. So, that just leaves the old standby: KISS (keep it simple, stupid), where they just have 1-3 major decisions imported. In a way, I sort of prefer this, as it has the most potential of pleasing the largest block of people, as well as not having a danger of alienating new players.

If we're going to have a new protagonist, I just want all new friends to have fun with.

Having just picked up Dragon Age again before my return as Shepard, I find myself getting really sucked into the Thedas universe again - oh well, proof of a great concept I guess :-)

I agree with a lot of the statements here. Considering we are looking at a brand new PC, I would prefer companions to be all new as well. If I were to pick some, I would prefer them to be someone not playable before, so people like Cassandra and Cullen would be on the top of my list. Regarding playable companions I say feel free to give them cameo roles, but stop there.

What I would like most in DA3 is a "generate save import" functionalitet where I could predetermine the choices made in DAO and DA2. This makes a third game much more playable without having to create way too many save games myself. Though I guess someone will make a mod to DA2, like there is to DAO for this exact purpose (would be nice to be part of the game though).

hmm this is tough since depending on the PT or DLC, some characters I'd like to see could be gone or dead such as Alistair, Shale, Feynriel among others.

So I'll stick with: Cullen, Varric and Sandal (cameo/NPCs)

I would love any cameos from prior companions/LIs so long as they are not bugged. Since we won't get to be our Warden or Hawke, it would be nice to hear an update or mention of them.

I'd want Morrigan and the Warden(if they survived) to be the antagonists of the next game, or at least a lengthy DLC. I think Cullen, Feynriel, and some half-starved yet impossibly strong female beauty would make great companions. I've never liked my mabari, and always named it Hatechu, Pointless, Muffins, or STOPBARKING in all my playthroughs.

I'd like to see Varric, Morrigan, Oghren and Shale cameos
I have a feeling we'll be seeing Cassandra, Alistair (if king) and Leliana maybe not as a companion but at the very least NPCs
And I wan't Cullen as a companion
then my game life will be complete :)

Anders - if he lives after DA2, he is much too relevant to the war mages/templars for not to be seen in at least a cameo!

Morrigan, definitely. If no one else, Morrigan.

Having Zevran back would be fun...it'd be nice to see Alistair, but as a cameo since he could be king or a drunk. If he's a Grey Warden still...hmm. And Shale of course. Nathaniel was cool....

Varric - preferably as a bard/tavern owner we can chat with and hear rather thatn just read the tale of Hawke.

Javaris Tintop - as the ever misdirected boot (armor) merchant.

Flemeth - what would DA be without at least a Cameo by her?

Marras - as a possible companion. A Kosslith rogue would be a cool companion.

I would love to see cameos from any previous characters, provided it makes sense with imported gameplay (much like what they did with DA2). I would really love to see Morrigan again - I'm just curious about what happened to her.

I don't think there's anyone I would want around as a companion, because I think it wouldn't worry with story continuity. Although I honestly would love to have Varric as a companion again or a cameo, because he makes me laugh, and since he wasn't a LI and with the way DA2 ends I think he could easily work as a companion.

I also agree with what many others have said in that I would love to have the Warden and Hawke at least mentioned, since I am curious about where they disappeared to. I'm not sure it would work if they actually popped up though. That would be strange.

Dragon Age Origins

*Sten -- Not the actual Sten we know (unless Sten suddenly becomes his personal name) but rather a Sten who has a similar purpose but in this case more precise.  Sten is to gather information on personages (their skills and vulnerabilities), land contours and defensive vulnerabilties, and social trends that could be used to Qun advantage in Orlais (and if travel goes to Tevinter, he will "have business elsewhere").

* Leliana -- Always thought this girl should die a soft, easy death.  However I do think she should die.  No actual hard feelings towards her, nothing personal, she's just an awful storyteller and stupid as a stone.  I'd like to see her though simply because I adore the voice actress Corinne Kempa.  I suspect Leliana might be a bit of a foil to the main character, an adversary or perhaps the one the main character reports to.

* Bodahn and Sandal -- Probably should work in tandem with Harren and Wade.  Might establish trading outposts and running messengers, maybe a cursory bank even?  Regardless, the two probably work for an Emperor now and would be his representative.  The idea of them managing an Imperial Bank (with runic protection) appeals to me.

* Jowan -- should he survive with his freedom, I'd love to see him as an Imperial Magister.

* Lily -- soft spot for Lily.  hopefully a potential romance for an NPC?  She should also be in Tevinter!

* "Viscount (?) Foreshadow" -- unless he's pissed at me for some reason

* The begging female Blood Mage in the Ferelden Circle Tower -- unless she's slain, she should be of Tevinter now, perhaps part of a strike team to rescue mages from an Orlesian Circle.

* Bella of Redcliffe -- unless she became a ghoul.

* Bevin of Redcliffe -- should he be of adventuring age yet unless he died.

* Arlessa Isolde -- vacationing to Orlais with military information from Ferelden unless she's dead; primarily a diplomat though.

* Mithra -- relaying promises of assistance to an Orlesian elf rebellion coeterie unless the elves were killed.

* Rhyming Child from Haven -- should he have escaped destruction, might depend on if Genitivi wasn't killed; he might arrange for the child's adoption by the Chantry and soon afterwards the Circle of Magi -- where he manages to escape and follow Dagna  who seeks to further her study of magic -- and Darkspawn -- in Orlais and Tevinter.  This presumes Dagna was in the mage tower after the quest An Unlikely Scholar transpires (or doesn't).

* Dagna -- if she manages to end up in the mage tower, she travels to first Orlais to speak with a notable mage who studied at White Spire in Neverra and to search for informations about phylacteries especially those that seem to contain accursed spirits as perhaps being key to links between lyrium, the fade, and arch-demons.  Her suspicion is that spirits can mistake living and enchanted blood for a person and so possess it; should this be so then possessed darkspawn might also think a phylactery of arch-demon blood is an arch-demon.  This could serve as distractions and delay future blights.  Furthermore, she wishes to travel to Tevinter so she might have more solid evidence.  Should the Rhyming Child from Haven and Gevinti have survived, the child will accompany her, having escaped from Ferelden and she will hide his presence capably and with great ingenuity.

* Zerlinda from Dust Town -- If she was directed to the Surface by the Warden -- she might have been useless to anyone in Ferelden as she's a mining caste lady.  This would reduce her to the self-same state she would've been in in Dust Town.  She might be in Orlais as a servant, bossing around elven slaves because she is desperate but is becoming meaner as time passes.

* Erlina -- All along, she was an elven spy for Orlais; both Cailan and Anora knew of this in their turn.  Arl Eamon and of course Arlessa Isolde also were privy to Erlina's presence but perhaps not to her identity.  Ostensibly her job was to ensure safety and secrecy of messages between Ferelden and Orlais.

* Sanga -- Has become so wealthy she opens up another Brothel in Orlais -- which is frequented by spies from both Orlais and Denerim as a place to broker deals so less lives among agents are lost and the "game" isn't quite so lethal -- of course this situation could catch aflame quite swiftly.

* Isabella -- Her interests seem to be edging towards privateering in a political sense although she isn't patriotic and would pick her missions carefully.  She could get herself in a great deal of trouble.  It's probable that she is already in trouble.  If she's not executed by the Qun, she might be embroiled in anti-Qunari activism (and not quite so charming as she had been).

Dragon Age Origins Awakening

*  Herren and Wade -- of course they'd be around, hopefully working for Bodahn in perfecting vaults and protective measures for the Imperial Bank.

*  Anders -- possibly on his way to White Spire to destroy his phylactery (if he wasn't stabbed to death).

*  Sigrun -- should peace be made with the Architect, regardless of her feelings for the peace, there's not enough Darkspawn to fight in the Deep Roads local to Orzammar.  Sigrun would be looking for Darkspawn in Tevinter and so she might indeed find doughty foes.  Or perhaps she'd be in the Abyss... which is an excellent place to find darkspawn or so I've read.

* Private at Vigil's Keep -- she is dutiful and should probably make an appearance along with a Grey Warden envoy -- or in leadership of an envoy -- to the Wardens in Orlais.

* Nida -- wanted to join the Grey Wardens.  The man she's involved with (might be the dead man found on a rope in the Knotwood Hills) was probably innocuous and unaffiliated with any situation of depth.  Nida on the other hand may just join the Wardens and be assigned to marching into Orlais on envoy to ask after the situation in the Abyssal Rift.  They suspect The Architect may be making moves into that area and they wish to investigate.  If the Architect is possessed, the Wardens might need to exercise immediate warfare upon his darkspawn forces.

* Amelia and Matthias -- presuming she survived kitty (or was possessed) she should go somewhere and do something with herself and possibly be accompanied by her father.

* Felix de Grosbois -- I do hope he made it back to Orlais and some measure of safety.  He might be a beggar or member of the Chantry now.

* The Chanter Board Girl from Amaranthine -- She is delicious.

Dragon Age II

Of course Isabella (as previously mentioned)

* Cassandra Pentaghast -- Not fond of her but I'd like to see her appear if only to kick her to death.

* Varric -- I think his inclusion sensible if only as someone to rescue or to assist in his escape from Orlais.

* Tallis -- She's popular enough.  So let's bring her back?  Assign her a role as a proctor and sniper for Qun spies.  If someone gets too close to their "bees wax" (an old Qun term for The Game), Tallis takes out the suspicious person and makes it look like Templar, Mage, or criminal action (for money or spite, say).  Tallis will hide from anyone she's met before if she can manage to or claim that she's coming back from a job in Tevinter and "resting" (which should seem normal to anyone unfamiliar with the way of Qun).

*The Robber -- The one your mabari chased into a closet.

Out of DA:O characters, the ones I'd like to have back in my party are Leliana and Morrigan, provided they're actually present in DA3.

Three of these would be nice:
Morrigan, the dwarf Shale, Varric, Hawke siblings and some new characters. I still like a female warrior, but can't you make her romanceable.
I am willing to let Alistair be alive in Dragon Age 3, if I can get either Merril or Velanna or Sigrun.(Eventhough I let him be executed in most of my playthrough),

I would like to have some characters back:
- Varric: His role is just too interesting, and he's good in combat.
- Morrigan: Well, you know, I want to know more of her and her child (if there's one).
- Bethany: I can't live without Hawke's sister (although I don't want Carver back).
- Alistair: The king must be back if you travel to Ferelden.
- Leliana: Just want to see what's up with her and the chantry people.
- Cassandra: I'm sure she's not done yet.

Varric - oh, gosh, I'd do anything to have him return in DA3. Want him as party member as well, I'm greedy like that. Seriously, no Brian Bloom Varric = no buying DA3 for me. Not sure if I want him as an LI option as he ended up with my Hawke (he's not the only one with a good imagination), but I guess I'd cope.

Alistair, Merill, Isabella - at least cameos, I could live with that. Actually, it would be nice to briefly see everyone from the previous games, even if I didn't like them - because there are always other people who did. And because I'd hate if they got abandoned, just like that.

Mabari - one with even more interaction with other companions and the hero

Hawke - absolutely loved my sarcastic rogue, but I understand it would be too difficult to bring her/him back. Care to re-evaluate the 'new hero' decision for DA3, Bioware?

Bodahn and Sandal - yes, please

Shale or Sigrun would be great to return. Or even Justice, the DA:A one, definitely not Anders' Vengerance.

We may be seeing Shale hanging around with Wynne in DA3, who I am almost certain will be in it.
